The depth of research and explanations with specific examples is extremely helpful. The video has given me ample things to consider before purchasing those Haaland and Mbappe stickers.
Glad you found it educational. As always, do some additional research yourself before making a decision on those. I’ll have a video specifically talking about the Mbappe sticker tomorrow 😉
Great research and insight! I’m bullish on stickers, especially the the first year World Cup ones, but will proceed purchasing them with a lot of caution going forward. Would like you see your take on WCCF cards from Japan, I think these are really undervalued and beautiful cards. Can possibly even argue some may be the players true rookie.
1st year World Cup stickers I think make sense from a narrative perspective, but I really worry about the populations on those. I could probably do a video on WCCF. The base versions of those cards have production similar to stickers. I think some of the short printed ones, and the “true rookie” ones (Benzema) might be okay… but you’re depending on either the current or future market participants taking WCCF more seriously than they currently do.

Mbappe in Monaco kit is a huge factor for the sticker...and it's '16 vs '17....... just like HAaland in his red Salzberg gear as well. Enjoyed the vid.
Amazing video Thankyou. Was thinking of buying the Mbappe Rookie sticker at some point but now I think I will avoid. There needs to be way more collectors in the hobby before investing so much cash in this sticker would be worthwhile. Also worried about fake stickers as you pointed out
Great presentation and certainly agree ultra modern stickers dont make good investments. The ordering missing stickers option on Panini is a lifesaver for collectors though. Countless times over the years I have used them to complete collections. So from a collector standpoint its brilliant. Since the boom and the many new investors, ordering missing stickers was certainly exploited in the case of Haaland and Panini made the most of it by doing a second print.
I don't mind the system at all for collectors in terms of providing the missing stickers. I actually think they're on the right track with things like the Haaland 2nd print looking different than the first. I wish PSA/BGS/etc. graded that as "2nd print" or "missing sticker print" to distinguish. I'd feel much better in that case.
Great job, James. What year do you think is the cutoff where production combined with conditional attrition is conducive to sticker investing (ignoring the counterfeit issue for the time being) ?
Thanks! There's not necessarily a year cutoff, it's a case by case basis. For example, the 2006-2014 world cup sticker sets have massive production, so year doesn't really matter there. If I were to try a set an exact rule, something like 2015 and prior for league specific sets and 1994 and prior for world cup releases might be the sweet spot. For Champions League like Salah 2013, I'd need to do some heavier research.
Great Video (Guess I'll wait on offering half the ask on this 2018 Panini Treble Vinicius Junior RC Purple /49 PSA 10). Something I have been wondering about when collecting vintage is when is buying a nonrookie card for a star or legend a good or great idea. The desire for the rookie makes that card exponential on legends. Are the high grade 2nd, 3rd, 4th, you get the idea, year cards worth grabbing given opportunity cost of not spending that cash on the rookie. For example 1954 A & BC ALL SPORT SERIES SOCCER FERENC PUSKAS (not his first card - another issue) vs. 1960 HEINERLE FERENC PUSKAS (what's high grade for this period - a separate issue). Is there a year after the rookie where it seems to typically not make sense to grab a card for said legend? Looks like you like doing the math so the question. I'm not going to do it even though I can and should. For now I'm just buying both types of cards until the cash dries up - should make money either way. Thanks in advance if you decide to do something on this.
Is the Haaland rookie sticker really that much more common than his other rookie cards? Haaland Fussball sticker total graded: 2,204 Haaland Finest total graded: 1,519 (not including parallels) Haaland Bunesliga Chrome total graded: 1,561 (not including parallels) Haaland UCL Chrome total graded: 1,718 (not including parallels) That doesn't really seem like a significant difference to me. And if you took out the number of on-demand stickers that are including in that pop count, it would be lower. Enjoyed the video!
This gets into the issue of Haaland just having too many releases. If PSA/BGS/whoever specifically split out the 1st print stickers and we could see the real pop was 200 (or something similar) I would feel much different about it. The problem is the grading companies will never do that, because too many people bought 2nd/3rd prints without knowing any better and would get killed.

Thanks so much for all the info!! I didn’t know that about modern stickers so glad I haven’t gotten any so far :P

You’re welcome. I think waiting isn’t the worst idea right now. There are so many unknowns with both the market and his career at this point.
What would you say about the Monaco Panini Mbappe cards ? they are older than the cards you showed at 16:40
9:30 so it would take another Giannis situation where a guy has few gem cards because they are seen as uncollectible player
