    nice video. I like when people make videos and make little mistakes and can joke about it. like running the bike in the shop. it's not easy to do work and film it and then put it out there for people to see it. good job I appriciate it.

    2 stroke transmission oil is oil for the gears only. And doesn’t get as hot because it’s not lubing the combustion.

      Thanks for the info!

  • @Myksgarage
    @Myksgarage 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The oil looks clean and is not warm because it’s there to lubricate the transmission and gears.

    • @KMLTimesTwo

      I usually do not warm my engines prior to changing oil. We are in a pretty warm climate, so never felt the need. Thanks for comment.

      @idunno1684 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KMLTimesTwo the oil wasn't warm, because you just had it idling - the transmission was doing nothing the whole time, hence the oil never got warm.

    • @neelybourqueorr
      @neelybourqueorr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      idunno1684 this video is misleading many people I’m sure lmao. I don’t think he truly understands...or maybe just using wrong terminology, but yes very un-informative!

    • @KMLTimesTwo
      @KMLTimesTwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neelybourqueorr Not sure how I am misleading people, but I am certainly open to learning more. So please let me know where I am off. Since you posted under this comment, I assume you have an issue with my description of the oil as "clean and warm." So, if that is it, I think I am using "good" terminology here. If you know a lot about dirt bikes, clearly this wasn't the video for you. I've turned a few wrenches on bikes over the years and thought this would be helpful to a parent (inexperienced with dirt bikes.) Again, I am interested in feedback on how better to inform. Maybe I can update the vid.
      Temp - First, yes while it idling and not moving on it's wheels and the transmission being a heat source of the oil.....it is attached to a cylinder that is hot. Heat transfers and at some point will increase the temperature of the oil. There is also a moving crank and parts in the oil, etc. So the goal was to increase temperature of oil in increase viscosity and have it better drain out. So is your point that it will never get hot unless you are moving? That it should or shouldn't be hot?
      Clean oil - Regarding the "looking clean" comment. My comment meant that I was expecting dirty oil and the oil probably didn't need to be changed. That said, I didn't know what previous owner put in there. Other than that, I am not sure of the this issue here. Are you suggesting that it will always look like that? Oil break down over time, gears wear and clutch material gets added to the oil over time and it will not look clean.

    • @zachd991
      @zachd991 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KMLTimesTwo the crank is not associated with this oil. The oil injection lubes the top and bottom end. Same as the premix lubing top end and crank on their mx 2 -strokes. This oil is just transmission. I enjoyed the vid!

      I would avoid auto motor oils. Years ago, I would use valvoline in my yz250 but you really should use oil made for bikes. I would recommend Maxima oils.

      Rotella t3 15-40 is for wet clutch

  • @hiredexpectations9037
    @hiredexpectations9037 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You do realize that since that bike is a two stroke, your not changing engine oil, your changing the oil that lubricates the gears and clutch. That's also why it wasn't warm. Also, the reason we use motorcycle specific oils is because of the wet clutch in them. Regular car oil has friction modifiers in them that won't allow the clutch to generate the friction needed to lock up and provide drive. It has nothing to do with operating temps. Different thickness oils have to do with seasonal temps. Hotter temps, thicker oils, Colder temps, thinner oils. Just thought it might help make sense.

    • @KMLTimesTwo
      @KMLTimesTwo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hired Expectations thank you for watching and your comment. Yes, premix is the engine oil per se. That said, the gear oil still does get hot. I also have successfully run car oil in bikes with no issues. But I am old and slow. I certainly recommend anybody that's riding hard and serious to put motorcycle specific oil in it. I also recommend replacing your clutch plates a little on the early side. PS - my recommendation is only for 2 Strokes.

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So many people make that mistake and think 2 strokes have engine oil...

    • @kristalane3319
      @kristalane3319 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Automotive ATF Type F does not have friction modifiers in it and can be used in place of the more expensive factory wet clutch oils. Must be "TYPE F" tho.

    I've got a pw50 from 2000 and I got about 4 good starts and runs on it before it stopped working. It had an old spark plug which I changed, but I still can't fix the issue. Does anyone know how I can get it to kick again?

    • @KMLTimesTwo
      @KMLTimesTwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you were using 2 stroke oil in the fuel? (Or in the oil tank.) Air, fuel, spark and compression is what you need to run. Compression should be good I suspect and you just put a new spark plug in it, so spark is good. (Make sure to gap it right.) Now we are down to fuel and air. Remove air filter and try. Then check to see if getting fuel.

      Dan Jim it’s the restrictor plate in the exhaust. Pull pipe off cylinder and you will see it. Knock the plate off so you just have a gasket ring.

    I have a question, I bought a new pw50 ,, the seller put oil 2t and gasoline ,, but a question worried me ,, in the manual emptying box after 1, 6, 12 months ,,, but the new pw50 has Do you already have oil in the box or should you do it? I ask the question to the seller by phone, this asshole told me to read the manual, what I did of course and is not specify .. I hope you answer quickly, because I intend to roll it this weekend with my guy, if not bha, I try a drain, measure the outgoing quantity and if can be ready the amount to recommend, the rest will be yes, but I would prefer to avoid a work..

For the pre-mix oil that goes in the gas, I use the 2R oil that I mentioned previously. Sorry, about that. I responded to quickly on my phone.
