Great video! Your “guest stars” were very well spoken and explained their thought processes, which helped me better understand the mechanics. AEG just got another purchase from me for this game.

Just finished watching, it was a good play through. I though Paul, had got the game at the mid point then was surprised as it started swinging to Marks advantage. I also like that the drums of war could be heard quite loudly at various points ;-) I'm really looking forward to this being released.
Thank you for taking the time experimenting with new ideas. I like the video, but I must say I don't like the idea of teach and play. It doesn't work for me, but of course that doesn't mean others don't love it. I prefer having the usual rules videos, as well as complete playthrough videos - or edited playthroughs where you cut out a few boring rounds maybe to focus on interesting parts of the game or interesting rules examples. Anyway, please keep going. I still love your videos.

27:15 after black player use pike man token to attack (lower chance of black player having another pikeman in his hand) and yellow has 2 scout tokens, why don't yellow player just use 1 scout token to move to neutral place, so next turn yellow can control that spot with another scout token in his hand?

Have you played The Duke from Catalyst Games or Onitami? How does this compare? At first glance it kind of reminded me of Hoplomachus, but plays very different. Hoplo is awesome
I've played the Duke twice. I really liked it, but there was an issue I think with having to remember what was on the other side of the tiles. Onitama is also great, very simple, very clever. This is more complex than Onitama and with far more options, so a deeper game. Out of the 3, I prefer this one, easily.
Too add another voice, I was lucky enough to get to play War Chest at Manorcon courtesy of Paul. It did remind me a bit of The Duke, mainly that you are drawing tiles from a bag, the game plays quite differently but is chess like with a bit of randomness. I really like both games and will be getting War Chest when it is released.
I honestly thought this would be a problem as soon as I started playing my first game. I’ve now played it lots and it isn’t a problem, you just know :)
Bill Buchanan I agree. I will be speaking to AEG about this at Gen Con for suggestions for future printings. Also, the control points on the board need to be outlined so that you can see which ones are control points.
A 40th birthday present. They are my Mahjongg trays, but probably from scrabble. They were a bit too long for this and could do with grooves cut for the coins to go in.
Played at GenCon, twice. Both times the game was fun until you reach the end game and it gets a bid awkward. One side will eventually just sputter out by running out of pieces. Some weird things happen such as you accidentally bolster a unit not realizing you only had two tokens left, so that means the unit is marooned on his space for the rest of the game. I'm wondering how the game would play if instead of removing killed pieces from the game you simply put them back on their cards to be recruited again.
I prefer your more structured tutorials. This one felt so unorganized. I feel like every time it was Mark's turn it would be like, "On your turn you can do 3 things. " But you only tell him one thing. Or Mark moves a piece, then afterwards you say "Oh by the way I didn't mention this earlier but" ... then proceed to tell him an important rule, like explaining the iconography of the unit cards midway through the game. If you could better structure the teaching to be more like your regular tutorials and not so unorganized I feel like it would be much improved. Otherwise, keep up the great work.
Yep. My commissioned videos are professionally created and take me about 2-3 days to script. This was done mainly just as an experiment, I hadn’t planned it and had to take 2 days out from my paid job to create it. This wasn’t a commissioned piece of work. if I do more of these in future, I will aim to definitely structure them more, I really want to do more like this (better quality) but they still take a long time to put together.

10:42 - no, you can not move 2 spaces with Calvary unless you use its tactic, can you?
Correct. And that is what Mark did. He discarded a Light Cavalry tile to activate the tactic of the piece and move it 2 spaces.

Yea, this is a traditionally published (ie, no Kickstarter) game from AEG. Pre-releases at Gen Con, widely available at the end of August.
Paul - happen to recall where your wooden "tile racks" came from?

How does one keep track of their own pieces on the board? Could you get confused as to which ones are your pieces?

Makes sense actually... you'd be likely to orient your own chips in a direction, versus how your opponent does it. I am quite intrigued with this one.
