So with this project, you need to ask yourself, is it worth spending $6 on a cord when I can just get a new generic charger for about $15? For most of you, the answer is likely no. But just in case you do, here is the video for you. I hope you find it helpful.

Great simple video helped with all the details. Did it myself and it worked! Thanks!!
The video is fantastic and the explanation is excellent. Could you please share a new link to purchase the cable as the previous one appears to be broken? I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Great video do you ever check for the correct voltage and amps?
Wow man thank you this is really helpful I looked at a new charger price and it's 79.00!
Just finished the swap out. Plugged it in and attached to MacBookPro. The light on the end lit-up green but flashes -- it flashes briefly at 2-sec interval. The Charge lightning bolt on the screen goes on and off in time with the green light as it goes on and off.
Thoughts?
Love your DIY table
Interestingly these are known to start working again if you heat them up a bit such as sitting on the the brick or using a hair dryer. It only works for that one time though it does work, I've tried it.
Great job! Short and clear.... Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! the pilers method to open worked great for me!
my magsafe 2 cable had that issue , I ask to service for it and they said we dont repair it you can get new one (90$). I repaired it with your way in 10$. Thanks sir.
White cable is a positive?
Black - negative?
Can you splice the wires and tie/tape them together instead? I know it’s kind of ghetto but I don’t have a solder tool as I don’t do much work on electronics.thanks for the help
Yes you can. Just cut the existing wires as close to the cable connector as possible. Then you will have enough to work with to splice them. For a few dollars you can buy some heat shrink for the wires when you splice then together. That is a lot better than tape. When you put the brick back together it will be such that there is no tension on the connections you made so the wires will have zero chance of coming apart.
Won't make a good permanent connection and you'll just end up buying a new one the next week prob
So I bought a replacement cable on amazon. I took the old cable off that still worked, but had some breaks in the insulation. Once I wired up the new cable and it would not charge the laptop. I wound up reconnecting the old one and it worked again. I even tried reversing the polarity of the wires in case they messed up at the factory in china with no luck. Its the right replacement cable, as the magnetic plug matches up, just cant figure it out. Maybe I should do a continuity test on the cable? I am just not sure what each of the terminals represent on the plug of the laptop end.
Could be a faulty new cable. The pinout diagram is here: pinoutguide.com/Power/magsafe_power_pinout.shtml
did you let the adapter discharge before put your fingers there...
The link is no longer available.
Is there anyway to do this without the solder?
No
Im pretty sure that if you get the black and white cable and splice them then get the new replacement cable and twist the wires it should work since power is still going through them
Thanks
someone have idea ? is possible adapter a cable magsafe 1 on power source magsafe 2?
Good video. Thanks.
Apple had a class action lawsuit against them for these chargers. Probably in 2006; if I remember correctly. They still haven't fixed the problem looks like.
Interesting.
Like it.
Thanks
Thanks a lot
Thanks!
The link to the cord purchase on Amazon is dead. Probably due to the chinabug.
