    Thank you for video!! I do wish NP would head in the same direction as PA, in that you cover it all, so that you don't have to go back to school if you decide you want to start taking care of a different population!

    I’m an ACNP that works in Various ICUs
    This is good video information for new NPs
    My recommendation:
    1. I recommend taking the Fundamentals of Critical Care thru Society of Critical Care Medicine. there is also an OB course.
    2. Also recommend shadowing an ICU NP.
    3. recommend an ICU Fellowship for new grads.

    What type of personalities/backgrounds have you found different in the NP ER vs. Acute Care roles?

    • @BreeJuskowiak
      @BreeJuskowiak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      In the ER NP’s are either FNP or ACNP. These are usually two different personality types. The ER ACNP is the one doing traumas and criticals and they also are the type who enjoy the “buzz.” They are very similar to ICU providers in that arena. The ER FNP likes the urgent care type of interaction. Different from the primary care FNP who values relationships over time.
      The ER ACNP vs the ICU ACNP are slightly different. In ER their relationship is limited. Their role is focused resuscitation and stabilization and diagnosis. This also happens in ICU but we have longer interactions and much of our daily tasks involve formulating plans for established patients. Lots of talks and interactions with families.
      Does that help?

      @@BreeJuskowiak Extremely helpful! I have a background as an EMT/Paramedic, went to medical school for a year, left went through nursing school and now work in the ER as a nurse but I've been wanting to go back to NP school now that I have a few years experience. Don't really know the route to go, I do like the ER but I've I'm not a big fan of the ICU. I don't really care for urgent care, and I have an interest in business etc as well.. I'm just very used to the ER lifestyle. I do like the idea of learning more critical care skills but our NPs don't do much in the ED.
