I try to be respectful of other people's opinions, but this list seems to have been dominated by voters that are recent transplants to the Austin and San Antonio areas. Enchanted Rock is a very cool place, but by no means a top 3 (or even top 5) hiking destination in Texas. My personal list is: 1. Guadalupe Mountains National Park 2. Big Bend 3. Lost Maples 4. Hill Country State Natural Area 5. Colorado Bend State Park. I'm dying to try Palo Duro Canyon.
hartsickdisciple YES. Finally someone that knows about Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It never makes any list. But, by far it's the best hiking in the state.
Except Big Bend, ER and LM are all day hikes. If you have to choose best day hikes in Texas, those 2 would be anyone's top 5. You can't compare Big Bend NP and GUMO's multiple hike trails with single day hike trails. Big Bend NP and GUMO each has 3-5 trails that are better than Enchanted Rock and Lost Maples. But due to traveling distances, most would go ER or LM.
I know this video is really old, but I'd like to share some of my favorite hiking spots in Texas. Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway - close to where I live, so we visit it often and explore the trails there. There are some trails in the back of the park that are quite challenging. Based on sq footage, it's one of the biggest parks in Texas. There is also a trailway outside of the park that is pretty fun, too. The trailway is pretty flat and straight for the most part, but it's still a fun hike. Lost Maples - great trails and great scenery. Some challenging hills that are a welcome change in Texas. Lone Star Hiking Trail - Honestly, I think it's a shame that this wasn't even mentioned in the video. It's a great place for backcountry backpacking trips. Guadalupe mountains/Guadalupe Peak - This highest peak in Texas is a great hike. Palo Duro Canyon State Park - Some great trails there. Similar terrain and scenery to caprock canyons. Big Bend - some very challenging terrain for backpacking trips and some great spots for day hikers. Colorado Bend State Park - some great trails and beautiful scenery. A couple that I've been to that I'm not that fond of are Enchanted Rock and Garner State Park. Both are WAY too crowded to really be able to enjoy your time there.
My wife and I have traveled a lot of the west in our younger years but now we need to be able to drive. Are there places in Texas where we can see the state parks, land marks from our vehicle? Thank you.
Taking advice from this guy who loves his announcer voice on hiking? With a button-up and long sleeves? Pass! This guy has never hiked any trail it looks like.
@@movward Haha you're right. Never hike in a suit. I remember this dude from when I was a kid it seems like. You're right, I shouldn't hate on him. He's doing his thing. Good for him.
