I like the lame late 70's -80's disco funk, Japanese style elevator jazz as much as the next guy, but this is a really bad album compared to the rest of BC
Not sure I'd go that far in terms of critiquing this album, but he has done a lot better. Like with Bob James' stuff, I occasionally found myself thinking, "go easy on the syrup guys, you can make things too sweet". That being said, it has it's moment and it's difficult to fault any of the playing, or overall quality of the performances. A five or six out of ten, depending on my cheese tolerance at that time, with some 8.6 moments.
Wrote the first comment about a third of the way through. After that, "Lonely Bull", track we may be going down to 3 or 4 out of ten. Lol. Plus I would have liked it if they expanded on that last track a bit. That had some potential. Instead, it was just a nice synth ostinato, with some drums and efffects. Could have gone to a more proggy soundscape thing there, dissapointed that it didn't.

Mr. Cobham not only is the worlds strongest and serious drummer but his songwriting mind is uniquely expansive.
The performance on this recording makes me want to practice!!
