I am 95 years old and have listened to more than 30 versions of this Sidney Bechet classic and have concluded that this is the finest version I've heard. Thank you Ewan!
Now 96 and still appreciate Ewan's playing this great classic.iPlan to celebrate my 100th birthday by playing it yet again for all friends and family!!
At 94 I am listening during Covid lockdown and find I can forget the misery and really appreciate Ewan on the clarinet playing this classic so smoothly . I play it every day !!
There are plenty of clarinet players and many of them can really play, but Ewan is in a class of his own. Tuba Skinny took a hit when he left. He's even matched Sidney's vibrato! No other Player I've heard, has done that. I sincerely appreciate this man's talent and skill.

I am only 82, a former mediocre player until my left pinky went 'DUPREY' on me. But in-DEED, Ewan made me cry with his simplicity and feeling! Speed isn't the Heart! He played from the heart!
Been following Ewen for about 6 or 7 years on both sides of the Atlantic. This track confirms that he is among the finest of the swing jazz people currently on the scene anywhere. If we can get past covid a bit maybe some concert tours may be in the works. Bravo Ewen!
I really think is the very best arrangement of this beautiful song on TH-cam. Or any other format. Ewan is so smooth I could listen to him all day. I also miss him with Tuba Skinny. What a great entertainer. Someday I hope to see him live.
Si tu vois ma mere! One of Sidney Bechet's timeless classics. Boy, could that man write a tune. I know he's a hero in France but should have much wider world wide recognition. Mr. Bleach captures Sidney's spirit flawlessly
This is the most Beautiful Tune My Late Mom loved it whilst cooking she would Whistle this tune Thanks Mr Bleach & Thank you Murielle Weston - Duval for kindly sharing
Love this version thank you for giving me great enjoyment I am 83 years by old and remember dancing very slowly too this with my ex husband many many years ago
I also love his soprano sax version-both are superb, a rare talent indeed to get such feeling into his playing. At 85 plus, I grew up with this music, played by the best. Ewan is up there with the top few, I keep coming back to his presentation, both on clarinet and soprano sax, which I also like very much. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 🎼👍😁🇦🇺
This man & clarinettist is absolutely BRILLIANT & BEAUTIFUL now i am a huge fan as i am of the brilliance of many more eg--- ACKER BILK-- BENNY GOODMAN. This beautiful sound is coming from a BRILLIANT CLARINETTIST == LOVE IT.🎵🎶🎼🎸🎹
I never dared to play this on clarinet as I thought I would not be able to come close to that brilliant, "torch song"-like soprano sax sound of Bechet. But Mr. Bleach has a totally different idea how to interpret this beautiful song - romantic and tender. Gorgeous!
MrJimmienoone With all sincerity.... And with love.... Stop being a bitch. - If you can play this song, do what is necessary to grow your soul. Then play it with soul. Mean it. And then you’ve lived a little bit. YOLO. For real. - Best of luck. ❤️
Probably one of the finest tributes to Sidney Bechet,s very beautiful ode to his Mother, and even my wife,Bernadette,is totally knocked out by this recording-4 stars
Sublime, the best version I’ve ever heard, it pulls at my heart strings. He is a fine musician who feels every note he plays. Just wonderful to listen to. Judith
First class musicianship from Ewan Bleach and his fellow musicians, what a tear jerker or a tune, every note crafted to give this beautiful performance. I also listen to Ewan's Sunday Serenade every Sunday evening 20:00hrs- 22:00 GMT on live on You Tube.
Love from Mary Auckland New Zealand. Some of us have dreams & others goals. My dream & goal would be to give you the biggest hug. Thank you for this piece.
Very nice tone that he gets from what looks like a very old vintage clarinet. He has a mastery of playing softly while getting a lot of subtle articulation and voicing effects that harken back to another era.
i started when I was 12 and im 51 now...good luck 😉look up a word called "Embouchure"...takes a few years to get it right, then you can start working on "tone" never mind learning how to read music properly otherwise its a waste of time...this guy is a genius and he's probably been playing music since he was in primary school
me too! He is great. Nice to see that he is active though. Just have to keep following him. Tuba Skinny is a great band for him though. Wish he would be back there.
Music as a new way of living since it gives me a different perspective of life. I'm just learning to play alto sax and would love to play jazz. This master piece helps me want to go for more practice in order to enjoy even more music and life itself. Greetings from Mexico.
