    NEVER ignore those odd noises. They are nearly always the announcement of a sale price on a repair. Ignore them and pay the FULL price for a bigger repair!

    • @douglascampbell9809
      @douglascampbell9809 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wholeheartedly agree with this.
      I worked in a number of jobs with complex machinery.
      One of the most important aspects of running those machines was listening to them and feeling them for vibrations. Any unfamiliar noises/movements were signs something was failing.
      Usually bearings or motors.

    Tie the extension cord into a knot with the cord you are plugging into it, leave enough of each end so they are not under tension when connected. Then when tension is put on either cord they will not unplug.

    • @scottnunya1
      @scottnunya1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When its 5 degrees, the cord is probably really stiff to knot

    The blasting winter’s wind-it evokes the burr and the grr of all who attempt to endure it. Y’all are getting stuff done and it’s entertaining to watch for sure: thank you for sharing your journey with us! FYI: we’ve had tires stolen in the past, so we began the practice of removing them from equipment when they are not required for daily utilization. It’s sad to need to do this, but it is what it is. ✌🏻🚜❤️

    You will take a pivot well pump engine in to get serviced and repaired (which is a good thing), but not your Chevy truck with the oil pump pickup O-ring problem which causes the low oil pressure? Laura, Grant, that truck is well worth putting the money into to fix it up. Right now used trucks (even really old ones) are outrageously expensive. I cannot recommend enough taking care of that little oil pump problem now before it becomes a bigger one and will cost you a lot more if you let it go burn out the engine bearings! BTW, most people never take care of trailer wheel bearings and let them go dry and they fill full of water and corrode which is what happened with the hub coming apart. My dad taught me even as a kid how important that boat trailer bearings are as well as all trailer bearings (especially those with the smaller wheels that rotate at high RPMs on the highway) as well as inspecting the tires for dry rot. We almost overturned our boat and station wagon on the highway once from not watching the tire air pressure and also the proper loading (not enough/proper tongue weight, trailer wheels mounted too far forward). Once you've had a close call like that it will wake you up and make you think more about preventative maintenance and checking the tires, bearings etc.! I say this only because I really like you all and want you to be safe and happy, always! I'm not trying to be a drag/downer! Just sayin'! Even though we have not ever met, I feel like you are both my family and friends!

    Hi Laura you probably need to have the service engine soon light checked it out and also what I would recommend is Lee with the tractor battery plugged in over the winter do you keep the battery from dying.

  • @steventoby3768
    @steventoby3768 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Great video! Jumpstarting the tractor was priceless, I've been there and done that -- diesel engines just hate the cold. You skimmed over preheating the glow plugs though. One suggestion: Grant should have his own microphone. Laura comes through loud and clear but I often can't make out what Grant is saying.

    You always want to connect the positive cable first when jumping a battery and removing the negative first when removing the connection, unless you like to live dangerously...... connect a positive connection while it's grounded is how you blow up a battery.
    You never want to connect or remove a positive connection if it's ground is connected.
    Hope you understand this concept, it's pretty important.....

    I don't know (disclaimer)...it doesn't seem safe to hook up a battery charger near a fuel depot, but I don't know much about diesel...perhaps it doesn't have flammable fumes that could leak through hose fittings, or maybe that battery charger can't be accidentally left in the ON position and won't generate a spark when connected to a battery. I suppose it's a lot of work to tow the tractor to a safe location.

    Those trucks are super commonly known for the oil pressure sensor to go out Laura! I imagine that’s all it is if your truck still seems like it’s running right. If it had no oil pressure you definitely wouldn’t think the engine sounded good!

  • @DraikoGR
    @DraikoGR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the content.
    Now, i wanted to answer about the drill problem you had (moving the seed box) but i kind of forgot to. You don't want to do that and the reason is basic physics.
    If you move the weight forward and closer to the back axle then the weight of the seeder will get on that axle, causing balance issues. To counter that, you would have to add forward ballast and that would get your tractor back to balance though it will create an increase on the total weight of the machine, which means more power load, more fuel consumption etc. etc. At the end, not changing anything sounds a better plan with less risk involved :p
    I hope you have a great year and i'm waiting for planting season.

  • @royl9858

    Jumper cables are like battery cables. Always hook up (red) positive first and (black)ground last. When removing ground first and positive last. This will help prevent an unwanted spark.

      If you wait until wheel bearings fail, you'll likely be repairing more than just wheel bearings. A wheel bearing full of grease leaves no room for water and dirt to get in and cause damage. Grease turns out to be a good lubricant as well.

    You can probably ignore that low oil pressure light. The gas GM trucks always have the oil pressure sensor go bad. It’s not really worth it to replace either unless you have bad intake gaskets because you have to pull off the intake manifold to replace it. It’s in the back of the engine valley cover at the very back of the engine

    I'd suggest trying a new oil pressure sensor. Should be relatively cheap and can be quickly done. If still an issue, next option would be an oil pump or replace the engine. I'm not an LS guy, but I think the oil pump asm mounts on the front of the block and is a bit involved compared to the older engines like on your irrigation pumps.

    1, Check the oil first. It may just be real low causing the pressure to drop. 2, If your pivot engine trailer is on blocks, wiggle the tires before moving the trailer to see if it is getting loose. 3, Put a hitch lock key on the truck key ring. 4, I'm from southeast Louisiana. What does 5 degrees mean?

  • @My-Say
    @My-Say 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your engine is probably shot. If your oil pressure is ever low, you need to take it to the garage and get the oil pump replaced. If it is burning oil, that means it isn't worth fixing unless it is just a gasket issue. I change mine every 4k and use Lucas oil stabilizer each time.

    About wind... Where I live, the wind is so bad that they wrote a tragic horror novel about it "The Wind" by Dorothy Scarborough (1925) Then they made a movie "The Wind" (1928) starring silent screen movie legend Lillian Gish with actors Lars Hanson and Montagu Love.. there have been several screen adaptations in the years since.. one as recent as 2018. Where is this God awful wind swept place? The Western edge of Nolan County Texas *between Sweetwater and Colorado City. In the last 10 years alone, we have seen 2 loaded freight trains blown completely off the tracks. Sweetwater proclaims itself to be the Wind Capital of the World.. and is also known for the W.A.S.P. Air Museum and hosting the annual World's Largest Rattlesnake Round up.

    What's the horsepower requirement to run a pivot? Does it depend a lot on how far you have to lift the water? I'm surprised you have a 454 on it. No diesel? That's one thing I've never been around.

    I picked up an EV (20ll Nissan Leaf) last September, I haven't bought gas for my rigs since September. I love it! I highly reccommended it! I suffer from mileage syndrome.

    No Key's? Usually in my day, we would "run out of gas" out in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful seat cover.

    Good Morning I don't blame the 8330 ; 5 degrees is to cold for anything or anyone to be outside.
