Upon further review, the lady actually did the right thing regarding my bill. She won't enable pumping from the other side until the bill has been settled. On the one occasion when I forgot to take a photo of the pump... 🤦
I love riding in North Yorkshire. One of my favourite campsites is not far from Hawes, in a place called Muker. Apparently the petrol station is community owned and is the cheapest fuel supplier in the area.
I do like Hawes as a place and as a stopping point in the middle of some great roads. The road from Hawes to Ribblehead viaduct is superb and the Buttertubs pass in the other direction is stunning.
Yorkshire is lovely, I really enjoyed trail riding up their last year, but should go again and enjoy the tarmac roads too. I used to drive to just beyond Glasgow every week when I was in the RN, rode it a few times but agree that motorways are no fun, so mainly threw the bikes in the back of my van for the journey. Well done finding a way off them horrible m-ways to enjoy the bike on.
@@HippoDrones it's not so bad in a car, but it's horrible on a motorcycle to be on the motorway for so long. Besides, I'm in the east of London so have to cut across anyway 😉
I do like a pone box in whatever átate It may be in. I love the dales too. I went through Hawes last year with Twinks. We continúed over Buttertub pass, on 4 wheels, but still some priddy. Strange setup at the fuel station. I wonder how often folk pay for someone else’s fuel 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for the mention, my friend 😀
I think I'm the one who was an idiot on this occasion. She had the right bill for me. They have a system but it's too much for simpleton outsiders like me
@ I just read my comment back. My phone has been incorrectly correcting text since the latest update. FFS! It’s taking several minutes to write a couple of simple sentences.
@@DeweyRides everyone has mobile phones these days. A lot of old phone boxes have been adapted to hold AEDs (defibrillators) or some sort of community book exchange or similar. Alternatively, they're also often used as public toilets.
Surely that petrol station must get constant issues with those pumps.
Stupid idea.
Nice ride apart from that crazy bit.

@@neilmackinnon3371 they were very nice and the prices were good. I love community owned fuel stations
Love all of that area. We stopped in Hawes on our coast to coast vid. Surprisingly, with my bike's range, we didn't stop at that petrol station
That was my first fuel stop after leaving Glasgow 😅 though I did stop for a rest break.
How pretty. All the stone walls are fantastic and just so English.
@@DeweyRides yeah they're all over the British isles. I'm hoping to see loads of them next year when we tour Ireland.

I first visited from the Ribblehead side in 2022. Definitely agree about the road. It has a couple of "jumps" 😅

@NooBiker yup
I think maybe once every three years I'll see that many bikes on the road during a days ride.
Awesome, isn't it?

Yorkshire is a lovely place to ride. Definitely preferable to motorways.

All the roads lead there? Didn't know Rome was between Glasgow and London.
Not Rome, Hawes 😉
I don't think anyone has used that phone box in a while.

I'll expect to see such stupid fuel pumps in Cornwall, but not up North.
That's a great detour. Beats the motorway.
If you go far enough up north, it becomes worse than Cornwall. I hear some of them also go against #creamfirst
What a stupid system at the petrol station.
Upon further review it actually worked correctly, the fault lies with the simpleton outsiders...
