WE FIT 3 MODS TO OUR CARAVAN TO HELP US STAY OFF GRID LONGER.
THE BIGGEST BEING THE WATER SAVER VALVE.
INVERTER - STARLINK - WATER SAVER VALVE.
WILL THE COFFEE MACHINE WORK?
DOES NIK BUY MORE DONUTS?
3 VERY EASY FIT OUTS THE WATER VALVE WAS THE QUICKEST.
AND THE EASIEST TOOK ABOUT 10 MINUTES.
SO GRAB A DRINK SIT BACK AND SEE IF IT ALL TURNS OUT.

Don't forget the red clips for the john guest fittings. Especially for the hot water side.

Great content. Love your new, and old van. Great idea with the water saving valve. I’ll put that on my to do list. How does the Star Link travel l? I’d be scared that wind or buffeting from the car or passing trucks would catch the satellite head and rip it off into oblivion…
We drove around Australia with it on the other van and it didn't move even towed the van to Cape York and back with it on there too.

if you want save all your water you need to fit one of those fittings at each hot water tap
Yes that is true but I'm happy to have the first 5 seconds of cold water in the shower.
It was the 3 ltrs you lose waiting for the hot water to come out of the hot water system I was trying to fix.

Dave I think your watersaver is a great idea but I have one question if you are staying in a van park for any length of time won't you have water overflowing out of your tank underneath your van ???
Yes that is true 👍 but usually by the time we hit the van park our tanks are nearly empty.
And we dont stay long at parks and we fill up just before we leave.
But you could run the hose longer and run it to a tree if you are there for a longer period.

I like the water saver idea but I'm not sure that we lose as much water with a storage (Truma) system. I understand the issue with water going back in to the main water tank being a problem if the tank is full but in a storage system, could the diverted water be sent to the inlet pipe of the hot water tank instead?

#1 best to measure how much water you waste first to see if it is worth doing.
#2 if your tank is full and you are pulling water from it to run the hot water putting it back into that tank until it is hot won't affect it because it is a continuous loop.
If you are pulling water from mains supply and your tank is full you need to make sure "like I have"
That you have an overflow set up on your tank.
#3 they recommend that you run the water back to a tank not to the hot water system.
Also I have all of my tanks linked together and you pull more out of your tanks than you put back in from the water saver valve.

@@daveniksadventures2255 great and clear answer, I was just about to ask about connecting to the tank drain plug. We have a direct mains connection and will definitely make sure there is room in the tank for the return water.

Good video. The water-saver valve is amazing.
Have you tested your system on mains? Test it I did not test mine and found out the hard way, I dont have hot water at all on mains 😂😂😂😂 will go check tomorrow what I did wrong.

We hardly go on mains i usually just fill up the tanks and use it from there.

😂😂😂you are one step ahead of me then well done. Not sure what I did wrong. At least you know it works and if you need it at least.
Where did you buy the water saver ?
Was it not possible to run the return water to the filler pipe ?
You can run it back into the filler pipe
I just know you can't plumb it back to the feed line the water comes from. I just used the drain tap because it was right there and its a one way valve so it wont feed back on its self once it is working.

Can see a small problem, the return line to tank? What happens when on mains pressure? Overfill tank or pressurize . Suppose when at CP on mains to have filler cap partly open.
Or have a drain tap back on and open as needed.
There is an over flow hose already installed on the van for this.

Did some research, can fit a diverter tap and pipe for when on mains.
But test our hws system, shower is 4 meters from hws and only used 900ml of water till water was hot.
Have good shower head and water saving restrictors.
Say the accumulator tank helps saving pump and water usage.
Hot water valve excellent- don’t know why they aren’t installed from factory!
Same but its an extra cost that most dont wanna pay I'd say.
But at least its an easy fix for anyone to do.

what about the water that is left in the pipe from previous use
Its the same as if you didn't have one installed it just stays in the pipe until the tap is turned on again.

I got it on line I just googled Enviro water saver valve and went straight to there page and ordered it.
Only took 3days to come from Brisbane to Mandurah.

It didnt on mine but you do need to remember that the cold water will be still put into which ever tank you run it to

Is there a reason you didn’t mount the starlink 90 degrease and not need the overhang of the fitting rails. Also what do you do with the coffee machine when travelling. Love following the journey. Cheers
We leave the Starlink there as we travel its not in the way and its one thing less to set up
I still would of had to make a bracket if i put it the other way and that would take up more of the wood box space.
It would also hit the van as it was spinning around to locate the satellites.
The coffee machine will be going in a square rubber bucket and it will be put on the floor of the shower while we travel.

Great work, is that valve just a tempering valve that you see in houses or is it a special unit strictly fir this purpose?
It can be used for both house and van i just googled hot water valve saver and 2 came up. One was the red water valve ( which is out of stock ) the other was the one I got the Enviro Water Saver Valve.
I tried to get it from local plumbing dealers but no luck.
So ordered it on line o ly took 3 days to come from Brisbane to Mandurah.

No it was already there its the drainer for the tank.

Get an ecocamel shower head, and you will have a better shower and save water. What happens to the water from the valve when you are on a different tank.......partially fill the tank the return line is attached to?? Don't suppose it matters that much, still saving water......
I would have used nutserts on the black shs's to hide the bolts, but that's just my ocd......
I dont run tanks separately nothing worst than half way through a shower and having to swap tanks.

I’ve plumbed the “not-yet-hot” water into black hose that fills up water tank using a “t” pipe irrigation joiner . Also I didn’t use garden hose but same cold water pipe as used on van
There are heaps of different ways to do it i just used what i had on hand and I doubled up the garden hose where it went through the chassis.

Hi Dave the water saver valve in the outlet of the hot water tank with water pump on, would that run continuously as there would be no water pressure at the tap, pressure would be deverted to the tank?
Look I'm not sure if you can run it back to the hot water system!
I just researched it and most people run it back to the tank. That way you aren't going against any water flows.
Its not hard to run back to the tank and that's where all the water comes from you won't over fill the tank because you ate pulling that same water from that tank.
The only time you could over fill the tank is if you are on mains water at a caravan park etc.
Just make sure you hook an overflow hose at the top out let of the tank you put the cold water back into.
That is the simplest way to do it. And that is the way they suggest to install it too.
I can only go by the way I've done it and it works. I don't want to say it can be done any other way because I haven't tried it and don't want to give the wrong advice.

Thanks for your reply Dave, I've just fitted one to my urban i think the same way yours is fitted, turned the pump on and It runs continuously transferring water to the tank . I've fitted it into the white hose comming out of the hot water system just before the kitchen sink?

To make it work to its best you really need one at each tap but that's too expensive.
It works fine for us the way I fitted it you still lose a little bit of cold water but no where near as much as you do without it.
