I remember hearing the demo for Chapel of Ghouls in 1987-88 on a local RI college radio show and thinking; " these guys are gonna be MASSIVE" AND THEY WERE
No metronome, no triggered bass drums. Incredible. In fact, Pete Sandoval couldn't play double bass before this album (Terrorizer was more Hardcore), Dave Vincent hadn't really done vocals before either. This is rage of the raw.
@@Vorse_Raider Still the best osdm album of the 80s, destroys Consuming impulse in terms of musicmanship if you want to imply something like that is superior
@@derekobs9688 Since when did musicianship mean anything in OSDM? Most prog and tech bands have more musicianship than this, doesn't change the fact that this (and Consuming Impulse) is still way better.
I agree that it's one of their very best but some of their stuff on Blessed, Covenant, FFTTF, GTA is also pretty fucking great. "Secured Limitations", "Summoning Redemption" are one of my favorite MA tracks.
i randomly sat behind these guys on a plane from NY to Amsterdam in 1995. They snuck a case of Budweiser on the plane and were reading HUSTLER mags like they were the NY times. Good Times 🤘🤘🤘
The first MA tune I ever heard - Hail Satan to Earache records and their budget prices samplers back in the 80s 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻 Would love Ghost to cover this... 💀
I love Morbid Angel, but in my 40's I can't help to feel this is shit an angry edgy teenager would write. I just can't take it seriously like I used to 20+ years ago anymore. They are a kickass band still though. Still listening to them every now and then, even if some of the lyrics make me chuckle a bit.
''Full dynamic range" means this wasn't compressed to oblivion during the mastering phase, unlike some of the later CD remasters. In other words it's higher fidelity.
From 1989 to 2019 this still holds up 30 years later.

For Pete only having been doing double bass for like a month recording this in 1989 he's pretty damn good
No metronome, no triggered bass drums. Incredible. In fact, Pete Sandoval couldn't play double bass before this album (Terrorizer was more Hardcore), Dave Vincent hadn't really done vocals before either. This is rage of the raw.
The bass drums are absolutely triggered. The only reason people dislike triggered drums is when the sample played sounds like shit. These sound fine.

This album was a timeless masterpiece and the best of all their albums.

The best snare ever recorded.
Louder, crunchier and tighter!
This is perfection

Fuck yeah… best part of the song
Greatest track from Morbid Angel, they never came to this much close to perfection in any other songs
Even the name of the song is perfect

@@Annihilation_0f_The_Wicked9066 For 1989 it cant get better than this for osdm, no other album even comes close
You should change that third rate Autopsy DP with this as this album from 89 as it mercilessly butchers it in terms of musicmanship and songwriting
This album, Deicides debut and Immolations Dawn of Possession were enough to cleanse your wicked soul of Jesus back in the day.
Lmao I love all those
This piece of music does never die.
Rest in piece Richard.
If some of the most evil and wicked demons from hell formed a band, it would be these guys! \M/
