This video is episode 1, and an introduction to a new, mom & son blog, with Debbie Jorde and Logan Madsen.
Our goals are to communicate to you honestly and candidly, how we are able to overcome,, accept and live with, the multiple challenges we face every day. We will share our methods for finding joy, happiness, and peace in the face of both common and uncommon, challenges. We hope to help you as you face your challenges. Believing that sharing our stories in these honest, candid conversations we will have together, about the human condition, will help other people, gives meaning to our challenges and purpose to our lives.
Many of our vlog episodes will be answering people’s questions, your questions. We invite you to submit questions in the comments section. We thank you in advance!
Message from Logan Madsen, artist and public speaker:
"I spend all of my energy on creating art, chores and working hard on my mental health, to stay alive; and maybe even enjoy it some more. I've had profound conversations with friends, family and strangers about how much we all have in common, as it pertains to the human condition. These experiences are the foundation for why my mother and I want to do this vlog. Please ask either of us any questions in the comments! I appreciate you for being here!"
Message from Debbie Jorde, author and public speaker:
“We all have challenges. When people see the challenges our family faces due to my son and daughter, Logan and Heather Madsen, having two rare syndromes; Miller syndrome and a lung disease called, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), autism, profound hearing loss, and other challenges, as well as, the challenges I face from having multiple sclerosis, MS, they think their challenges pale in comparison.
I’m telling you that your challenges feel just as hard to you as ours feel to us. For example, fear is fear, sad is sad, frustrated is frustrated, etc., no matter who’s feeling the emotion. This is the ‘human condition that Logan talks about above. We are not alone in our challenges. We can overcome them together.”
Learn more about our family on Debbie Jorde TH-cam channel, where you will find videos of talks we’ve given to the general public, medical students, Department of Workforce Services, medical personnel, caregivers, and others. You will find other videos as well, such as, slide shows of Logan’s art, slideshows of photos of Heather and Logan from childhood to adult, and more.

I admire you both so very much. You both have had to go through tough times but yet have worked through it and now this Blog will help others going through some tough times too.
I remember seeing Heather play the piano and was so delighted how well she played. So we all go through tough times through our lives that we have to work through and do the best we can. I lost my 47 yr old son this next March will be 4 yrs ago and still trying to work through that heartache. I am able to function but not a day goes by that I don't miss him.😢 He made bad choices that caused some medical problems in his late 30s that eventually took its toll on his health and his life. He had always been very healthy and he was always very smart. So it was mixed emotions that I was so hurt and angry that his bad choices almost destroyed me by losing him. I felt like he was selfish but I do realize addiction is a mental illness that is hard to stop. I just live now with a forever broken heart💔 I couldn't fix his illness or save him from the addiction, so every day of my life I feel the loss. I miss him terribly.😢 So many ifs !! My Prayer is to be with him again in Heaven when I die.. Thank you for your Blog❤

Thank you for sharing your personal story💕 I’m so sorry for your loss 🥲 I know the pain🥲 Grief is so complicated. A TED talk that is helping me is by Nora McInerny: We don't "move on" from grief. We move forward with it
Perhaps it might help you in some way🙏 Sending you love and a hug!❤️

I was introduced to you, Debbie, when you gave that heartfelt talk to those doctors. Even then, I only saw that speech approximately 6 months ago. Since then, I have had a fast paced introduction to your beautiful family, watching your videos. Your wedding was beautiful. You're a wonderful mother and you gave birth to amazing kids. Heather was legendary! Logan is an amazingly talented man.
My son has disabilities which is so difficult at times. But us mums, we just keep going. Bringing love and light to our kids and our lives.
    Blessed Be ❤️❤️❤️

Logan, I appreciate the courage it took to leap into a public forum. I actually laughed at your “grumpy old man” comment. I am personally dealing with isolation. I think that isolation probably describes “the human condition” most prevalent today. I am my mother’s sole caregiver. Structuring my day has become something of a struggle. I love to read and write but find myself bogged down by the many mundane, repetitive tasks of life. And then there is the problem of pain, another “human condition”. Your courage and Debbie’s courage are a solace to me. Happy to follow your vlog!

Pain is pain. How true that statement is. When my brother was dying from cancer I experienced severe anxiety and depression. I was ashamed to talk to him about it. I felt like my issues were so insignificant compared to his terminal diagnosis. Once I broke down and shared what I was going through we were able talk openly. He was the one who made me realize that my pain was my pain and not to compare it.

I am a doctor and I found the youtube videos with the talks to medical students to be inspiring and these talks should really be required listening for all future clinicians. I would love hospital administrators and insurance co execs (who control access to essential services for all of us) to all be required to listen to the wisdom you share.

A question for Logan: For me, getting out into nature has always been rejuvenating for me. Sure, hiking, but also just road trips. Like to National Parks. Logan, are you able to take that kind of road trip, with friends or family? If so, what places have inspired you?
