  • What if kings could actually serve their subjects instead of hiding away like a damsel in distress? We look at some effects that might exist in Regicide, or a newer more extreme Regicide mode. Or just a mod, as you may prefer.

It would be interesting if, starting in feudal age, the king had the same attack and armour as a Militia line unit the player has.
It wouldn't help much in combat, but at least it would show some combat practice that the nobles were supposed to have.

Along the same lines, wonders should do more. Have them collect resources like a fetoria, or give trade carts more gold, or make vills work faster in their foot print, or make buildings work faster, there's so much potential as to what could be done to make wonders a viable part of strategies in ranked games, if not just making wonder victories a standard part of ranked games.

Kings providing some sort of aura making any actual attack agaisnt them more meaningful I think is the best way to go about it. A simple attack speed boost or other form of "morale" motivation is fine. I don't mind the King being mostly useless as the name of the game is defending him, but giving him some boosting function to his nearby guards would make taking him out a more meaningful affair.

Kings are like the most important unit stats: 0 protection 50 health faster than a knight yet has a belly larger than saladin great army that is going somewhere , I think kings should get a stat change something to make them harder to lose 70 or a 100 health 2 pierce armor (that crown is counted as armor lol) but yeah I think they could use some interesting addition something that really cracks up regicide mode instead of it being "kill enemy king u win" its more like "here is your king don't lose it! And kill enemy king u win but here is the thing ur king provides u cool bonuses so maybe u should try playing around with him?"

Honestly I wouldn't be opposed to a 5% boost in a 30 tile radius. They're gonna see trees and try to figure out how to take them out.
A smaller boost to speed or attack speed could be useful. Maybe 3 small ones to encourage strategies based on your civ. Like the celts castles he's in gets double the healing radius and 66% faster firing rate but nothing else.
Or the teutons get plus 2 range or plus 2 price armor and plus 2 dmg per projectile to seige equipment for his garrison.

If you get a bonus from kings then you could have them available in the castle.
You could also give them upgrades.
I made a mod where the castle allowed the production of hero units, they used a hidden resource so that you could only have one Genghis Kahn, or 10 Archers of the Eyes. It gives a little power spike in castle age.

It would be fun if King and troops have the ability to garrison in trade wagon or similar type of transport (aside from buildings and ships)... It would be real fun to see an innovent trade wagon or caravan riding up and down with the king in it and the opponent is trying to snipe it.. exploding kings in regicide would be more fun if the king can use something else as a transport for maneuvering and speed to reach a location for explosion or simply just to escape death. It would be more entertaining. Also what of the king can also fight with a slightly higher HP and damage (unique for every civ) ... Might make a small difference when a unit is trying to snipe.
I lile the idea of Aura from the king for bonus damage etc. Would be interesting if a certain no of unique is assigned as protection of king and those units become elite guards ..6-12 units...given how in regicide there are some players who would walk the king around with an escort surrounding the king in a formation...

  • @amyloriley
    @amyloriley 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

If a per-civ unique bonus is too much for a king, perhaps you might look into a per-architeture-set king bonus.
    - Central Asian kings
    - Central European kings
    - East Asian kings
    - Eastern European kings
    - Mediterranean/South European kings
    - Middle Eastern kings
    - Native American kings
    - South Asian/Indian kings
    - Southwest Asian kings
    - Western European kings
It's a bit less so the scope can be a bit more realistic, while still offering unique bonuses, and theming kings together.
This way too, if one king gives a bonus to knights, the Aztec king could be fine with it without losing out, replacing their king bonus with something non-cavalry-related.
It also fixes the problem of having to find something that works for every civilization, expanding the range of options.

if we are going to be playing regicide, and then putting the king in harms way outside of the castle, then the bonus has to be something BIG.

Or they could morph into hero units from each scenario. For example William Wallace could be the king unit for the Celts, likewise Joan of Arc for the franks, then have their special ability be to stack up on the civ’s existing bonuses. Though I propose it be locked behind a 3rd unique tech which would be costly but very effective. Anyway just throwing some ideas out there

I think the King should be able to trained if you have a caslte, killing a king would not the definitetive lost but just a set back, you lost all the bonus from the king untill you trained a new one. History has countless example of kingdoms or empires were not completely crumbled after its king was killed, they replace him with an heir and continue fighting.
Another solution is doing what the Age of Empires 3 do, the king do not die, when taken down he's only grievously wounded and required your army to rescue or paying some ransom fee to get him back

Personally, I believe that every civilization should have its own King with his own unique power (Queen for some civs would be swell too). Imagine if you could also mount the King to give him immense power in combat. Or as another commenter said, Tamar could act as a backliner to heal her army, so why not make Regicide more fun than simply playing a different civilization?

LOL i just commented the «Age of taxes» video about the Queens and Kings topic, LOL resuming: i love the idea of the King and Queen being usefull in random games too, not only in some game modes and campains. About Princesses lol lets leave them in campains only for now =P But i actually like the Prince figure... How about just like i said in the other comment on the other video, King and Queen are available in the Castle when the Civ has acces to it, and we should train them from the castle to have them. Then later when you get to the Imperial Age you get acces to a new unit hero, the Prince, that is a warrior with an aura to buff nearby military units, just like the king, but this one will be a powerfull warrior to acompany the army to war and inspire them to succes! The Prince should be a unique unit for each Civ, being specific for each civilazation for example an Archer or an Infantry man or an cavalry man, depending on the civ. Actually i would add some more to the other comment, the King figure should be a warrior too, not too powerfull but should have good stats for an infantry of Castle Age. Kings could have a regional skin, like you sugested but not the one that dont fight. I want him to fight too, give him a skin similar to the 2 handed swords man with a cape in the Castle Age and a crown in the head too LOL. This is the one i like more! The fat kings leave them to the regicide mode and campains, but give those the inspire ability too. About the Queen she could have the power to buff the vilagers and economy and the King should be a warrior and inspiration for the entire kingdom. In my other comment in the other video i said both should have the same hability to buff the villagers and the military, but i believe now that the Queen should take only the role of buffing the economy and vilagers. The King sould be a very usefull warrior specially in Castle Age and later in Imperial age he should leave that role for the Prince because the King should be runing the kingdom living the fight for the more powerfull fighter the Prince. (The King (unit) will still be able to fight but it has no direct upgrades (only the upgrades from the blacksmith) so it will not be a relevant warrior in the late game, but he could still be buffing the working sites or the military buildings, or generating Gold if needed.
LOL About the Princess i could see one use that actually i find tematic to the game!! LOL How about we in the Imperial Age get acces to a new Tech for all civs «Descendants». When researched it will give you acces to train 2 new units the Prince and the Princess. Well the Prince i just said how it would work the Princess would have the same aura to buff the vilagers and eco units/buildings like the Queen. But is not only that... you could use the Princess to bind two kingdoms toguether like it was in miedle ages! Forge an aliance with other kingdom with the marriage of the Princess to the Prince of that kingdom! How about that =P for something like this i would like to have a Princess =P if not for this i dont see a use for the Princess that is not allready taken by the Queen. What do you think about this?

    • @jhonylg4045
      @jhonylg4045 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well i will just copy what i comented in the other video («Age of taxes») and past it here if you want to check it out:
(...) « I would make the King and Queen exactly the same way as these 2 units, but with a nuance on those 2. They would increase the working rate of vilagers or any Eco-units even more then Merchants and Magistrates but could buff the military units too! Inspiring and giving them more speed (movement speed), damage per hit and health in a predetermined radius as well. The King and Queen could be garrisoned toguether or not in a Town Center or Castle and could be trained in a Castle when the Castle is Available to the player. The Gold trickle again, would only be working if they are garrisoned and the tricle should be greater then the trickle of Merchants and Magistrates, ( Queen +100% of the gold trickle from a Merchant or Magistrate and the King +100% of the tricle from a Queen). The King and Queen should not be converted in any circunstance of curse, but if they are killed... well some one has to take their role again! So make other one. These units train time should be large 1 minute for example, and they sould have some kind of cool down timer before you make the next unit, (in that building) for example if you make a Magistrate in one TC, you will not be able to start training another one in that TC for 60 secs for example, and the same for Merchants in Markets, or the Queen and King in the Castle! But if you have multiple of those buildings you could train that unit in other building and have the cool down timer for that building when the unit comes out. These units should be dificult to replace.
I think that these units should have a relevante role in game without being too OP, I liked the 60 Gold/min mark, and i think that this would not be too much, so i would make that the base value of gold income for the King and Queen when both are garrisoned. So we would have 40 G/Min for the King, 20 G/Min for the Queen and 10 G/Min for each of the Merchants and Magistrates when garrisoned inside their respective buildings. So 60 G/Min for the King and Queen, and another 60 G/Min for 3 Merchants and 3 Magistrates so 120 G/Min if you have all of them. The Town Centers are the only buildings that can have all of those units garrisoned inside but only 2 will be generating Gold, the 2 that generate more gold per minute will be the ones generating gold, so if you have a King a Queen and some of the other units inside the same TC only the King and Queen will generate gold regardless of the order that they are garrisoned inside that building.
My God so much that i have to say about this topic lol, i actually liked this idea a lot!!! And i have never thought about this matter before LOL!! But it makes sence, all units should have a role in game! And it is a shame that we dont have some thing like this to make these units valued!! »
