And let me give you a little bit of a reasoning as to why I ask this question is because you talk a lot about how you would’ve gone onto to continue fighting, but you preserve your brain and so on my traumatic brain injury did not come by way of a car accident or anything of that nature I was born premature. But I still have a passion. For it

@@seanm7539 obviously I am not tony, but if you want my two cents, go for it - I would just avoid stepping into any full-contact rings. 50 or 60% sparring with headgear should be enough to hone your skills with, and most of the time you can train without any risk of injury just by shadow boxing, hitting bags, and calisthenics.

Shadow boxing is an excellent way to get your punching motion fine tuned. Work on the most important punch in boxing, the jab and you can go up tempo for a bit or get into a rhythm routine to train your body respond after exerting too much energy. I heard that James Toney never did road work, just shadow boxing and more importantly, sparring.

Hey tony I have a question I am a 15 year old boxer who strugles to make it to class ive been out for 3 weeks strait mostly beacause of leaving for vacation during spring break and the fact my mom lives 40 minutes away and is asking me to stay at her place more so she cant bring me to class, but also lazyneiss and me skipping class makeing excuses because I dont want to spar during this week, ill go for 2-3 weeks at a time and then take a 1-2 week break usually because of family issues other complications ect. But my lazyness and me not wanting to go to class when I can is starting to add on to that like this week when I had time the whole week to go since im whith my dad but I was to nervous and afraid to spar. I wanted to go on the end of the week during Thursday but I was worried coaches would be upset anyway whith me only comeing to one class at the end of the week so I thought I minus will not go whitch was stupid of me. And like I said me missing class Is mostly do to family issues, us haveing to leave town my mom not being able to bring me because she lives 40 minutes away and she can't come get me a 7:30 when class is over aince I get picked up from school at 3:30 and boxing starts at 5:30 and she has work so she cant just stay in town for 4 hours strait plus almost the hour to get back home, but im worried my missing class has become exesive and my coaches may notice and be upset im not making it to class enough or not takeing training seriously. My plan is to go in on Monday and tell them im sorry and im gonna put my all into training and try to go 3 weeks straight whitch should be manageable since my familys scudule is cleared this month and hit it hard and try to explain to my coaches the compliactions i've had and talk to them about it. And yes ive talked to them about this stuff before but im worreid its becoming alot and there noticeing so im gonna try to show up to class on time these coming weeks and hit it hard but what do you think I should do tony?

I’m 40 and a pretty good street fighter and don’t be at it anymore as I’m out of my 30’s now so I just want to train to be able to correctly defend myself from younger guys that might try to rob or jump me. Being able to fight for more than 5 minutes will win most fights with big brutes. I’m gonna try hard to improve my cardio this summer and might even kick the Mary Jane!!! This day and age with governments starving the poor and working class and the addict’s only on the rise things are most likely gonna be similar to the great depression so we all should be prepared to defend and provide for our families when the world is gone to shit!! Please god I’m wrong but safer than sorry is never a bad thing!!!

I shadowbox only because of footwork and technique, but I cannot imagine my oponent, I dont understand it, its like my mind is spliting in two, I need someone to see and react, If I visualise, my mind is always like “a you to slow” “waaay to slow” “he sliped everything and got you” 🤦🏻‍♂️😭 then it always go in dirrection that I just trying to overtake my own shadow..

Try shadow boxing with a partner in front of you or in front of a mirror and visualise your next opponent. Is he tall short, Southpaw etc. Good luck🥊

Is it true that you cant learn boxing alone at home? I see alot of boxing videos on youtube to do at home and i do them soemtimes to be more fit,but will they help me be able to fight as a begginer? More like a street fight for defence.

TH-cam is a good place to start your journey to get to know the basics and foundation. A boxing gym is a must if you wanted to learn more efficiently, because you are learning from the best coaches, heavy bag and people who are also your sparring partners.

I came to the conclusion yesterday after a long break from any exercise, they made us shadow box and skip for 45 mins to an hour before any sparring, pad work or bag work or conditioning, and its definitely worth doing, ive been doing everything else and its not coming together without the shadow boxing
