The galaxy is coming right along. Once a skill is acquired you can always do it yourself and save money and know how it was done.

Paint it yourself like someone else said you did the hard work of getting it straight you deserve to get the pleasure of laying down the paint. You can do it I thought myself and love to paint but hate the body work part of it lol. Great job.
Great video. I’m basically in the same spot on my 70 fastback. Just did a quarter and finishing up body work before I paint it. I’ve painted one car, so this will be my second. Looking forward to seeing the 500 come together.

Found this project after watching a few of your vids. Have a 64 Galaxie 500 2 door sedan I am working on. Nice to see some of the stuff I have tried to take apart yet. Cool car!!
Damn, I wish this galaxie was mine....id paint it satin white and get all of the bright work (grille, bars, body trim, etc) refinished/plated in black chrome. Simple black interior with matching retro style front seats, staggeried 18" satin black steel wheels with black chrome dress rings and caps and maybe redline tyres.....😌
Super glad you decided to paint it yourself. Peeked the other Galaxy in the background, looking good. Felt good to see the Galaxies again and hear the truck. Yeah, idling it down would definitely help. You are hanging in and doing great. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Craig got a story for you love Your channel Back in 1966 I was 10 and we went from California to Illinois and my mom's family came to the farm in their cars I had an Uncle that showed up in a 1964 Galaxy 2 door hard top like yours Black with red interior 390 For speed that's what made me fall In love with cars I used to cruise Whittier Boulevard in the seventies when I live in California
Great stuff Craig, your confidence level takes you where you need to be, it’ll be perfect if you paint it, and you’ll be very rewarded….It’s gonna be sick when it’s finished!
This will be worth doing and if you take your time, you will be very happy with the results.
I have done several cars in my garage and always like the look on peoples face when they find out how it was done.
Be prepared to wet sand and buff bit again, it will be worth it.

I always say the only difference between me and a guy who can weld, is I haven’t welded.
So I got a mig and learned how to weld.
BYW, you can probably stick weld on a good 115 circuit. Miller has a whole line of 115 volt stick welding machines. They work pretty awesome once you learn where you like the settings
Now it's Galaxy time You can do it Craig you have learned a lot you can paint it also save all that money can't wait for this project in its completion state
Are you TIG welding bare-handed? Apart from the obvious arc flash burn that you're going to get, you can hold the filler out a lot closer with gloves on and if you have difficulties with the big thick MIG welding gloves try deer skin cloves (usually sold for gardening) they don't have as much heat protection but give you a bunch of dexterity and also cover your hands
I'll testify to getting burned from the arc flash... not because I've been burned... but instead because I've seen the burn on someone else! Prime example?Many decades ago now, I went to school to learn to be a machinist and part of the program was learning to weld at least at a basic level. Not only could you effect repairs yourself, you also learned about & understood how welding influenced the metals you would machine after welding. Also a part of the learning process was the safety aspect of it. One day, one of the guys in my welding courses did NOT heed the instruction and warning to wear a welding jacket along with the gloves and helmet. The next day, he showed up with what looked to be fairly red arms from around the area where the end of the gloves were just above the wrists all the way up to the sleeves of his T-shirt. He even was somewhat red on his chest meaning his T-shirt offered some but not enough protection. Yes, he was feeling it too though he said it wasn't that bad. He'd slathered burn ointment on his arms several times starting in the late afternoon the day before. Moral of the story? You can and WILL suffer burns from arc flash so protect all exposed skin with satisfactory gear. NEVER be around arc flash with unprotected eyes!! With Craig's situation, he needs to ensure that nobody else is around the back of the house while he's welding - including PETS. A cat or dog will suffer the same fate as a human from arc flash. Like anything else practice makes perfect. Paint yourself. Also PB blaster comes in a gallon jug with a small hose attached to and a trigger handle just pump It. You sure you're a lot more for your money. It reminds me of those garden sprays you can get where it pumps it right out of the bottle parrot normally when you doing body work you want something on the other side of the sheet metal to help you shape it.
You're referring to a dolly... bodywork is otherwise known as hammer & dolly work for the obvious reason. Best wishes! 👍🏻👨🏻🔧⚒️

All for the self-sufficiency of painting it yourself, so I say go for it. Finding good body shops willing to paint stuff here in the northeast has been a challenge so I'm heading down this same road.

I wanted to have my C10 sound and drive like that so bad. My dad convinced me to keep the original motor and I’m kinda kicking myself in the butt over it. Now my uncle wants to do a 383 swap on his truck just like what I wanted and I’m jealous xD

Are you planning on redoing the interior yourself or are you going to let someone else do it?
if you worried about thick filler don't be , but if you need to fill anything deep deep use prep with like 60-120grit then fiberglass filler first to build it up then put regular filler on top as finishing coat.

Cool and I had looked into the tig and arc welder it's the smaller one than you got, because I was also going to buy the $567 85341k I believe it was mig and arc gas shielded mig when I needed to replace the rockers and cab corners of the 86 Chevy k20 custom deluxe truck that I had for 12 1/2 years but I couldn't get anyone to help me and didn't have a way of safely removing the cab itself so since I needed a safer vehicle for my son to ride in who is autistic as well, I just traded it off for the early 94 Chevy Silverado extended cab short bed Z71 tbi truck, and now I have the 2000 dodge ram Laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 4x4, but I kinda wish I would have kept my 86 Chevy and tried to fix it but oh well.. regardless those jegs welders seem like great products and probably better than the harbor freight Vulcan setups not the titanium one's though..?!! And I was thinking when you end up sitting down for suspension work and bodywork you might want to look at something like jegs creeper seat I believe it even has a small tool box built into it..Craig sir I usually work outside in the driveway which is gravel smaller stone but still and I have been thinking about buying me one since I always end up doing brake work..

Dash disassembly WAS obvious to the techs of the day, and there were special tools for those hard-to-reach fasteners, tools probably made by Snap-On. 😉
I painted my '64 el camino myself, it's mate purple/blue metallic. I have videos of it on my channel in a playlist.
I painted my car in the driveway with a $10 electric sprayer from K-Mart. Turned out beauuutiful!

Cool I have spray bombed and grey primered a few gm square body Chevy trucks and flat black touch up a gloss black but faded 90 dodge Dakota SE,, they didn't turn out too bad and if you ever choose to do it that way you can a spray paint can nozzle for using the spray paint cans like a gun from harbor freight.. and the paint wasn't as faded as I thought it was on the 90 dodge Dakota SE I kinda regret that one because I made it look like shit... Turns out it was just heavily dirty from where it had sat in town by someone's back fence and the trees on the other side of the fence in the alley... and anyways did you get your other Ford F-250 home yet Craig sir..?!
That’s one of the hardest welds to do, on an edge like that.

i paint all my stuff myself and will continue to do so paint(materials) is very expensive these days so its just better to do it myself plus i know when it will be done plus i like painting so yeah just do it yourself
Just paint it yourself. Buy a bit more paint for a third coat of clear and you'll have enough material to sand it flat. 4-8k for not that many hours of labour is too much on a stripped car with no real panel work needed. Just make sure you test your drop coats on a spare panel if painting a metallic, I learned that lesson after getting some lacklustre results when testing paint batches to decide on a colour. That light coat really helps the metal flakes sit up and shine.

I say paint it yourself. What color are you thinking about painting it , two tone with a white painted roof would look good.

To be completely honest. If you can get a hold of a good booth do it yourself. If not find a quality company like house of kolors and see if they do a sponsor ship. I mentioned kolors from collet Davis having her c6 done.
It's easy to build a temporary paint "tent" out of translucent plastic sheeting that you can buy by the roll from places like Home Depot or Lowe's. It's quick, easy & pretty cheap. If I were Craig, I'd be more concerned that one of the neighbors was going to rat out the illegal painting operation. As I understand it, the penalties are extra stiff in the state of California... and include fines & jail time. I'm not saying that he shouldn't do it, I'm just saying he needs to be really careful. Glad to see you back on the galaxies hopefully youll finish at least one of them,after all it was your beginning into this car thing resto utube adventure.then you can just relax and enjoy and drive something differant every week.thatll free up time to finish the last galaxie how u really want .then flip or trade for something else.no sense having two galaxies unless there meant for two differant styles of racing.street vs drag or rally vs show car.you get my drift.with all ur knowledge of cars n cameras and schooling on enginnering maybe eventaully get into ur own business making car products or some sema-type field setting up car shows or events.or covering media or storys on builds.the possibiltys are endless !!then you can get one of those cars you could only slobber over and a dream shop n home.such as a lambo or a skyline.i respect ur content n enjoy so much more than that say whistlen diesel who just destroys things for views.i watch his stuff just to watch the carnage but its outrageous the waste,more money than he needs apparently,whatever it takes i guess but id rather see a build than a destroy.well good luck on ur path in life craig,much respect!!!snookie pa.
Have you ever looked at getting a blow up paint booth? They are not that expensive and will help you keep bugs off this car unlike the fox body.
The 8k you got quoted, was that for metallic or something? Because 8k for flat color is extremely much.
We've al seen you can paint, no questioning that, but (if you want it to be metallic) are you able to paint metallic? Thats another variable to think about when making the decision.
