Many fans believe that the mysterious girl is his reflection which embodies his masculine and feminine sides. On the contrary, I also think that the girl represents the ARMYs. Jimin and the other members have been struggling and facing hardships since their debut days and the fans have always been there to support them, to protect them, always ready to cheer them up. How many times did Jimin cry because of his gratefulness and love towards ARMYs. During the pandemic, he said that not being able to see the fans and perform live for them really took a tool on his perspective as an artist. Jin and Jhope portrayed ARMYs as a child in their MVs Astronaut and Hope on the Street but for Jimin, since the song was inspired from a romance movie, Like Crazy, I think it makes sense that the ARMY is represented by that girl. It’s sad because the love story between Jimin/BTS and ARMY is the same as the heartbreaking love story of Ana and Jacob in Like Crazy. It’s a long distance love story which won’t have a happy ending because we belong to a different world. Jimin will probably find the love of his life and us, ARMYs have found and will find the love of our lives in the future. And that’s why, Jimin and the girl didn’t really end up being together. ARMYs are also Jimin’s escape.

I love Set Me Free Pt2 so much it's such an anthem!! And it really fits for the last song on the album. He's overcome so much and this song encapsulates it all. Like Crazy is of course a queen I love it just as much. The choreo is some of my favorite Jimin choreo 😊💜

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Great MV. Jimin ult here, Suga wrecker OT7. The vocals, wow. The visuals, i had shivers. Powerful for sure. This was 100% new. 0.0 I am like stunned. Shoock really. Go Jimin!!! Powerful exactly. No one but Anitra @saywhatreacts and Rosan @xCeleste has mentioned he used some aspects of Lie choreo in his new song. And ON vibes for sure. ON inspo. Heard this was the last song in the album. Like dang! 0.0 So glad u loved it. =0} So much symbolism too. So deep. I need a dance practice! Oh my gosh. Some choreo was from a Jackson Wang song called Blow. The more i watch the more i find things i did not notice on the 1st watch. The body tat German poem is beautiful and very fitting. Heard Sienna Lalau worked on this choreo. Not sure if she created alone or with a team though. UCLA choir was used again. They use them all the time on songs. The spiral/ the golden ratio, shell, 9, metaphors used as usual. The moon series of tats on his back is real. His Nevermind tat on his ribs is real and his 13 tat on his wrist is real too. The German poem on his chest tat was temporary. Jimin also has a 7 tat bet. his fingers on one hand. He has young forever tat above his elbows and youth behind his ear. But we did not see these in this MV. But showing his tats is another sign to us and himself that he is free. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

Jimin’s words - “I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white.”

Part 1 is on Agust D's D-2 mixtape.😉 They are loosely connected. Jimin noted a similarity in themes (almost like a before and after).
    Renee Zemlock said on 3/30/23
"Set Me Free" is a track on SUGA's second mixtape "D-2". Jimin said in an interview that the two songs aren't directly correlated, but that the themes are similar in that Yoongi's is about being trapped while Jimin's is the second stage of actually being "set free" so he named his "Pt. 2"
    lovedbyyoongi said on 3/17/23
"When the track list for the album was revealed, many noticed that this pre-release single was designed as "Pt.2" despite the fact that Jimin doesn't have any existing songs to his name titled "Set me free". He confirms that It's nod to a track on bandmate Yoongi's second mixtape, D-2. "There isn't a connection, and we weren't trying to divide part one or part two," he explains. "But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and Yoongi's song talks about some of the stories that come before. I thought it would be good to come after that" quoted from twitter.
    ProdSuga said on 3/18/23
This vocal range from Jimin is so diverse and changes line to line between. He has incorporated bass (E2-E4), baritone (A2-A4), tenor (C3-C5), counter tenore (E3-E5) plus his head voice and falsettos.. ALL IN ONE SONG. Insane.
    dublew said on 3/18/23
I saw this on twitter " yoongi, who raps fast and violent, asking for freedom in the most wistfully soft way, like a sigh to the air. and jimin, who sings gently and delicately, declaring his freedom in a loud war cry, commanding & absolute. that’s Art to me. "
The differences between Set Me Free on D-2 and Jimin's Set me Free pt2.
Also it's cute that the date I'm the corner at the beginning of the video is Yoongi's birthday and not the actual release date :3

I think the dancers in black could represent the doubts, fears and lack of confidence that he suffered at the start. And the autotune voice represents that angry, frustrated inner voice.
    I love this song 😭
    GrownupFangirl said on 3/18/23
I think this is directed inward. He used to be weighed down by trying to be manly enough, good enough, worrying about what others thought and was crazy hard on himself. So happy that he’s at peace and comfortable with who he is. He’s such a beautiful artist. 💜

In my, of course, unbiased opinion this is the best debut among the guys, and that is saying something given how much I truly love Indigo and Jack in the Box. People were floored when they saw JHope's More. It was surprising in a way but also so on brand for JHope. Jimin, well. He has been painted as this polite, funny, and charming guy and I believe those are all true, but he has a soul of an artist. People are thrown off by the auto-tune which is used as an effect to show his inner dialog and opinions from others that have caged him. His response to these things is his singing/rapping voice in a register many have not experienced. I can't think of many that have taken so much hatred. It is now his time to shine and be fully and authentically himself. I am so excited for the album and his live performance on Jimmy Fallon's show.

    Some of the symbolism:
The video appears to haven been filmed inside a panopticon prison - where prisoners were watched 24/7 without relief
Jimin sings "set me free" 9 times in each chorus. 9 usually represents fulfilment (e.g. of a cycle) and symbolises awakening and inner wisdom gained through life experiences and struggles.
The dancers' spiral is the Fibonacci spiral. It is found throughout nature and, put simply, represents our ever evolving journey in life.
    Carmen Terry said on 3/18/23
This Is Written On Jimin's Body text painting
Artist (German poet of literature) - Rainer Maria Rilke (1899)
title - I live my life in ever-widening circles...
I live my life in ever-widening circles
that stretch themselves out over all the things.
I won't, perhaps, complete the last one,
    but I intend on trying.

I circle around God, around the ancient tower,
    and I circle for thousands of years;
    and I don't know, yet: am I a falcon, a storm,
    or a mighty song.

Set Me Free Pt.2: It’s gonna be another long one. I’m going to explain some things in depth, so I’d be appreciative if you would at least read my entire statements before commenting. If you’re going to leave any hateful comments underneath my own, you will be removed.
Sometimes people need to understand purpose in things. Not every song is made to be a banger. Not every song is made to win awards. Not every song is made to please everyone.
Jimin clearly had something to say. Out of all BTS members he is by far the one who is CONSTANTLY shat on. CONSTANTLY. So yes, he had stuff to say and free himself from. You don’t like it? Cool, keep it moving. But he needed to set himself free, and that he did. You don’t like his use of opps (which I took as opinions, cool, keep it moving rather than assuming that the boy is just hurling up shit that is being given, on a person track, without at least looking it up (google is free). You don’t like his choice of clothing? Which was most likely made for him to PURPOSELY BLEND IN, so that he could FREE HIMSELF FROM IT... I don’t know, send in a complaint? You don’t like the choice of autotune? Because you want to hear his heartwarming vocals on a struggle song, a painful song, a song that sings about distress? Well then you are in the wrong place, keep it moving. In fact I’d give upon FACE all together if I were you, because it was actually quite clear, at least to me, that this is a very personal composition, in the same way that I was one of the few who felt that this was actually going to be a continuation of LIE, and he mixed two concepts together (title from SUGA [set me free] and song from JIMIN [lie]). But once again, this is his song, his story to tell, his album to share.
“I never stop, fuck all your opps” makes perfect sense in this song. It’s Jimin thinking back on what he used to tell himself all the time, ‘fuck all your opps’ meaning people that constantly hate on him or wish violence against him (death threats and s/a for example which happens constantly on the internet). ‘Opps’ in this sense means haters which can still be considered the opposition. If you pay attention, the lyric is in quotations while the following one, “finally free” isn’t. It’s him saying he no longer thinks like that. People are just trying to find anything to dislike with the song so ‘opps’ and the auto tune are the obvious choices. Coming back to say it also just… rhymes. If he said oppositions or even opinions instead of opps, it would sound stupid.
Yes that's right, I love this song. I love how it sounds, the auto tune reminds me of any of the songs Kanye made on "808s and Heartbreak" or "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", two of his best albums of all time imo. And he literally once again spits bars on this song.
Like Crazy: think it is about feeling lonliness during COVID and alcohol is common theme in most of the songs. He starts with Face off (best song in my opinion) where he is literally having a conversation with his reflection (which he finds has endless needs), next he used the track from the Busan concert in the Interlude which ends with him pouring hiimself a glass of booze (feels like he misses performing or people), and Like Crazy is the next track where he tries to forget about his lonliness with booze and ends the song with "what's the point", leading up to the next track where he still feels Alone and he asks all the negative thoughts in his head to f**k off in Set Me Free pt 2 (that's the last track). Love this EP! But why is it an EP, I want more!

It is also a big sad to Jimin when they separated each other with the members he cried a lot according to him. You saw his face of their anniversary last year. He tried to be happy in front of his members when they're together but when he is at his home alone he cried and drink. His latest interview, he is OK now and maybe little by little he adjusted BEING separated with the members.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction(Like Crazy), ty. Glad u like the song too. Loved Set Me Free pt.2. It's catchy. I love this one as well. He sounds so good. It's so catchy. Love the fit and visuals. Adore this 80s synth pop sound. So much hidden meaning in this. I was shocked by this MV. There is choreography, he performed it on Jimmy Fallon. =0) His album is about his feeling about the pandemic. So i try to see that in the songs. Him singing that he wants to be in the lights to me he is saying he wants to be on stage. Reading armies theories and more details from what Jimin has shared about this song I get a better understanding of what he is trying to say. Jimin is also too sexy in this. Gah. Brittany looks so pretty by the way. So glad u mentioned Felix I was so excited seeing that dance challenge from him. A collab would be awesome. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

    FACE album is about pandemic.
Like Crazy movie: about the toll of long distance r/s..
Like Crazy poster: alone slumped at home in the dark, water gushing, caving in..
is it about covid forcing jimin to be apart from the ones he loves?😭

loved your reaction as always! to give you some context, Jimin did say the song was inspired by the movie but he also added that it is a song that expresses the hurt after a breakup and the emotion of the moment when you try to run away from reality to forget your wounds... so you can see that he's drinking in the MV, saying he'd rather be "lost in the lights" instead of facing his reality, saying that he doesn't want to be saved, doesn’t want to be awake from this dream where everything's fine and he isn't hurt. also, I'm not sure if you noticed that the camera focused on a girl that's walking directly at him while he also walks directly at her and the theory is that she's his reflection/another part of himself that he didn't want to FACE and she's also the one who grabbed him at the beginning of the MV with the muddy hand and you can notice that at the end his own hand is muddy cause he and his reflection are finally one. :) he's a true artist and a genius.

Jimin said that the song 'like crazy' is a synthpop and explained that "it's a song that expresses the emotion of the moment when you run away from reality to forget your wounds"
He also said that the movie "like crazy" inspired him
I didn't watch the movie but I heard that the movie has a sad and realistic ending so actually the song 'like crazy' is NOT meant to mean anything sensual but actually something sad...I think a lot of people will probably misunderstand the song
The reason why there are couples kissing and stuff is because the movie is about a couple and I think the voices at the beginning and at the end are from the actual movie. This is the video where Jimin explained it said that: th-cam.com/video/7_kZ8TI-pds/w-d-xo.html

I saw a theory that the girl is like a representation of the softer, more feminine parts of himself. Her jacket is similar to the one he wears for the hardware version, her muddied hand pulls him into the club and then their actions mirror each other. When they finally face each other, Jimin facing himself, she disappears and Jimin's hand is now muddied, so it's implied he's finally accepted her and they've merged into one Jimin. I don't think it's a secret that Jimin has struggled with his softer side and earlier tried to mask it with hyper-masculinity. This song and album also make me think he tried to handle it with alcohol. So glad he has the members and people to support him and that he's in a better place now, when it comes to accepting himself. Such a beautiful person inside and out, he deserves the best things!
Edit: After seeing the choreography, I feel this theory is all but confirmed. With Jimin and one of the female dancers mirroring each other, then when she goes behind him back-to-back, it's like him incorporating her into himself.
    Jacqui Hicks said on 3/27/23
Written to show how he was feeling during the pandemic; knowing military enlistment would be breaking up the band sooner than later, and there's also a lot of Jung symbolism. Anima/animus - masculine/feminine the recognition and acceptance of your feminine/masculine side. That's all in this song and video as well. Thanks Knox as usual you show really good insight into BTS songs , music, words and flow. and I'm also loving 'Butterfly Effect'.
    Amaris said on 3/25/23
This song is so good! I do know that in an interview he was asked what dream he wanted to stay in forever in regards to this song and he said "It's BTS, frankly. I want to stay in this dream that is BTS for a long time." 😭 Keeping that in mind with the lyrics :
    This will break me
    This is gonna break me
    No don't you wake me
I wanna stay in this dream, don't save me
Don't you try to save me
    I need a way we
I need a way we can dream on
