For those commenting on his shifting - driving a racecar on the street is extremely difficult because of gearing and drivability of the clutch. Not to mention, older racecars like this simply didn't have synchros, meaning it doesn't shift nearly as smooth as it's modern synchronous counterparts. Give the man some credit for even being brave enough to take the car on public roads
No sychro means that you cannot just put it into a higer or lower gear at any moments, you have to match the revs of the engine with the speed of the gearbox. Great video !
to say, the clutch, the agressive cams,gears without syncros and long gears ratios makes its suffering to drive, i belive in lower than 3krpm this has no power to drive normally, without talk about the tiltings his gave to the driver on the video first parts haha, thats more like when u start to pull and get the feeling and u see youre 2nd gear almost at 200 can be terrifying if you dont know what youre doing

And you can sense the guy driving it got way too used to automatics. This gearbox just begs to be played with - 2-3-4-3-2-3-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-3 instead of keeping it in 3rd for the majority of time.
not saying he‘s an expert with dog-boxes, but you underestimate the gearing. from comments of other people who drove the f40 lm, it seems that first gear idles at around 60kmh (thats why it keeps pushing and shuddering at low speed). so imagine what speed 3rd will be. i highly doubt you can use 4th anywhere out of a track or german highway.

@@gregstop8259 i mean that you clearly can't compare what speed you reach in low RPM second gear in any "normal old car" and a f40 LM. i'm 99% sure you can't stroll around in second or 3rd in a f40LM like he does. put short (my point in the first post): it might look like he is in too high gear, but im pretty sure he is simply limited by to tall gears and a demanding dog box in a car that is not meant to stroll around mountain passes. Try a normal 964 up a swiss mountain pass and you'll notice 2nd gear is too long, 1st gear is too short. so even "normal" road cars can be a bit limited under those conditions.

What the hell is going on at 4:50. C'mon. Who gave an F40 to someone who literally doesn't know how to drive manual fully? If the box is un-synchronized (I assume its not), you have to double-clutch the downshifts. FFS.
He knows how to drive it haha. The problem was that it didn't have the right rpm to go into gear I think. The engine and gearbox weren't really up to the right temp either.
@@theowild9532 he's struggling like you wouldn't believe, you can tell the whole time he's avoiding downshifts as he can't rev match correctly. One minute it's revving it's ring out, the next second he's laboring the hell out of it and burning out the clutch. Beautiful machine, but Gawd damn...The driving...

Looks like this was just a regular outing on a normal day with traffic because he's adhering to the speed limits, never crossing the solid white line etc. and there's oncoming traffic. Not a hill climb or a race event. At the end when stopped he's telling the girl traffic marshal in Swiss German that he's not getting enough air (for cooling I assume).

This car is not suitable for "non drivers" You need to "heel and toe" technic to downshifting... This is street legal racing car so it needs race driver behind the wheel
Oh my gosh, Never handle the car to him again. Absolutely no knowledge of heel and toe. Not any feeling for the gearbox.....Pushing the accelerator in neutral is his favorite job 🤦🏻♂️
That poor F40 has to strugle constantly with to low revs , like driving with the handbrake on . You can hear it wants to be unleashed on something like the Mulsane Strait .
Il devrait prendre des cours avec Jacques Laffite.. Utiliser une voiture de course XXL COMME CELLE-CI = 690ch voire plus dans des lacets de montagne c'est idiot. Elle est est faite pour aller dans les tours pas pour agoniser... Et avec un conducteur et non un pilote c'est terrible.. L'essai de Jacques Laffite de dette même voiture sur le circuit du clos du Lac en Auvergne ça ça a de la gueule..
