Always thought at the time that Sparks was a new band--didn't realize these guys were in their mid-30's, had been around since the early 70's, and Jane was once a president of their fan club!
I actually thought the same thing for the longest time. I think it's not all that long ago I learned they had an extensive discography by this point and are still releasing albums as recently as this year.
To be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s atmosphere could harp on and explain vibes and feelings like no other time or place in history
I loved this song when I first heard it in the 80s. It was so much fun to dance to. I see #kroq below the title, I listened to KROQ radio station everyday living in the L.A. area, they had the best alternative rock music. ❤️😁
I love reading some of these comments about “the business guy dancing” and “the weird dude eating a banana”-folks, that’s Ron Mael, one half of Sparks.
I was about six or seven when my parents bought the mix album “Dancing Madness” with electric robots dancing on the cover. I loved this song and wore out the vinyl!!! 1980s rocked…
Oh man...the 80s...I want to go back to this great era of high school, times, fads, clothes, cars movies, music & NEVER COME BACK!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
if this ain't the 80's nothing is.. is that "Divine" in the background? Ahhhh It's so nice to go back- if only for a while... The happiest time in my now semi miserable life..
@@dafyddil Hello David, Things are better thanks- looking up as they say! Thanks for the concern. Hope things are good your way in this pretty interesting time.
The pictures change, but yes, that is in fact Divine. I also saw Ron Wood, John F. Kennedy, Dick Clark...and Mary Jo Kopechne thrown in for shock value. Not sure who that is in the picture at 3:25, though.
Sparks was the first band I saw live in concert. It was in 1983 around Halloween at Magic Mountain Amusement Park just north of Los Angeles with my buddy Jon. They were on the "Sparks in Outer Space" tour. I didn't know much about them before the concert but really became a fan watching them perform. Love this song, love the album, love their music!
I revisited this song after about 30 years since the first and last time I saw it on MTV. It holds up. The second chorus really delivers - "I wanna go . . . "
MTV was awesome back on the 80s. On weekends we'd all gather at a friend's place, order pizza, drinks...and enjoy all this 80s stuff. Now if you put on MTV? 😝 ugh! How times have changed.

Fond memories of my childhood. A friend of mine and myself would walk around the office walking and flailing our arms like Ron...and with a chair hooked on one of our feet! Great times! Nice to see a woman in a music video that looks so adorable without being next to naked.
I found a partner in crime,80's style,,,lol..I am a total music freak and 80's is,will always be the bomb as those were the teen years,i always had cash and the latest boombox no matter what. The party revolved around "RR1" always..I really like your posts Sheels, great work...
Sparks were always bleeding edge and at the forefront of style and trends with their own brand of American avante guarde sensibilities and humor. Jane Weidlan is definitley the icing on this very new wave cake. Very cutting edge stylistically for 1983. Also, reminds me of Pee-Wee's playhouse. Ill just bet Paul Reubens was a Sparks fan...
This brings me back to my High School years in the mid-90s. I did not like the music of that time, and LOVED the music of the 80s. The Valley Girl Soundtrack is where I heard this the 1st time. Still love listening to it. Oh God can't we PLEASE go back to the 80s?!
The craziness of early 80's videos!. I heard this track yesterday for the first time and thought..."This is a million miles away from "Rush hour"...that is Jane Weidlin isn't it?!".
God, how young Jane and Russell are in this video! So nice to see their energy, sense of fun and sexiness. As so many have lamented through the years, "God, give me back my youth!"
I’m 56 and grew up in the 80s. I had never heard this song or seen this video until recently. I’m sure that I would’ve been in love with Jane Wiedlin had I seen this video back then. She’s adorable!
I agree. I remember pretty much all New Wave stuff and this rings no bells. But I certainly know who Jane (AKA Joan of Arc in Bill & Ted) is/was and yep, she was a doll!
I only knew the song Rush Hour by Jane Wiedlin and I watched it recently for the first time in a long time. That led me to Blue Kiss, which I’ve never heard before. When I searched for other songs for her it brought me to Sparks. I had never heard of Sparks even though I was in high school in 1983. Now I can’t stop watching this video! It is so perfectly 80s and I wish I had seen this video back then. I watch this video several times every day now and it really makes me nostalgic for the 80s. Jane is adorable!
Let’s not go overboard and disparage the music up today…… it was so wonderful back then….. but I found aNEWKINDAS-KOOL 64 years old ;-)…. I’m not stuck and I ain’t dead yet! Stay happier!
They smile when they kiss on the swings and it makes me smile too. I know it’s a video and it’s supposed to look like they’re having fun, but I like to think that they were honestly having fun.
This whole thing (song and video ) is an absolute work of genius. And damn, its so funny. You can't be truly funny without being smart. Frank Zappa asked "Does Humor Belong in Music?" and I agree with him and the Maels brothers. Yes, yes it does.
It has to, the world would be dead without it. But most music is just dumb, unfunny or sickly and gross and does not have any humour, wit or even any point existing.
mimimousegirl - I hear that! I was a regular on the club scene from 1980 through to the early 2000’s and yet I never had as much fun dancing as I did in the early 80’s. In fact I would sometimes be the first person on the dance floor when they would play one of my favorite dance tracks early on - like When I Look in Your Eyes by The Romantics or A Million Miles by the Plimsoles or Cool Places by Sparks of course. Unfortunately however by the late 80’s the music they were playing no longer had a beat which was in sync with the early 80’s dance styles so dance moves had to change. Lets face it, dancing is only fun when you feel totally in sync with the beat, in which case the music is moving your body and you are not really thinking about doing any particular type of “move”. Anyway by 1987 everyone was doing the running man which was still kind of a fun dance as it was very aerobic and had a lot of foot work. But by 2000 there were no longer any real light-on-your-feet dance moves in the clubs and it was all about keeping your feet planted and just moving your hips. In fact, the last time I went dancing and I girl asked me to dance all she wanted to do was stand with her back to me and grind her ass into my crotch. I’m not complaining mind you but that’s just not dancing to me. Also I have to say that I really miss the slow dance segments at dance clubs which just suddenly disappeared sometime in the 90’s, never to return.
I miss working for 106.7 KROQ...cool places and good times!🎶✌🤪❤🎶 Jane, your my favorite Go-Go's crush in high school. Congratulations on your "She Rocks Icon Award" (2021). Rodney Bingenheimer should've been on that video dancing like Billy Idol...🕴🕺

I think the Mael bros first release as “Halfnelson” was in 1972. Too lazy to verify that.
Never get tired of the Sparks between Jane Wiedlin and Russell Mael!
Did Sparks fly with Jane these 2guys she's classy style her way Go Gos Girl with swag can do it go to 1988 with her huge hit Rush Hour 5years omg
