Hi 👋 Good film footage in colour. I visited Waikaraka Park Stockcar racing back in the late 1960s through into the mid 1970s. I remember drivers such as Phil Joyce , Sam Ferabend , Joel Wright , Graham Mitchell etc. The famous Pall Mall team. It was good fun then. Its very different nowadays.
Its insane to think what the whole "stock car scene" has come too these days, after watching this old footage....which is great by the way. My time was Forest Lake, Paradise Valley and Bay Park in the 70s..
I am certainly no expert! Do you think I should I include "Production Sedan" in the subject along with "Stock Car"? I just want to be accurate in my description thanks.
Am I seeing things, or is this Speedway adjacent to a Cemetery?? I imagine those roaring open exhausts added a tranquil, almost calming air for those visiting their bereaved. Reminds me of Australia's old (and very fast) Gnoo Blas racing circuit which literally surrounded (encased) a Mental Hospital inside the track. Indeed, the main straightaway was officially called "Mental Straight"!
Correct, it is a Cemetery. That end of the track is (was?) known as Cemetery bend. These days the racing is at night, so probably only disturbs the residents in there.
That's some great footage. We have a pic at work somewhere of number 84, the Herb Morgan sponsored car. Herb Morgan's still going too.

My uncle was Auckland street stock champ a few times, in the early 90s Bernard thickpenny
Awesome footage
I am looking forward to showing it to Bruce later this week!

Reg Cook 👍
The Production Sedan Race at 1:30 - looks like visiting Liverpool Speedway driver Peter Crick in the #1 Holden Monaro

Sam "The Man" Ferabend and Peter Howarth were my childhood Waikaraka heroes!
The sway bars omg 😂😂😂😂😂
Fantastic footage. And we thought they were fast back then. Bring the drums back, as we have catch fencing now. Umm, no.
