    Bought a 24 ft ladder at yard sale for $40. and it didn't have the rope or pulley. I was told it was in fine working order!!! Thanks to you I figured out I needed a pulley and rope and now I will have a good working ladder.

    Thank You for this video! I went to several websites and they explained in words, but with-out pics. I just couldn't picture it in my mind. After watching this I completely understand how to do it. Again Thanx... (I bought the ladder used in good shape but with-out the rope attached, so I couldn't just replace by how it was attached previously)

    good video- concise, to the point, with good information...many sites list this rope as a no rot description, which is obviously incorrect, as you have shown...however it is polypropylene, not nylon; much less expensive than a nylon product as well as having less strength.. been a contractor for 30 years and i plain old forgot how the rope went! thanks again

    Braided hollow poly rope is best secured using a fid. [Water ski tow ropes have typically been secured to boats this way for decades] The fid is a plastic tube about two inches long that is closed and pointed on one end. The end of the rope is pushed into the hollow end of the fid and the pointed end of the fid leads the rope (like a sewing needle) back into the same rope to create a closed loop by poking the fid between the strand of the braid into the center of the rope, up through the interior of the hollow rope and then back out again, two or three times. Then when the rope is pulled upon the tension shrinks the outer rope and constricts the rope within (kind of like the little braided bamboo toy called Chinese thumb-locks. SInging the freshly cut rope end is helpful and when the poly is still very soft from having just reached the melting point it can be pressed and rolled into a tighter, conical end which is easier for tying and threading and last longer than electrical tape. Actual knots often present pressure points that lessen the breaking strength of the rope at such points, fidded connections do not present that problem.

      Yeah, I don't like the knots as they are too bulky but I felt like I had to do something. Anyhow, it ahs always worked out fine as long as I don't make it too big.

    Couldn’t you string the new rope before removing the old rope? Then do the knots after removing the old rope?

    • @PlanetJimmer
      @PlanetJimmer ปีที่แล้ว

      It would get pretty crowded in that pully. Once you know how it is done just duplicate it.

    • @paulredinger5830

      @@PlanetJimmer I didn’t mean the pulley I meant through the ladder rungs.

    • @PlanetJimmer
      @PlanetJimmer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulredinger5830 well, sure, and I think what you are getting at is “why does anyone need this video because you can just run a new rope through first. Sometimes the rope breaks or you get an old ladder that is missing a rope so having a video that shows you how to do this is beneficial.

    Hardest part was tying the knots. Kinda wish they would have shown that better rather than a notice at end of vid to watch another vid. Constructive comment meant. Thanks for the upload.

    my neighbour bought one with the pivot fixed at top of ladder same place as pulley. Head scratched until saw this and had to drill out all the rivets and rebuild the assembly

    Thanks Cowpaddy Highjumper ! Was scratching my head for EONS , before I came across your video, {other vid's had it wrong},
    TIP: use a lighter to melt a big ball on the end of the nylon rope, no tape necessary that way, BTW--- when you gonna show how to high jump a Cowpaddy ? LOL ! Thx again !

  • @John01GM40

    err, ok this video is a variation on a theme.
    Personally I would always melt the ends of nylon rope instead of (or as well as) taping it.
    Tying it off as a permanent "continuous" loop is a logical step.

    • @Airborne2024
      @Airborne2024  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I don't really like the knows either. I do have to say - I have stopped using those nylon ropes as they break down in the sun fairly quickly. Of course, I store mine outside, otherwise, it wouldn't be a big deal. Those cotton ropes last longer and just fell better.

    I'm pretty sure that's polypropylene rope, not nylon.
