Before DeadMau5’s iconic helmet developed a cult following; having his fans tattoo it all over themselves, an extensive merch line, fan art, and collectible figurines
Before he rocked world stages and iconic events like Lollapalooza, and was reported to earn 100k for every event played
Before his very active social media pressence on facebook and twitter would get over 9 million supporters
Before deadmou5 would date smoke shows like october 2009 playmate Elle Evans and tattoo goddess Kat von D.
Joel Zimmerman grew up in Niagara Falls and early on showed an interest in electronics and mechanical things. He spent his youth dismantling machines and putting them back together, and became obsessed with video games. But when his parents divorced in his teens he took to raving as a form of expression. A habit that didn’t go over well with his parents. Joel always seemed to be ahead of the curve, advocating for computers in music production long before anyone considered it. He was a wiz kid on the computer and would spend his time in chat rooms back when the Internet was in its infancy. When a dead mouse caused his computer to crash that story evolved into his online username. After high school he moved to Toronto and befriended a fellow programmer and the two made a joke track that jabbed at how formulaic house music was. What they hadn’t counted on was it becoming a huge hit.

Erm, no. This is not correct. Dubstep is a derivative of the Garage genre that started to emerge in the late 90's in London. Deadmau5 had nothing to do with it.

I love deadmau5... I get the fact that his music can be repetitive such as those continuous beats, but he is a fucking talented genius, and most people don't see that.
Also he isn't fake like most EDM artists, some who call themselves DJ's (I know Deadmau5 isn't one).

There is no way that Jewel Zimmerman kicked off dubstep. He didn't start messing around with dubstep until his Deadmau5 stuff was already popular, and before anybody ever heard one single dubstep track from Deadmau5, there were several other dubstep DJs out there producing tons of Highly developed very good dubstep. Joel came to the dubstep game late.

Quite idiotic saying that he inspired dubstep when the truthful fact is dubstep came from the very first drum and bass genre, it is a drum and bass sub genre. Lots of drum and bass elements had dupstep in it, for example the transitions in the songs had that dub element mixed with electronica. When it comes to the dubstep name as a genre it should be called dumbstep because that's what it actually is a dumb step out of it's original form.

Maybe he meant to say Ghosts n Stuff even though it's 128 BPM and technically "electro" or "complextro" but it still has wobbles and choppiness associated with 2010 era dubstep.
