Would appreciate a part 2 on this topic: -Discussing the amount and extent of the ties (which family relation, cousins, aunt/uncles, in-laws etc., what qualifies as adequate/inadequate and thereby halal/haram) - What types of gatherings are appropriate (mixed/segregated) - What types of discussions to have and how to deal with gatherings with those who indulge in gossip/slander/backbiting packaged as 'socializing', or even watching TV shows/movies together that aren't aligned with Islam packaged as 'family activities'. - How does maintaining ties balance itself with keeping good company versus staying amongst bad company. May Allah guide us all and overlook our shortcomings.

Please please do not ignore family abuse as a reason not to cut ties. If someone is abusing you, you need to stay away from them. Muhammad pbuh says to not be bitten by the same hole twice. My sister was teaching my son that God is within each of us (as in they are God themselves), watching filth around my son while I was at work. Called me a bad mother for not buying my son Nikes or video games. She needed to live with us, so what could I do? I stopped talking to her, but only addressed her when necessary, or helped her with chores, etc. I told her not to discuss these things with my son, but she turned him against me. How could I take control of the situation? My son now has issues with pornography, addicted to video games, etc. She ended up leaving herself. I feel like these issues need to be addressed alongside this Khutbah. You’re keeping people stuck in abuse.
Consider: if you are bound by past and what you did.. then here.. you are learning and facing what you bind/bound. Musa left his birth family by force .. his adopted family by choice.. he left then for 40 years.. to seek outside what he knew .. it is 100% fine for a chikd to go explore outside mom or dads perspective.. but that parent is on the path for a reason.. without His egyptian king brother.. musa doesnt learn the history or ins and outs of Egypt…. How to speak to the Leader… how to guide him.. he doesnt have a right as a hebrew to soeak to that King.. you see?
i don't agree with family sticking together, every circumstance is different, there is families who father or uncle raped the child or beat the wife to the point of death or even they practice haram on daily basis these families must be kept distance with Allah never wants anyone to be hurt and away from him, if anything make you away from Allah even your own family you must consider second thoughts about it, i don't say cut the relationship but keep the distance and pray for them from a distance. Astaghforallah none of us are prophets we can't stay in places that are zinah gonah and not be affected
Haven't watched this yet but the title already tells me this is gonna one of the most important Khutbas. Family ties are such a test.
I found inspiration in every khutba of Nouman ali khan.may Allah grant him a long life filled with blessings and goodness.
