    Stunning to me that in 2022, this 2007 IS 250 is difficult to pinpoint it's age while driving down the road. In addition to reliability, Lexus's have built models that seem ageless.

      Except for the spindle grille Lexus hasn't evolved much, which isn't a bad thing. They've made a corporate look like Mazda did and have stuck to it. They also run really long generations. The current one came out in 2013 and looks like a refreshed generation of this.

    Solid review overall. Couple things you may have missed/forgot since I own a 2011 is250 awd - the centre console has a cup holder adjustable piece so you can fit bigger drinks, the is350 is also a middle option with more power rather than jumping to an isF. 101k miles on mine and running mint

      There aren't any ports for back seats. You need a USB multiport located in the front to support backseat passengers. Also I fill the car up all the time. I'm only 5'8" and I have to scoot my seat up till my knees touch the lower dash. If I could I'd only have 2 to 3 people in the car 4 is too much for this unfortunately 😔

RWD on the 350 but I’ll just be a bit more careful in the winter ;)

    As someone with a 2IS 250 Manual transmission SE-L I can say that in the UK the “All Auto” label does not exist, the screen is flanked with buttons so if the screen does go belly up you can still change the temperature,AC and all audio settings. For cup holders standard cans will fit in the cup holder and in the cup holder in the armrest storage (which is oddly heated or cooled depending on your climate settings). Also the door bins open up to store big bottles… The manual transmission is great fun to drive especially when TC is off. You failed to showcase the colour change on the tach and speedo nor did you mention how the engine sounds especially when VVT-i kicks in at 4000 RPM. Just because the engine is not a 2JZ does not mean its not a tuner car… the 4GR-FSE engine is a great engine that when supercharged can easily reach 400BHP at the wheel. Yes the car is smaller as its a Sports Sedan with sprinklings of luxury throughout.

  • @sentiencepsn2714
    @sentiencepsn2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That’s a really nice interior. Yeah, the lack of a screen is a giveaway that this is a pre-2010’s product, but there’s an inherent timelessness in the interior lines and black on tan on wood which scream classic luxury.

      Consider that this was one of the least expensive Lexus models when it was originally sold new. More expensive models had a touchscreen, but even those show the age of the car.

    Imagine if Lexus had built up their F division to compete with BMW M. With a little more power this 250 could be a more reliable 325i and the IS-F could be chasing M3s. Toyota can build sports cars when they want to, imagine if they'd thrown some engineers and a lot of marketing money at the IS line. Lexus could have added performance to their image.

    • @damilolaakanni
      @damilolaakanni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unfortunately this is the IS you want to avoid. I mean the 250. It's known to be underpowered, and since it was a direct injection only engine, carbon build ups were pretty common with this. The 350 was (and arguably still is) the one to have.

    • @therealsnoop7497
      @therealsnoop7497 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@damilolaakanni, as someone who owns one here are things to note. The “underpowered” engine is kinda true, it’s not too quick, but what it is is zippy, fun, and Rev happy. It still throws you back in the seat and is still a really fun car to drive especially if you don’t want to fork up the money for a 350. The carbon buildup is also way overplayed as even with that it still costs way less to maintain than a Mercedes or a bmw.

    As someone that owns and daily drives a first gen IS300, I have always kind of wondered what the newer generations were like. All of the differences, and subtle similarities were kind of neat to see. I definitely wish that Lexus emphasized the IS's Japanese tuner heritage a little more, but its by no means a bad car.
    I think a lot of it had to do with the Lexus brand as a whole entering the Japanese market in the mid 2000s. While the fist gen IS was in production, Lexus didn't exist in japan. Over there, the IS existed as the Toyota Altezza, which was a lot more in line with the JDM sports cars of the late 90s. Of course, the Altezza was dropped in favor of Lexus coming to Japan, in which the IS took the full role for this platform. But, with that, it lost a lot of the personality and fun that came with it.
    It would be so cool if GR were to do something with the Lexus brand, but I think GR is pretty contempt with their current lineup.

    Manual transmissions are being less popular these days. Take the Toyota Corolla, where manual is only offered on the SE trim, so it can be difficult to find a manual Corolla. CVTs are now standard on Toyota's and Lexus's.
