It’s country fried steak and although your recipe looks delicious, it was overly complicated. Next time you might want to try coating the meat in flour, salt and pepper then pan fry in half the oil. That’s really all that’s needed. We always add onions to the pan while frying and then add flour for gravy.

Chicken Fried Steak is southern. My Momma was born in NC then they all (the family) moved to Whitmire SC. I ate LOTS of southern food and still eat. I do cook southern food and good northern cooking ❤
Hi Mandy, this dyed in the wool New England girl is loving your channel and southern charm. Every year I decide on a different cookbook in which to make a different recipe from every month. This year I decided to make at least one of your meals a month. I discovered you right around Christmas and already made the Rice, Beans and Kielbasa. Yum. I'm all alone so I'll be halfing your halfs. Anyway I do have a tip for you, I've found the best thing to use for when you want to coat chicken, pork ect. in crumbs is a pie plate. It gives you the surface space of a plate, but with higher sides. I also use it for when I make French toast. And I've heated up Leftovers in the microwave because my dinner dishes are vintage. I hardly ever make pies but keep 2 pie plates in my cabinet. Oh yeah, I take the stems off the spinach too. They go into my bag of veggie scraps in the freezer for making my own veggies broth.
Tip for you if you make home made gravy with chicken fried steak I use the left over seasoned flour to make the gravy. I don't put corn stack my flour coating so not sure how that would affect the gravy. You could mix all the seasons before you put in the corn starch at set some a side
One of my husbands favorites, southern fried steak. I love the pioneer gravy mix. Their sausage gravy is so good. I might add some extra sausage to it just to kick it up, but it's great alone.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes messes no matter how hard I try not to. Just can't help it sometimes. 😀 Mandy, you made me laugh when you said Gracie was being violent with the cheese 🧀
Chicken Fried Steak is one of my all time favorites.. when making the breading, along with the seasonings, I also add about a teaspoon or 2 of lemon pepper. Just adds a touch of added flavor.
Mandy, whenever I bread something I put my breaded meat on my cookie drying rack to let the breading set on the meat before cooking. That way the breading really attaches to the meat so It never falls off. I let it sit on that drying rack for about 5 mins before I cook it. Just an FYI for ya. We love chicken fried steak too.

I love watching you guys you make me smile. and you are yourselves. and Pioneer gravy is the best. only ones I get. Love them all. the bisquit one they have is so good for sausage to put on bisquits.
I keep a box of gloves in my kitchen for breading things. Peel the icky gooey glove off when finished and voila! No mess. I also double dip my chx fry. First like you did in flour mixture then wet mix again THEN in crushed ritz. I freeze them awhile so breading stays on them fry. Oh. Yum. Yes, peppered gravy is next best thing to homemade. I make it in the pan with the drippings and you can’t tell the difference.

Mandy again you have knocked the recipes out of the park. Your side ones looked amazing too!! Btw on your chicken fried steak my mom used to make them that way too another thing she used to do is cut the cube steak in slices and would call them steak fingers.
Pioneer brand gravy products make great gravy for sausage gravy and biscuits. But it is a bit heavy on the pepper, so you can dilute it a bit with milk.
Have you ever tried putting your panko flour mix in a storage bag and shake them like shake n bake less mess and much easier ❤ lot's of love from New Jersey ❤hope your staying warm ❤

When breading chicken I normally use one hand to dip into the wet mixture and the other into the dry mixture. It seems to keep my hand from getting so gummy. Everything you cooked looks amazing! Y'all stay warm in this cold weather :)
I'm from New York. Not sure of the origins, but my guys love chicken fried steak. I never tried the packet of pepper gravy. Might give it a try, though the gravy is simple to make. Sometimes we just don't feel like it, though 🤷♀️
I take cube steak and salt and pepper then flour it then fry it. After it is done I will pour out some of the oil then make the milk gravy. Then I will take the steaks and cut them in bite size pieces and add them to the gravy and serve it with mashed potatoes on the side or put the steak and gravy on the mashed potatoes.
@@susancollins9074 My paternal grandma was from Kentucky in the back woods. She married my grandpa who was from Kentucky originally and they moved to South Central Indiana. We got a little southern accent in our speech.
I learned to pour out all but three tablespoons of the oil, add three tablespoons flour, blend and let cook at least one minute stirring constantly to get rid of the raw flour taste and add milk, cook until it is thick as you like. Salt and pepper to taste.

Mandy the Pioneer Peppered Gravy mix makes excellent sausage gravy for biscuits. I thank you for frying the Chicken Fried Steak. Everything looked delicious. Yes I watched the "sides" video. I need to make the zucchini. Stay warm. Have a great weekend.
Another great edition. Two things to consider. ALWAYS choke up on a knife, so your thumb, first finger, and sometimes second, are on the metal right in front of the handle. MUCH more control. Cutting an onion, or other dense veg. with a finger on top of the blade is not safe. Also the breading. Wet, and dry method. You were using your left hand to pick up the tenders from the drench, place that item on the plate with the dredge. The other hand only handles whatever is already in the dry coating mix, and to place it, in an air-fryer basket, on a pan, or holding tray, etc. Always glad to see the notification pop up for a new vid.
I’ve put the cheeseburger filling you made on Hawaiian Rolls and the only difference is layer on cheese, filling then sprinkle cheese. I have added a tablespoon of Dukes to my mixture too. So good! Highly recommend the sliders.
I make that gravy and add some cooked sausage for biscuits and gravy. Quick and easy for breakfast. Chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are a Midwest thing also.
My husband loves chicken fried steak. However, I've never made it. I have done fried steak with mushrooms and it's yummy. I have used that gravy mix several times for other recipes. Everything looks great! 😋❤️
Hi Mandy. I love chicken fried steak but I hate to fry things. I’ve bought the frozen ones from Sam’s and they’re good. That Pioneer pepper gravy is really good! I love it when you sing. Only you would think of turning a Kool and the Gang song into a little kitchen jingle 😂🤣 Thanks for sharing as always.🤗💕
I had to come here and comment once i saw the pioneer gravy. Thats the one my family likes. I learned to make it from scratch but its just easier to make it from a packet sometimes.
Love your recipes! I have always tried many different recipes from many countries, but at my age now, I love that a lot of your meals are not that time-consuming. Also want to tell you that I ordered the vegetable chopper and cheese grinder. I have always hated grating and chopping vegetables, and with my arthritis these two things have been a lifesaver.
Thanks Mandy for the great recipes. I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak as I have never had it before. I agree homemade gravy is the best, but when I need a substitute, I use the Heinz Gravy in a jar. The closest to homemade I have ever tried. Have a great weekend,
I wanted to make the slow cooker beef roast you made the other day and the only way I could get the spicy Ranch mix was to buy a jar of it. Now I'm trying to think of ways to use up that large quantity of mix. When you make the chicken tenders, what about putting the Ranch mix into the bowl with the buttermilk and chicken and letting it all marinate for a while? I think the spicy variety would be good in that recipe. Thanks for more delish sounding recipes.
I just wanted to thank you so much for doing the cubed steak recipe. I hated that as a child and once I got older I have been trying to marinate my meat and also trying to use different types of seasoning in my food. I'm making my cubed steak recipe tomorrow with a few substitutions and I hope it works out.

Then I will take the steaks and cut them in bite size pieces and add them to the gravy and serve it with mashed potatoes on the side or put the steak and gravy on the mashed potatoes.
That is a true Southern dish.
I always get a big smile on my face when I get a new video notification from you. You and Steven always brighten my day.
Hey hey Alma, hope you are staying warm & snuggly. Still praying for u all that God will answer every prayer request! Hope u have peace with the big decision u needed to make. Sending u love & hugs, 🙋♀️🐾☃️💨❄️🏠💕💕💕
@@sandybowman7140 thank you, sweet friend. We appreciate all the prayers. Tony fell today and hurt his knee. Sending love and hugs back to you.
@@MrsAlmaTrumble Oh no! I hope he doesn't have a break! I fell last nite trying to maneuver some slick snow, and did an old lady kind of splits ... just sat there and laughed at how goofy I must have looked. 🤭 Thankfully it was slow motion and nothing was bruised or broken. Then I noticed my dome light on in the car and thanked God for stopping me so I could turn it off.
I'll be praying his leg gets back to normal quick. Alternating cold packs & heat packs sometimes can help(?). Bless his dear heart & u too Alma, wish I could bring u all a big pot of Potato Soup! 💕❤️🥰
@@sandybowman7140 not broken just bruised. Thank God. I'm sorry you fell. Potato soup sounds delicious. We're having tacos tonight. I needed an easy dinner after a long morning of grocery shopping.
@@MrsAlmaTrumble Oh that sounds yummy too, bc I look for any reason to use Avacadoes in food - they're known to be anti-inflammatory. I have some Tostadoes that need eating up so maybe this weekend! Power of suggestion! Glad Tony doesn't have a break, but bruises aren't any fun either, so I'll be praying his body recovers well! Have a great weekend sweet friends, love u like a Sister! 💕💕🥰
Yes I believe chicken fried steak is definitely southern since I’m in Jersey and you don’t see it too much here looks delicious!
I use a pie plate when I coat chicken.
One of your northern friends here. I believe chicken fried steak is a southern thing. I can never even find cube steaks in any of my grocery stores.
I’m in Ohio and we have cube steak in our grocery stores. They also sell frozen chicken fried steaks at Walmart.
@@melindablunk613 Yes, I have seen the frozen ones.
Find them readily in MN
Mandy the Pioneer Peppered Gravy mix makes excellent sausage gravy for biscuits. I thank you for frying the Chicken Fried Steak. Everything looked delicious. Yes I watched the "sides" video. I need to make the zucchini. Stay warm. Have a great weekend.
Yum! Can't wait to try these. I'm sending them to my son, also, because they're right up his alley. Thanks for sharing, Mandy! ❤
Good afternoon Mandy and Steven and thank you for sharing your yummy meals
Only you would think of turning a Kool and the Gang song into a little kitchen jingle 😂🤣
Thanks for sharing as always.🤗💕
I had to come here and comment once i saw the pioneer gravy. Thats the one my family likes. I learned to make it from scratch but its just easier to make it from a packet sometimes.
Love watching both of you cook. You two are so cute in the kitchen 🥰
These are always so fun to watch. Thanks for sharing some great recipes!
I use pioneer country gravy mix all the time! It's very good!!
Chicken fried anything is definitely a Southern thing. I’m a Northerner and I love it!
Thanks Mandy for the great recipes. I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak as I have never had it before. I agree homemade gravy is the best, but when I need a substitute, I use the Heinz Gravy in a jar. The closest to homemade I have ever tried. Have a great weekend,
I've been looking forward to this all day🙂
Thanks Lisa!
@@MandyintheMakingyou're quite welcome!
I wanted to make the slow cooker beef roast you made the other day and the only way I could get the spicy Ranch mix was to buy a jar of it. Now I'm trying to think of ways to use up that large quantity of mix. When you make the chicken tenders, what about putting the Ranch mix into the bowl with the buttermilk and chicken and letting it all
marinate for a while? I think the spicy variety would be good in that recipe. Thanks for more delish sounding recipes.
I just wanted to thank you so much for doing the cubed steak recipe. I hated that as a child and once I got older I have been trying to marinate my meat and also trying to use different types of seasoning in my food. I'm making my cubed steak recipe tomorrow with a few substitutions and I hope it works out.
Mandy, I have been craving Chicken Fried steak.I haven’t made it for years but after seeing how good that yours looked, I’m making it soon. Thanks for the recipe.
You are so welcome!
Hi, I love watching your videos and you and your family! I live in Vermont, and I make chicken fried steak for my family. Also, my mom made it for us when I was a kid.
Thank you so much for frying the chicken fried steak! I’m all about doing things as healthy as we can but some things just have to be done the right way!
I treasure your southern fried steak recipe. Thank you.
Love you guys and your videos. I am born and raised here in California but, my great grandmother was from Arkansas and she taught me how to make this dish, so maybe it is a very southern thing that I still make often. ❤
Yes chicken fried steak is definitely a southern dish. Love your accent too Mandy.
You cook like I do. You can see it on my clothes before you see it on the table .❤
Momma always used pork cube steaks to make this. She was born and lived in Michigan until she was 57. Her mom , dad and grandparents all were born and raised in Michigan. Not sure where our “southern” came from! lol!
Thank you for mentioning Saban in a nice light. It's been rough here. Now couches and many players gone to the portal. Scary!, We will see how it goes. The meals looked good. The storms and frigate weather is really hurting us in Alabama. You all stay safe and keep warm.
Love all of your videos! Lamest Texas claims to be the birthplace of the Chicken Fried Steak.
I was born and raised in Georgia and my mom would cook this all the time. Loved it then and still love it and make it today ❤
That sweet kitty is so adorable and I love you and your husband so much
I love that you are such a real person. Problems and all😊.
I am making the Chicken fried steak, oh yum
I’ve done some rearranging in my pantry/laundry room in order to use my AF. I’m excited for these videos ☺️
I use the pioneer gravy packet in my potato soup
