I almost tossed it, in fact, I had emailed a metals removal guy to come to pick it up but he never replied so it sat for another few days while I looked for a solution. Finally, it dawned on me that somewhere in YT-land there must be someone who knows of or has done a seat repair and voila! your video popped up on my search. Perfect! Thank you so much. You're helping me save a glider from the recycle depot and I'll be able to sit outside and watch the sunsets again.
So good to see a real clip with all its frustrations like the rope getting tangled. You did a great job. I will use this weave for my chairs. A sit test at the end would have been good. 👍

I tried this on my patio chairs and I'm very pleased with the results! I actually wrapped the rope around both the upper and lower strands of the horizontal rope which have the appearance of old time bed springs. It is very sturdy and will probably last longer than the old seats that rotted in the sun and rain. Thanks for this ideal way to fix patio chairs!

The only thing I would do to make things a bit easier is maybe wrap the rope around a piece of cardboard or wood so that you don’t have to pull the whole lot of rope through on each pull through if that makes sense. Might just help speed the process but other than that I love the video

This would work much batter. Where do you get the roping and how do you judge how much you need for each chair.

Looks very good. How would I know how much yardage I would need for 4 seats and backs of wrought iron chairs that used to have vinyl wicker/rattan, which rotted? I've been looking for years to find out how I could fix them, since they don't have holes in the iron or clips. Do you think I should measure around the seats twice and same for the backs, which don't meet the seats?
On my other video I did a very tight weave with the blue polypropylene rope and that took half of 100 ft. So I would think if you wanted a tight weave with backs too then 100ft could do 1 chair.
@@JustLiving2018 Chair X and Y dimensions, are they 18" ? My chair is 22" x 22", with about 1" diameter tubing. I tried 50 ft (1/4" cord) and got about 6 loops in X.
You could use clothes line, it is a type of plastic and there are many kinds to choose from. I would match size with the tight space. There is flat plastic but you have to order it and it is very expensive. That's why I went with rope.
Isn't there a way of tying the rope up so you can pull it through as a whole instead of fraying it by pulling the whole length through each time? Just wondering. I've never done this.
I stopped at the very back of the chair and tied it underneath so I wouldn't be seen. No special knot just a two knot, regular does fine in this case. The cushion with hid it when you put those on.

She got it from Mendards. Local hardware stores have similar kinds as well.

It is really easy, and very strong. I think I used 1/4 x100 ft., and I cut it in half.

Any suggestions for doing a chair like this that doesn’t have a front horizontal bar?
I would try making a very tight 3 strand and use that as a makeshift bar. Might be tight enough to hold. Worth a try, let me know if it works.

I used polypropylene rope, it dries very quickly and doesn't dry rot.

I worry about that first knot. But the weave is good for rain not settling on the seat.
