I felt like I wasn't very smart , looking this up. Actually found this video to be informative. TY
This was a terrific video - clear and easy to follow. I had to replace the rope on my extension ladder, so it was great to have this as a resource. I was able to get all of the material I needed at the hardware store to do the job, and finished the project in less than 15 minutes.
Thank you. My stock rope snapped other day while extending, was on last rung and it snapped , ladder came down super fast I’m amazed nothing bad actually occurred.
Thanks for the detailed video. Ignore those saying too much info or too long.
Be safe out there.
Exactly what I needed, thank you. This is the best ladder rope tutorial on youtube.
Thank you!! My rope disintegrated and I needed to route a new one. You covered all aspects of the job clearly, and I appreciate it.
Followed your suggestions to the letter. Same exact rope/clamps at HD. Now I have a ladder with a great rope that should last for years! Thanks so much!!!
I re-roped my ladder today using this video... very helpful, thank you!
Thanks, Chris! I was getting set to play Suzy Homemaker when the rope on my 24' extension ladder broke. Project delayed, but not denied. So good to know the fix is both simple and something a non-professional can do!
Thanks for watching Beth!
Excellent video Chris, extremely well presented and I learnt quite a bit from that. For you so simple yet you took time out to help others. Good on you. Thanks a million.
Roy
Just what I needed, too! Clear. Precise. And, I appreciate knowing WHAT I need before I start! I have an old ladder that I haven't used in over 8 years. It's a good ladder but the rope has rotted. I actually used it for the first time in a long time to clean the gutters this spring! Next project: Paint the house! I need my ladder.
Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Re-Roped my 24 ft aluminum extension ladder today. Wasn't very difficult, but could have been more difficult without your instructional video. Thanks!
Thank you, Boss. With your help, I got my 20 years old werner 1120 ladder re-roped.
great tutorial, its one of those things you dont really take notice of , thanks for taking the time to post . hi from australia
Thanks for the lesson. This operation can be very confusing when you don’t know how (the old me), but so easy when carefully explained (to the new me).
Thank you for posting this. My dad, (77) has never used the pulley and wanted help figuring it out. I had no clue so I found this. Very helpful.
Glad I could help
Terrific video - easy to understand. Nice to use the clamps vs. learning new knots. Thanks...about to go to HD now as my ladder came out of storage minus one rope. Great vid.
Thank you for this!!! I was panicking -- I have to learn to tie a bowline to restring my ladder? Nope -- get a rope clamp!!! Just subscribed to your site. I look forward to learning how to deal with projects around the home and appreciate you sharing :)
This is the best I've seen so far as to how to replace the rope on a ladder. Others have you going around the bottom rung of the stationary part back to the bottom rung of the moving part. This looks like it would wear out the rope as there is no pulley on the bottom rung. Thanks for this great video from somebody who used his ladders on a daily basis. Keep up the good work!
I do not use my 24-foot ladder much but finally the rope broke luckily after I locked my ladder. Then I found this video to fix the original cheap rope. Thank for posting this video.
Good video! I also use a cable tie on each end so it holds the rope in the middle of the rung. That way the rope can't slide from side to side on the rung and get tangled in your feet. Good job!
Seems like a great idea,thanks.
Nicely presented vid. Now if only all instructional videos on TH-cam were as detailed as this one. I have to replace my rope that went missing when I loaned the ladder out
Thanks! Im a single woman home owner. My rope on my ladder deteriorated last summer and came apart and didn’t even know how to fix it. Now I can! Thanks a bunch!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Most helpful I have just bought a secondhand ladder I'm restoring it as it was in poor condition without a rope or pulley at the top and I had no clue as to how to attach the rope. Thanks once again
Thanks for watching, we appreciate the support!
Great video. I just installed a new rope and pulley to my extension ladder thanks to your video!
Nice
Thank you for this video. I watched it to replace a rope on a ladder today. Very good instructional video.
Wonderful video .. thank you very much! I had re-rope a ladder.. You are a good teacher with very thorough and complete instructions.. My fault for securing the rope on the wrong section of ladder.. lol.. but I got it correct.. Thanks again! :)
Cool, simple and straightforward. Thanks for introducing rope clamp.
Thanks for loading this demonstration. I just bought a extension ladder.
Thanks. Really good explanation, a rarity. One day someone will study how many injuries are prevented by clear instructions and safety practices from the web vids. Many of yours will make the list.
Thank you we were trying to reroute a ladder. Thanks for the straight forward explanation
Hey brotha! Been a fan for years. and your videos have helped make me money and learn a ton. I appreciate ya Chris, real talk.
On the note of this video, I was searching for rope and it just popped up on Google. I didn't see it was by you, until your face showed up. A pleasant surprise.
So to add to reasons why its a good idea to replace ropes when they start to fray, and the reason I am here in the comments is the following:
Once the ropes start to fray they lose their a bit of their working load limit, and if you have a 26' fiberglass ladder that is 3/4 of the way extended, you don't want that dang rope snapping and the ladder crushing your hand. Ask me how I know...
Keep it up man, and y'all keep on keepin on!
Thanks for this video. I needed to replace my rope and this handy video popped up. Pretty much followed it to the T.
Thanks! I borrowed someone's ladder and broke the old, sun-damaged rope. I needed to know how to fix it and this did the trick.
Excellent instructional video, just put put the rope and pulley on, which the ladder never had in the first place, made life easier.
Thank you.
Dave (England)
Great video on re-roping a ladder...probably the best on TH-cam. I've used your method w/no issues at all. Do you have any videos on replacing or repairing the ladder locks or pulleys? Would be helpful. Thanks again.
I just restrung my ladder today (did it wrong so I get to do it again tomorrow). Thanks for the video.
If you dont have a rope clamp, a simple square knot will do the trick. (right over left, then left over right)
Thanks a lot. Just tried to re-thread, no sale. Wondered if anyone else had same problem. Googled, and there you were. Using a fiberglass Werner, may switch to aluminum (gettin' old).
Excellent video, now I know what I was doing wrong! Very clear and conscientious! Well done!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks to your video I was able to add the rope to my 24 foot ladder. A big thanks to you.
Awesome, glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Great video, super helpful. I actually used PMI E-Z Bend Sport 11mm Non-Dry Static Rope, sold by the foot at REI. Slightly thicker than the 3/8” rope in the video, but fits through the pulley on a Werner ladder with no problem. 30 feet was more than enough to do a 24’ ladder.
Nice
Thanks for taking time to explain. Very clear and helpful.
Zeer vakkundig en geduldig uitgelegd. Het lijkt simpel als je het zo ziet. Heel veel dank vanuit Belgium.
Clear instructions. I opted to loop it to the bottom rung. Only issue I had was the rope stretches. Perhaps because my ladder is a 40’ and heavier? Will try with a different type of rope and see if that works better…
Thanks for the info. Going out to do mine now.
Thank you sir I just got mine done by following you techniques thank you again
Excellent tutorial to re-rope an extension ladder. Thanks.
Good to know the proper way. Thanks for this great video you made.
Thank you that was so easy to follow after watching the video I went to the hardware store and install the rope it was missing.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Really useful.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks so much. Wish I would have done this years ago. Keep up the great work. Appreciate it.
Thanks for mentioning that there is more than one way to attach or not attach the rope. Other videos only mention the method the presenter likes or knows.
Very helpful video. Got my rope swapped out thanks 🙏🏾
Thanks for the video. Hope it is as easy as you make it look.
Your video are the best hands down I learned so much from them them keep them coming.
What an awesome guidance on the topic. You Sir Rock!
Great vid it helped ladder works great now I was having problems with my ladder I bought new because the had the loop on wrong side it wasn't hooked up on bottom rung of ladder that needs to go up but works now love ladder now
great video with excellent step by step (excuse the pun) directions - Many Thanks
What do you do if your ladder has no pulley ?
@アシュリー thanks
Yes. Excellent tutorial. Thanks.
Thank you for showing us how to restring an extension ladder! When you are ready to move a ladder, you should try “Ladder Mover” for the easiest way to move any size and type of ladder. Thanks for posting!
Excellent instructions. Well done!
This was great until the second end was attached. I attach the second end back to the bottom rung. Otherwise rope piles up at the bottom of the ladder creating a safety hazard. Both ends of the rope should be attached to the same bottom rung.
Exactly!
Good stuff! Thanks for the additional know-how.
Real good and clearly explained, thank you.
If both ends of the rope are connected to the same ladder wrong then doesn’t that essentially lock the ladder in the closed position and allow no travel of any of the parts including the rope??😊
Excellent, easy and well explained
Thanks bud
I put the rope away in storage to avoid damage since my ladder stay outside expose to the environment. I couldn't remember how to be installed back; thank you for your tutorial, save me a headache.
Thank-you for this video...good job!
This was great. Thank you!
I learned how to re-rope, what rope clamps are, and generally dig the info. Thanks for the help
Glad I could help!
I've been wanting to do this, thanks for the video!
Great video. Just what I needed. Thanks bud!
Great job Chris! Thank you for posting this.

The rope clamps, great idea!
Nice instructional video. I just bought a used 24' extension ladder thats missing the rope so I am glad I found your video to re-rope it. It also doesn't have the pulley, are those available to purchase separately? Thanks again.
Thanks from Canada!
