    Getting the correct exposure is critical, getting it quickly shows professionalism. In this video tutorial I show you how to do just that with the Sekonic Flashmate L-308S lightmeter.

    Very good presentation Joe. I've just bought this and have read the manual (or user instruction). Problem with the manual is that you can tell it's been written by a resource whose first language is not English, and tends to confuse the reader (just a bit).
    Your practical demonstration is very succinct. Horses for courses, as the English say, and I can't quite get a grip on the EV functionality. It hasn't been carefully articulated in the User Manual. Your tutorial has kept the overall end user experience of L-308S very simple. 👍

    G'day Joe & thank you > I have noticed that you are the only bloke / Guy ( On TH-cam ) In Showing how to use the Sekonic L-308s Meter - Who has pointed out the First setting you should do " The CS " setting f/ 1, Stop : 1/2 stop & 1/3 stop : This sure does put the user on the right track ....

    Joe -- good video -- quick Q about Sekonic 308U -- will it test fire the Canon 430EXII speed light with a YN 622 transceiver attached and/or the wireless YN685 flash (with built in trigger/transceiver)

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Sekonic does not actually fire anything unless you plug in a sync cable to it. What it does have that I use is a delay option that you can use that lets you press the button on the light meter, then trigger your flashes a few seconds later and then it will meter everything. So when I am setting everything up I am normally running around with my meter in one hand and the trigger in the other. Hope this helps.

    I just bought the sekonic flashmate l-308x-u, but sometimes it does not read my OCF.. I don’t know if it has to do with the way I’m holding it

  • @FemOdelPhotography
    @FemOdelPhotography 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Joe. I hope you don't mind me pointing out what may be a small (most likely unintended) point in the video.
    If I heard you right, you stated that you can amend the Custom setting (C5) to: 1.0; 0.5; 0.3.
    Furthermore, it appears you've stated this selection will amend TV or ISO selection display (to full stop, a half, or a third).
    Well, I set custom setting to 1.0.
    Then I kept trying to get ISO to display just the full stops (100; 200; 400; 800; 1600; 3200; 6400; 12800; 25600 etc.) but it just kept showing ISO in third stops. Shutter value shows full stop ok but not ISO.
    I've verified this by reviewing the User Guide (page 22):
    Display range = film speed = ISO 3 to 8000 (1/3 step).
    Both TV and AV can be set to 1, 1/2 or 1/3 but ISO will always be 1/3 step.
    Thanks Joe. 👍👍

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure I follow you. But this will not effect your camera.. As far as setting it to exposure stops to 1, it will actually read out in 1/10th stop increments. Hope this helps.

      Hey Maxim, I love the weather here. Never to hot, never cold also.. Great part about living so close to the equator is that its actually cooler then living in Mississippi during July and August.. Pretty much low to mid 80s at night, to high of mid 90's during the day. I had planned to make this video for a few months as part of my Strobist Flash and Lighting Tutorials. Cheers, Joe

    If anyone is have an issue where the meter goes into cine mode, just keep pressing the down button on the right side until the f/s goes away on the screen. If you want to go into cine mode, just hit the up button until f/s appears on the screen.
