omg thank you... i thought i wasn't trying hard enough. people keep telling you "you need to get over the box!!" but don't tell you how and oof. i had my second pointe class and i did like 20% of what was proposed, esp because the other girls are more advanced in the technique... so i found your video and it's so helpful!

I'm so glad to hear that the video was helpful and encouraging! You're not alone in the challenge and I hope the video gives you some strategies to try to get over your box!
Also make sure you've got shoes that bend low enough to get over the box! If you're not sure and don't have access to a store locally, check out a virtual fitting with someone like The Pointe Shop. The right shoes can make a big difference.
      Happy dancing! :)

i have been struggling getting over the box for months and felt very discouraged cause i have pretty nice feet yet all these shoes just were not helping, then i switched to some very hard supportive russian pointe shoes and now i can fully get over the box so well.. i think sometimes more support and a firmer shank + a correctly fitting box shape can totally change the game for some of us

That's a really great point! Thank you for adding that to the conversation. I'm so glad to hear that you've found a fabulous shoe for your foot! Happy pointe-ing :)

Thank you for always pointing out that the toes have to be straight, not curled under! I trained doing keeping the toes straight when I started ballet again, months before I went on pointe, and it is so crucial for developing correct technique and go up on pointe. Luckily we have some excellent teachers who also tell us this, but on TH-cam, I found it primarily on your channel, with exercises on how to improve this - thank you for this!

Awesome, I'm so glad to hear this was helpful information for you! Yes! What those toes are doing in the shoes is so important and helpful!

Question: When doing one legged relves do you roll up onto your arch or jump up? Because i seem to be getting mixed messages on that. Some people say its rolling but others say its jumping. Does it differ depending on the technique (example Russian or Balanchine)? Or what?

I found your channel from The Pointe Shop’s video! 29 years old and I live in Colorado and I’ve always been interested in ballet. I’d love to learn more about you all once the whole corona mess has blown over! 😊

Thank you so much! I have recently gone en pointe and I’ve been struggling to get on my box! This has helped so much and it’s the first time I am doing it. I will definitely keep doing this!! Should I do this daily or is it too much?

I'm so glad these were helpful tips for getting over your box!
Pointework can be intense for our ankles and feet and they need time to rest and adjust to new things, so try working on it a couple of times a week to start, and then add on additional practice sessions slowly over time. Even once you've worked up some stamina to practice this more frequently, every day might still be too much for those ankles and delicate tendons! As you add in practice sessions, just keep listening to your body, notice for any new aches and pains, and work it in slowly! :)

Thank you so, so much. This really helped me. I'm just a begginer going en pointe and had no idea how to get it to work but now I know. Thank you!😊🌻

I'm confused. I have demipointe shoes. I know I am not supposed to dance on pointe. But some people say it's okay to roll up to pointe and down at the barre as part of practice and other people say it's not ok.
Which is it? It seems like the entire reason to get demipointe shoes is to learn to manipulate the shoe before you start doing more complicated things so I don't understand the controversy.

      @BrocheBallet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Demi pointe shoes don't have a supportive "shank", so they are not meant to roll all the way up to pointe. You are correct in that they are meant to learn how to manipulate the shoe before getting en pointe :)

She looks pretty young for an adult student. Come on. No shortage of instruction for the younger crowd.

Thanks for reaching out! This is Julie, here! We love our adult dancers of all ages, including our college-age dancers. Once dancers reach their 20's, especially when they are beginners and newer dancers, there are very few options for them as well. I experienced this first-hand having started ballet at age 17 and still struggled to find somewhere to go and be taken seriously! Even our dancers on the earlier side of adulthood need somewhere to go, and we love to support all of them! We're happy to be able to feature the wide range of the ages, shapes and sizes of dancers who we work with to achieve their goals with ballet. Happy dancing :)

Ballet is a journey for all, and we're so proud of Liz, who's near the beginning of hers! We must all work harder little by little to achieve our ballet technique :)
