- In today’s spoiler-free movie review, I’m talking about the latest movie directed by Will Gluck called, Anyone but You.
A little information about, Anyone but You:
Anyone but You is a 2023 romantic comedy starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. It is directed by Will Gluck, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ilana Wolpert, based on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. The film also stars Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet, and Rachel Griffiths.

Hey, Mike! Australia is already on my bucket list, so I'm happy to hear it's showcased in this film.
Rom-coms can be hit or miss, but I do enjoy the fact that they can leave you walking away with a generally good feeling after they're over.
I was a little undecided on seeing this one. But after your review, I might just check it out now.

Australia is really beautiful and the scenic shots used throughout only displayed a fraction of the scope of the country for sure lol.
I do agree about rom-coms but I am certainly a sucker for them and I do enjoy them. This one doesn’t do anything or reinvent the wheel but I still had an enjoyable time even if it doesnt work for everyone 🙂

You really touched upon many things that I love about this movie. Also look for director Will Gluck’s intentional Easter egg honoring his 2010 comedy “Easy A” that stars Emma Stone. And, no, it is not the use of another Natasha Bedingfield song-in this case “Unwritten”. It has to do with the Ojai, California setting of “Easy A”…
Oh right! I never knew that Raymond, I will have to check it out and see if I notice the Easter egg as I didn’t realise 😂

Really well-said, entertaining review! Watched your video again. I love this film. Sleeper Hit alert update: The box office earnings of “Anyone But You”… On a $25 million budget, it has done a very solid over $80 million worldwide as of 16 January and rising and still opening in many countries.
Also it accomplished a “unicorn” feat at the North America box office: It had three successive weekends where in each weekend it made more money than the weekend before. This has created a lot of buzz among box office watchers on TH-cam and elsewhere…
It is considered the first box office surprise of 2024…

* Spoilers Ahead * I am a romcom superfan-of romcoms from the 1930s to the present. I have now seen “Anyone but You” several times now-loving it more and more, and here are numerous things I like about this romcom for this new era and so popular now with Gen Z:
1. The Will Gluck Easter eggs for “Easy A”: Ojai and numerous shots of oranges.
2. The meet cute scene at the cafe (one of many romcom tropes I fully embrace in the film).
3. Bea’s sex-like gymnastics above Ben on the plane after stealing his cookie.
4. The use of “Unwritten”, beginning in the airline scene. Which becomes a glorious leitmotif song for the movie-and a TikTok phenomenon!
5. Gorgeous Alexandra Shipp and Hadley Robinson as the loving wedding couple-indeed, all the couples in the movie including the parents.
6. GaTa as the loyal, clever, irrepressible best friend.
7. Ben’s vulnerabilities of being older, fit-looking but “hot girl fit” aka no cardio aka no endurance.
8. The romantic yacht dance Bea and Ben share, “Titanic”, and the night harbor scene. The Opera House backdrop to our two lovers on a buoy is iconic. As is the helicopter rescue to the song “Unwritten”-followed by that sexy shower scene.
9. The audacious leap off the cliff leading to the second chopper airlift of Ben to the Opera House for that exhilarating declaration of love and kissing and Bea saying, “Tomorrow, running for Mr. No Cardio”.
10. The whole end scene done to “Unwritten.
11. The other songs besides leitmotif tune “Unwritten”, as well as the film’s music score…
12. The heady romance of it all!

You’re on your way to American Idol. As far as the movie me and the wife had a good time with it. I think I’d give it a 3/5, From a critic perspective it’s easy to pick apart but, I would say depends on your mood.
😂😂 Definitely not my friend, I wouldn’t get pass the audition stage lol.
But I think we’re on similar page with this one, a good enough one time watch or so on a movie that knows what it is 🙂

Defo on the same page, I enjoyed it, laughed and smiled at much of it but wow, how clichéd! It was like 99% of the story was straight out of 1989 with everyone being beautiful, the rich family villa, the blond Aussie beach boy ... and a spider incident in Oz is so obvious. Very much paint by number predictable..but even if you know the destination, still quite a fun ride. 3 stars from me. Defo needed this light relief just after Xmas

First film of 2024. Lots of laughs and beautiful scenery. Enjoyed it. 6/10 for me.

I see a lot of hate for this movie but me and the audience i watched it with enjoyed it. It's no Nora Ephron movie, but it's a step in the right direction to bring back modern romcoms and not another victorian/renaissance era one.
Watched it last night. I even took my wife since we don’t watch many movies together. I had some sort of excitement to check it out but I gotta say that this movie is just ok for me so most likely I won’t rewatch it. My wife didn’t like it, btw.
