The metal genre was invented in the late 60s, at that time there was no trace of Judas Priest. The band didn't really take off until Glenn Tipton joined in 1974.. They contributed to shaping but did not invent the genre.

Oh yes, I've had the occasion of interacting with both Rob and Ian after a show. Total sweethearts. They didn't have to talk to a bunch of drunk fans waiting by the bus but they did, each and everyone of us. One of my fondest memories.

He embodies the whole spirit of Judas Priest looking like he just got out of a 70's super fast motorcycle spaceship that destroys its enemies with huge energy cannons. Basically HE is the painkiller.
If anyone is wondering why KK Downing is wearing shades throughout most of this concert - he was poked in the eye socket by an incorrectly cut guitar string from one of his guitars that his tech handed him after restringing it. That eye swolled nearly shut. Ken decided to wear the glasses to hide his damaged eye and like a professional - he played on...
The way he looks down to reach the high pitch... that's skill. Naturally you're drawn to rise your head, but in that way you shorten your "bagpipe" and can't reach your peak. Masterful.

This is by far Robs masterpiece, without any question - and also the bands golden age. Rob does everything right, his voice is flawless, utter perfection. I've got most of the Priests live DvD's and watched them many times over the years, but when it comes to this one, this song, at this tour in Dallas, I get the chills and goosebumps every fucking time.

They were in peak form here, brilliantly rehearsed, warmed up, well-oiled, utmostly professional. The voice is searing, the guitars are splendid and while many people criticize Dave Holland as their drummer (of course I rank Les Binks extremely high), you must admit he is spotless here, focused, precise, with great drum sound and consumate team player attitude.

I was always amazed by Ian Hill's bass guitar sound. Its very specific and here its very well distinguished, you cant miss it: listen to 3:55. In TH-cam, the half of it is lost, but you can just imagine what it was, during that live. There was no metal before Defenders of the Faith, nor later, where a bass guitar sounded like that. Of course it depends on how the track is written, its overall build-up, but here its sounding just "monumental", absolutely mind-blowing. Btw, Judas Priest was initiated, established by Ian Hill.
C5 easy and A6 on the highest scream. In his prime Rob was the greatest live metal singer w Bruce from Maiden. The sounds he made everytime I've seen priest raised the hairs on my neck and being a singer for over 30 yrs myself. I couldn't imagine the number of years and live shows he gave his all. Untouchable here.

I saw JP in Atlanta for Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, Turbo, and then in 2019 and 2022. Always a JP fan until I die - even in the nursing home lol. SfV was the loudest concerts I've ever been to but also one of the best.
Those solos are incredible , I’ve always really loved this clip, the out fits and style blow my mind, the energy and body movements , that solo is phenomenal, I always thought of it as a great guitar duel expressing them selves through that solo, wondering what it really means
The guys working the sound board on this night, deserved a Grammy solely for the perfect quality of the vocals and music!!!! You know it's live, but it has that perfect studio sound to it!!
I've talked with Rob several times and without a doubt one of the coolest person I've ever met. And definitely the greatest influence on my vocal career. Rob, Glen,K.K. He was pretty awful live though. he is really struggling here. His pitch is all over the place on the midrange stuff.

I saw JP in Atlanta for Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, Turbo, and then in 2019 and 2022. Always a JP fan until I die - even in the nursing home lol. SfV was the loudest concerts I've ever been to but also one of the best.

I've talked with Rob several times and without a doubt one of the coolest person I've ever met. And definitely the greatest influence on my vocal career. Rob, Glen,K.K.
