He did well for being an outsider to musical theater. I agree with the comment that he would have gotten better had he had more time with the role. Each role is a little like a best friend; The longer you spend with them the better you know them, and love them. I think he just needed a few more acting classes and a chance to relate to Dimitri more.
thing is...(as a vocal coach I must say) if he hadn't tried to adapt stylistically, people would have ripped him a new one for sounding to "pop/boyband-ish". Yes, he clearly isn't familiar enough with the more classical/mt vowels for it to sound natural yet. I absolutely agree. He's still trying too much but at least he is trying. If he had had more time with the role that surely would have changed- he seems focused and clearly talented enough.
I think his acting is a little to much that it feels forced. I can feel the awkwardness. But Derek Klena had that clear natural sense that it felt so real
He did a pretty good job considering that he doesn't come from a musical theatre background. I still love Derek's performance though
My exact thought. But honestly, I’m glad he made it his own, performance wise. That’s the fun part of live theatre, you know?
He sings Broadway so well! Omg I’m in love! 😍
Can’t believe this bloke is about to represent Australia in swimming later this year. Wild!
Wow his voice has matured and become so beautiful
i full on watched the entire performance (plus an interview) but it wasn't until this video that i realized this is Cody Simpson Cody Simpson
Cody is so underrated. Love this
Damn, it’s hard to believe he was a pop singer doing iYiYi and then pulled this out of nowhere on Broadway. Superb job, Cody!
When you just want Derek back..😢
Cody you are good at playing Dimitri and Christy Altomare you are good at playing Anya in the show
Well done
He does well vocally, even though it’s a lower key and he said that opening line kinda funky, he makes a good dimitry.
do you have full slime?
i have this one lol
@@sungjinlui3972 do you have google drive?
Cody is underrated
Wow
Better then Cameron

If I were the Dowager Empress I want you to be Anastasia
It sounds so different hearing a baritone, not bad though!
his acting is so bad it's physically painful
He is trying TOO HARD>> It is almost PAINFUL.. Just sing. He is trying to form his sound too much. Just sing..
THANK YOU

I actually find his acting esp. his body language more troublesome. It's super wooden
He just is very clearly uncomfortable. Like...he really is TRYING but I just cannot seem to suspend my disbelief. Its...distracting.
