That tortoise definitely caught me off guard. That was the one card they could draw to end the game with and they drew it with the placement bonus
The platypus is worth 9 points since it's the 6th herbi for meerkat den, compared to 8 for filling map. The game losing move that I don't think you called out was not pouching anything for kangaroo, which would've made us tie. I think I either misclicked or thought it was asking me to sunbathe/dig.
EDIT: I watched the replay, and that last cards action was because I had nothing but the porcupine to play (Move 314). I drew the kangaroo and platypus from that cards action. I should've filled my map in the same build action previous to drawing cards in case I drew into a high point playable animal (like the tortoise, ironically) and tried to end without another break
Didn't notice the pouching at all, actually insane that it came to this. The tortoise was criminally lucky, you are totally right that it is literally the only card in the deck which puts Gorilla into a winning position here. It really was a confluence of fortunate coincidences: Drawing the card in the first place, then having the perfect money for it, having enough cards to sunbathe, and hitting exactly 100. But, as JDansp likes to say: Better be lucky than good.
Did you consider using 2 X tokens on final build to fill map?
I had full knowledge of what was coming and didn't even register that it was enough to cross, so can't blame you at all for not expecting it. You're right that I also missed the no pouching Kangaroo. A true tie would have been a fitting result!
@@monkeyunit4533 I did consider it, but with porcupine being the only playable card in hand at the time, I wanted to conserve x tokens to have flexibility to either cause the break or do Animals at 5 twice to get the third worker to associate again, since my opponent had enough workers to support two projects, but didn't look like had enough money to play animals to end. If they needed the break for money to end, I wouldn't want to cause the break and could animals twice to get to 8 rep and end before the break. If they could end before the break, I could break to get my worker back. Either way, them ending with one associate and one animals action was not considered. I should have considered the tortoise when they built that random size 3, even though they didn't have the tortoise at the time yet.
If I had drawn cards (and saw the kangaroo and platypus) before building, I would've filled the map then.
Taking extra worker bonus instead of size 2 to fill map was very odd. Extra worker was very unlikely to be useful.
I recently played a game without upgrading build for the first time ever. I scored over 150 points (bga scoring). Basically played a ton of sponsors and picked my spots for playing animals.

Game 2 not keeping Platapus makes sense, the water requirement on a size 2 is awkward on this map.
This is true. There are arguably 6 good cards in that opening hand so you can't go too wrong either way.

Game 1 throw by opponent. Size 2 bonus instead of dead worker bonus and they win it.
Game 1 wasn't as much a throw but more a very liky Tortoise showing up to bail them out.
Game 2 opponent did throw a bit early game letting them get away with being greedy playing things from display.
@@monkeyunit4533 it was though. Extra worker bonus reward did nothing whereas size 2 would have given the win. Basically opponent was leading all game, fumbled a bit at the end and the Tortoise came exactly as needed.
@@markvanderwerf8592 Calling it a throw is too harsh imo. Size 2 bonus was not very important, as electrolled could have just filled their map normally by doing Build 6 instead of 4 with their last building action. Not choosing to fill the map was a misjudgment for sure, but it's easy to get surprised by the Tortoise-Grizzly combo. If Guerilla Gorilla just has 1 less appeal, electrolled can break and win the game with their next association action.
