The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. In 1958, a concept car was introduced called "la Galaxie" which incorporated the headlights into pods inline with the grille and a reduced front profile.[2]
For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[3] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[4]: 401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.[5] and the Plymouth Belvedere.
The 1969 model was built on a new platform with a 121-inch (3,100 mm) wheelbase. It was the end for the 427 and 428 engines, save for only the police package versions which continued to use the 360 hp 428 P Code 'Police Interceptor' as their top motor for 1969-70.[5] Replacing the FE series-based 427 and 428 engines was the new 429 cu in (7.0 L) "ThunderJet" that was introduced in the 1968 Ford Thunderbird; it was part of the new Ford 385 engine series. Power, at 360 hp (270 kW) for the dual-exhaust 4-barrel version, was higher than the 428's 345 hp (257 kW) and lower than the racing-bred 427's final rating of 390 hp (290 kW); there was also a single-exhaust 2-barrel version with 320 hp (240 kW) available. The dashboard was built as a pod around the driver rather than traditionally extending across both sides. The XL and Galaxie 500 Sportsroof had rear sail panels to simulate a fastback roofline.[5] The rear trim panel below the tail lights was used to distinguish the different trim levels. The Country Squire was, perhaps, the pinnacle of design for that wagon with the concealed headlights. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Scalemates has the history of the kit over the years of new/re-boxing, new parts and all that.
I have been binge watching your channel this week and this is one of my favorite builds. I absolutely love all the 1969 cars from Ford. I really enjoyed this video!
Welcome aboard!
I'm 11 years old and watching your video made it so I can do my own decals 😃😃😃😃
Keep having fun!
Just a fyi on those big body Fords what you painted the gas tank is actually the trunk floor. The gas tank is directly behind the axle.
Defiantly gonna have to put that Galaxie on my "To Get" List!!! 👍👍🙂
Same here. Gotta get a few. 😃👍
Everything is good with this kit but the molded in seats. But you made it look great with the Hpiguys touch.
Finally some decent decals 😊
As a Ford guy, that one will be built at some point. Love that green! Galaxies were always a favorite.
Another great build video my friend! I've been watching you for years since getting back into the hobby. You've cost me alot of money! (kits I saw you build that I ended up buying). LOL
Beautiful build going to grab me 1
Gotta get a couple of these! GR8 build Chris.
Many thanx 👍👍
No problem 👍
80's Hot Rod made from the former family (dad's) car. Moms' always drove 4 doors or wagons. Dads' got the sportier car. Anyway, after many trips to the local junk yard and dropping quite a few paychecks at the Parts Store, we have THIS ! !
Thanks for another fun "drive" down Scale Lane with Team hpiguys Workshop (need a logo).
Badass!!!
Cool.
Sharp looking car - I remember these back in the days.
Love this Ford❤ my father had a 68 galaxie.. blue I was 7. Great great work you do I love your demeanor sir and TY
came out good as always i was lookin at my dads old models i got original issue of this kitt.....look like a nice easy kitt too do luv the green
What you have here is two kits mixed into one. Most of the parts are from the 1968 Galaxie kit which had a NASCAR version. That kit had an interior without seats. This kit was the old 1969 Galaxie promo kit which is why you have the interior tub with the seats molded in. They probably had a few incomplete molds laying around and just used everything they had left. Great stuff for the parts box!
I would like to get a couple more of these and use one to kit bash with my 71 thunder bird
That's exactly correct, the original tooling for this kit came from the all new (from the 1966 anyway) 1967 Ford Galaxy kit. In fact, that's the custom grill in an original 67 issue. This tool was then modified into the 1968 annual, which was then turned into this 1969. Those parts were "gated off" the tool for this 1969 release. Very cool build and thank you for the review.
Great build, as usual! I built this one when it was original, so it's really bizarre that there are so many "extra" parts that cannot be used. The seats, the pipes, etc. But hey, more for the parts box!
Sweet kit! Want it bad
It’s nice when a simple build looks so great. Magnificent job as always
Reminds me of the car Bert Reynolds drove in the movie, can't remember the name of movie though.Only his car was brown.Good movie.
White Lightning

AMT 1968 Galaxie Customzing Kit #6128-200
looks like those seats
I've been waiting for this release for some time! Totally dig these big vehicles, especially build as drag racers! As always Chris, great build and presentation!!
My dad had a XL basically the same car turquoise with white stripes black interior and a gold one with tan interior white stripes! Loved them and all the Galaxies! Awesome build!
Killed it again! Definitely gonna have to get my hands on one. AND you get extra parts galore... no brainer 👍
Great job as usual Chris! I really enjoy your channel.
Heh heh ...he said hehh hehh Jungle Jake. Great video Chris, keep em coming and I'll keep watching.
Simple kit but end result looks great! That green really pops with the silver base coat and the decals add to the very simplified interior.
Great build, and great seeing you using the enamels, as well as other paints
Beautiful car and green color. Very cool!👍
It looks like they have included parts form the 1968 XL annual. The 69 kit never had the extra parts like that. The seats and console, the exhaust have always been molded in on the 69 kit.
Super build! Lots of detail! Can't wait to get mine.
That's a nice kit ,with lots of extras for future use. Never seen a Ford Galaxy back in my days looking that nice .
Seeing the separate exhaust I was excited to see it not molded into the chassis….NOT😞
Dang! What a land barge!😂 Looks awesome, Chris. Great color! 👍
It was always nice turning the steering wheel then waiting for the rest of the car to catch up.
Another excellent build and video! Thanks for sharing. Definitely need that in my collection.
Great looking build Chris! Nice blast from the past type kit. Love the overall look, nice color.
This is a great kit. Mighty happy to see it repopped! Well done on choice of color.
That turned out very nice. The options are outstanding. 👍🏻
Love that Tamiya Metallic Green. I've used it on a couple of my Hot Wheels resto/mods. That kit looks awesome.
Classic kit, I have one back from the ertl days, way more parts added in this reissue
Probably parts from that 67 Galaxie that has a more detailed frame perhaps? Extra parts= always good
Very nice looking build of a classic Ford. Definitely a nice re-release by Round 2. This is a very nice looking kit, and builds well. Thanks for sharing.
That turned out sweet
Love the job u did on this Ford great paint job
Absolutely love that color. Great build Chris.
Love this kit! I really like the green color you picked for the body, and it does look badass with the hood scoop
Great story, n nice car thanks
Outstanding work, great looking kit ,and a really smart colour 👌
Great job mate👍
That's another nice built ! Great Job Chris
Very nice, i love the color and decals.👌
Great color choice ! Looks great! Got mine on pre-order for at bit now can't wait . Have a great day !!!
I finally got to make an early comment! Looks like a great kit!
Look's good Chris. going to have to get one for my stach.
I have the original LTD '69, but I have to have a couple of these when they come out!
Sweet kit and another excellent build!
Thank you kindly!
Wow I'm going to get this kit just for the parts!!!!!!
WOW Chris, great job, great video! This color looks amazing on this "soft custom". Would be interesting how it would look over a metallic gold base. 👏👍
Minor thing, the front grille should have a body color-keyed horizonal splitter, as shown on the box. Good build.
I can't explain why there is a tree with bucket seats and a console when the interior tub has seats molded in. As for all the other parts, is it possible they came from a '69 full-size Mercury kit?
Beautiful finish, Chris.
Why do you use s silver pen instead of the chrome Molotov pen for the window trim? Thanks!!
Cost.
Awesome build not a fan personally of green but you slayed this one. thank you also for the instruction tips your the best.
Went out and purchased this one . Hope it comes out as nice as yours! Great work again. Keep up the videos.
Hope you enjoy it!
Heck Chris, you couldn't that rear end either, lots of cool parts,Obviously an old Rehashed kit,COOL
I need to build one.
Its on my list of new kits to get, looks like they mix the 70 ford police car kit in it
Chris, actually this isn't a Galaxie. It's a "Ford XL." Ford separated the XL and LTD series from the Galaxie starting in 1966 (for the LTD) and 1967 (for the XL). However the XL and Galaxie 500 did share this "Sports Hardtop" body style!
Have watched many of your videos, in awe of your brush skills!! Have you done a video on how to remove paint from a body with super clean? I got a little problem with mine and really don't want to do all the sanding. First model I've built in probably 20 years. Hands aren't as steady as they use to be
Nice job!
Small point, your upper body striping should follow the upper contour of the fender so as to not ‘sag’. The lower body stripe should follow the lower body inset a little closer. I did striping for car dealers for a few decades, vividly recall having to replace the graphics on a repainted Galaxie in the mid-‘80s. The owner was a stickler!
You just answered my question above.....thanks
Been waiting for them to re-release this model. The last issue from almost 20 years ago is getting pricey on ebay. This started out life as the 67 Galaxie which was then turned into the 68 model, then the 69. I know the 67 had separate seats and console, and the 68 probably did also. So they probably decided to mold it in the interior for 69, but left the 68 seats on the sprue. Technically with the hidden headlight grill it should be a Galaxie XL or an LTD. Round2 did another really good kit with that nice decal sheet! They've really been taking what they have and adding some value with those details. Nice build Chris! One mistake I might point out since I've seen several people make it. You painted the trunk floor steel. From 1965 on, the gas tank sat vertically in front of the trunk floor behind the rear axle.
Whoops. I think I have a 62 Impala I made the same mistake on.
My dad had a ‘68, in white
Yep, there's another one to add to my want list. That would look real good sitting next to a 70 Impala... 2 ideas for the price of one! LMAO
Love your latest build, I was wondering what’s your go to cement for putting your kits together
I personally like Plastruct Bondene. Modelroundup carries it.
What marker are you using for the chrome trim?. Thank you.
I'm in search for a 1965 Ford Galaxies 500
TheJolly Green Giant kit the put out a year or so ago is a 65 Galaxie 500.
Do you sand before you lay down primer? First time putting my 1967 ford fastback together and I've watched a few of your videos but you never talk about sanding
Nope, spray and pray is all I do. Fast, fun model building without sweating perfect finishes and perfect details.
I have built this kit twice and if it had a better engine compartment I would love it. One picky point is that Ford didn't offer the 428 in the 1969 Galaxie only the production 429. They did have the 390 so you could say it's a 390 vice the 428. The decals look awesome and just for that reason I will build the kit.
So what do you do with all your spare parts?
Yup kinda weird that you've got parts that can't be used guess it's parts that go in a different kit
Does it share. Parts with the 70 galaxy
Hey Chris, do you ever have any problems with your future cracking after it dries?
Yeah, I think on some enamels they will still flex a bit and the hard Future cracks. When it has, I just waited a couple weeks, reapplied the clear and all was well.
I want to model a 1967 Galaxie Coupe as seen in the tv series 'The Invaders" - apart from the fact that the tv car looks to be a soft top, can anyone tell me what what other differences exist between the 67 and this model?
What glue do you use. I have a few liquid glues and they do not hold . I little pressure and the parts pop apart.
Model cements melt the plastic parts together so won't stick to paint or chrome. Super glue just wants a smooth surface to bond.
Do you know if Round 2 plans to reissue the 1969 Impala SS kit?
I would love that! The reality is a reissue of the 1970 impala; there was a SS a decade or so ago.
The 69 tooling was updated to the 70 kit that they had out recently. The likelihood of the 69 coming back is pretty low.
Keep hoping - because I wished and wished and prayed for a chevy citation model in 1980. And 1981 Revell issued it. Today I have 6 of them. 2 built and one in the process. In late 1998, Revell issued my fav car - a 1960 impala. By then they issued the 1959 impala a coupe of times. Thanks.
If you don't keep the extra parts that can be left over from the kits you review , way not send them to your fans !
