There's no denying the fact that DDP and Macho Man had great in-ring chemistry together. The thing that bugged me about the main event of this show was the fact that even though it was No-DQ, referee Mark Curtis kept taking chairs away from Savage or sliding them out of the ring after they were brought in to be used as weapons. Why? It's No-DQ, it shouldn't matter.
Madusa: why did I throw the wwf women’s title into the trash, WCW is not giving me a reign, maybe later , Time after this PPV, Hokuto left the ountry, Devil masamune was champion and the title was deactivated in 98 Madusa: god dammit
Regal was heavily concussed after he was in a car wreck with Chris and Nancy Benoit earlier in the day, he has no memory of this match and came to a day and half later. Crazy that they're both on this card
Was coming to post the exact same thing. It was so serious Regal at first though Chris and Nancy had died in it and he had to drag them from the car. Crazy they wrestled that night.
12:38 what really makes the promo great is Sherri and her reaction to Booker. Booker looks at her like I just messed up bad and Sherri's smiling and comforting him. Booker got in the Heat of the moment.
21:33 Unfortunately, Luger only held the WCW World Heavyweight Title for five days. He won it on Nitro that Monday, but lost it back to Hogan at Road Wild the following Saturday, thanks in part to nWo interference and Dennis Rodman dressed as Sting.
19:02 - shout out to Wrestling Bios (and probably others, to be fair) giving this tag team the most obvious-yet-somehow-missed tag team name ever: "Giant Package".
Anytime you do a WCW PPV during the mid to late 90s, Page/Savage is always going to be in the plus section in my book. Those matches were so good back then
When I covered this on my blog, I tweeted Dave Penzer about this show. He said Savage was a complete professional when he slapped him. But no one warned Buffer about the spot. Buffer was apparently pissed no one gave him a heads up.
The funny thing here is that the Benoit/Malenko "he wasn't supposed to be here" thing and Nash/Steiner are my lasting memories of this show. I didn't even realize this was the show with THAT promo until I saw the thumbnail lol
Definitely should review the ppv after this Slamboree 97. The promos leading up to that are awesome. Nash cuts the best promo of his career leading up to that show on Flair and Piper. The real heat with Syxx and Flair was there. Plus at the end of the ppv Tony says when those guys wear up someone should tell them tradition does not bite.
It’s interesting that this was the highest DDP and Booker were on the card at this point, because they were the two biggest stars of WCW during the invasion
I share the same sentiments. I can't watch Benoit and Nancy on screen together without feeling a type of way. Also any shot to Benoit's head gives me the same feeling like at 15:30
WCW's handling of Luger's redemption story was one of its biggest triumphs of this era. And in true WCW fashion, it became one of their biggest mistakes. Luger was the one who questioned Sting and caused WCW to lose him for months. He then quit at the end of War Games. He was the loser. He became WCW's top guy, the guy who'd fight the nWo all on his own. And even though he'd usually lose those fights, he regained his respect. Then he beats Hogan for the title, fights off the nWo in the process and loses it 6 days later. The ultimate story was Sting vs. Hogan so Luger couldn't have a long title run. But Luger could have won the title earlier and held it for a month or 2. Or, he could have just won it at Road Wild, held it for a month and had Hogan win it back at Fall Brawl. Fall Brawl was the same PPV where the nWo destroyed the horsemen. So they could have done that and had Hogan cheat to beat Lex, regain the title and had the nWo take him out after. At that point, Sting would have even more of a reason to be motivated to beat Hogan, seeing the horsemen and Luger destroyed. Would have created even more heat heading into Starrcade...which WCW still would have screwed up.
I love these videos. Not really into the current day stuff but love these for the old shows without having to watch a ton for the builds and all that just a solid recap. Think I've watched all of these Haha.

1997 was definitely my favorite WCW year. Bash at the Beach 97 is still one of my favorite WCW ppv’s. I go back and revisit that one often.
I totally forgot Prince Iakea existed! Gotta say, these classic reviews bring me back!
Madusa: why did I throw the wwf women’s title into the trash, WCW is not giving me a reign, maybe later ,
Time after this PPV, Hokuto left the ountry, Devil masamune was champion and the title was deactivated in 98
Madusa: god dammit
I mean... she got a Cruiserweight title reign so... yay?
@@riotd.r.8363 And then feuded, and lost to, Ed Ferrara as Oklahoma. Who... was too fat and definitely not a wrestler.

Booker: Hulk Hogan, we coming for you....
Hogan: stop brother, that's my word😂
After seeing these events unfold again, kind of weird how Nash and Savage were the face faction of the NWO.
I heard that promo in my head as soon as I saw the thumbnail
19:02 - shout out to Wrestling Bios (and probably others, to be fair) giving this tag team the most obvious-yet-somehow-missed tag team name ever: "Giant Package".
Anytime you do a WCW PPV during the mid to late 90s, Page/Savage is always going to be in the plus section in my book. Those matches were so good back then
That powerbomb into a stun gun by ultimo was absolutely genius
I did not think the Booker T promo was in '97. I always thought it was pre-NWO with the vibe of the promo
I didn't know the event but just seeing the thumbnail let me know what I was in store for: the best clip I've seen in wrestling history
When I covered this on my blog, I tweeted Dave Penzer about this show. He said Savage was a complete professional when he slapped him. But no one warned Buffer about the spot. Buffer was apparently pissed no one gave him a heads up.
19:14 "Sir, we've got a ton of women calling the WCW Hotline and they're all requesting The Giant."
12:00 How did they manage to edit that so seamlessly and well?
The funny thing here is that the Benoit/Malenko "he wasn't supposed to be here" thing and Nash/Steiner are my lasting memories of this show. I didn't even realize this was the show with THAT promo until I saw the thumbnail lol
that was the most entertaining commercial or commercial parody I've seen so far in my life. fucking brilliant
Definitely should review the ppv after this Slamboree 97. The promos leading up to that are awesome. Nash cuts the best promo of his career leading up to that show on Flair and Piper. The real heat with Syxx and Flair was there. Plus at the end of the ppv Tony says when those guys wear up someone should tell them tradition does not bite.
is it weird that Big Hass is the funniest and best part about these videos a very well done sponsorship
It’s interesting that this was the highest DDP and Booker were on the card at this point, because they were the two biggest stars of WCW during the invasion
Yeah, because neither of them went on to win the WCW title multiple times between '99 and '01. Do you even know what you're talking about?
@@SirPunzalot do you?

🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭 They gave Booker the BET Movie edit
I share the same sentiments. I can't watch Benoit and Nancy on screen together without feeling a type of way. Also any shot to Benoit's head gives me the same feeling like at 15:30
Definitely wasn't one and a half or two weeks later when Luger dropped the belt back to Hogan. It was five days later at Road Wild!
On Hogan's birthday. That probably was the reason
17:32 My God that is Kenny Powers even dominating wrestling! Knew he could do it all LOL
the sleeper of the booker t blunder is sensational sherri tapping his face and smiling. man she was good😂😂
Not a bad Regal match considering he and Chris & Nancy Benoit had been in a serious car accident earlier that day and he had bad concussion
Booker Ts infamous promo. 😎
Sherri’s a hero in that moment too - no indication of shock or surprise, just the smile which could be both ‘you silly git’ and in kayfabe supporting the intention to challenge.

8:29 Regal pulled a Samoa Joe before Samoa Joe
Wow, Macho piledriving Hildemuffin! I had totally forgotten that happened.
Brian, Randy, Sherri, Nancy, Elizabeth - all gone way too soon. And all for the wrong reasons.
Benoit and Malenko wrestling each other is one of the brightest WCW memories I have. "Fight Forever" is about right.
Brian Zane, we coming for you, wregreters!
This may be my favorite thumbnail ever
I've been waiting for Brian to review this for That Promo alone
Booker: Oh man, i've done goofed.
Big Hoss McGraw could get me to watch an ad for ANYTHING
OMFG! Patrick is a dead ringer for Powers 😂🤣😂🤣😂
The best thing about the booker t promo, sherri is getting booker to look at the camera still and you can tell she's enjoying the moment and trying to fuck with him by making him face the camera when he's just trying to hide in the background
The Kayfabe Commentaries "Most Botched Moments" video regarding Bookers' Freudian slip is an absolute classic. DDP and New Jacks' reactions get me every time. Do yourself a favour and watch that video after finishing Brians' review.
Coming back here after watching Wrestling Bios coverage of it. That segment is made even funnier knowing that Stevie Ray didn't hear the slip because he was too focussed on what he was gonna say
Crazy thing is, the Kliq members eventually used the freebird rules (dubbed Wolfpac rules long before the faction) with Syxx
Thank you Brian! I’ve been dying for another classic WCW review
When you know exactly what this video is about by the thumbnail before watching LOL
8:37 "Regal just nopes him!"
They should have Harlem Heat vs Steiners and change it to a #1 Contenders match and have a triple threat with Luger, Giant and add Nash.
Seems like WCW just couldn’t wait to progress storyline’s involving the top guys before and after matches started. It’s not hard to save those announcements like Nash vs Rick Steiner for the Tag belts until after the TV Title match
"I can't wait for the campfire"
Bobby was so great.
