- It's been a week but as I process the loss of my father, I wanted to share his story as a photographer in his own word. While he is now gone, his work lives on and I hope to share a fitting memorial to the man he was and the work he made in the weeks to come.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I can only imagine how proud your father must have been to see your work, your family, and your many accomplishments. Rest in peace.
What a beautiful tribute. I really enjoyed watching and learning about your Father - what an inspirational man with such an interesting life. We're lucky to have videos about some of our nearest and dearest, and I'd encourage anyone to interview their family members whenever they can as it makes such a valuable record in the future. Not just older members, but younger ones too, to see how they grow and change. Thanks for sharing this at this difficult time, take care.
Such phenomenal advice Gordon. I thankfully made a lot of interviews with both my parents over the years and I'm grateful to have those recordings to revisit. I try and interview my kids occasionally, a line or two, just because it's so fun to hear and watch them grow and I gratefully have some recordings of my own childhood from my dad that I love to show my girls now as well. We don't live forever but our stories can.
I'm sure he is very proud of you and your photography. His work now lives through you. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you. He lives on in so many ways.
Sorry about your dad. I’m a freshly minted octogenarian and I was the junior art editor at Vogue in the mid sixties. Beatrix Miller was the editor and she left a life long impression on me. Vogue studios were two floors up from the art department and there they were, David Bailey, Michael Joseph, Norman Eales et al. What a dizzying time it was…✌️
Sorry for your loss. He seemed like a great man who had a wonderful life. And he gave us you !
Your father was an amazing man. Condolences.
He was
So sorry for your loss. He lives on in you. 😢
There are no words. Just love and hugs.X
My father got me into art. When I was in college I learned that my dad was also a creative professional, before he got frustrated with it and left it for a working class life to help support his family. Even so, he was the person who always ensured I had cameras, art supplies, and advise. He taught me how to draw a cube when I was 6, he gave me my first two cameras (a Polaroid Impulse and Canon Rebel 2000). I would not have the life I do now without him.
People say, "Oh, the pain will fade," or "You'll get over it with time." That's garbage. For someone who has impacted your life that much, you'll think about them every day and pretty often it will bring your to tears when something like this video comes up. But I've also found that that's not bad either. Waking up and thinking about someone who has impacted my life makes me want to do the same and impact someone when I've faded into the soothing black.
I feel for you, I'm sorry and feel yout loss.
Lovely thoughts and words. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Deep condolences from Indonesia. Rest in peace.
Thank you.
We walk in the shadow of great people, for us to shine that much brighter.
R.I.P. sorry for your loss
Wonderful. He will be so proud being honoured in this way.
Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute to your father. What a fascinating man.
He was unlike any other
Very sorry for your loss. He seems to have been an incredible human being and photographer, may he rest in peace
A touching speech.
What a beautiful story. I know someone who's had 2 NDE's after an accident and is totally fearless. Remarkably none of the people that had an NDE kill themselves, so we're here for a purpose.
Thank you very much for sharing.
My condolences. All happens to us so that we can be grateful.
Please accept my condolences. Watching now. Absorbing storey teller.
A big hog from a Mexican fan of yours. Your dad had a great history to share! wow! He should be very proud of you.
I'm so sorry for your lose. Take however much time you need it a difficult time. Lovely Tribute.
So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this video , so fascinating. Very much looking forward to sharing his work in the future. I lost my dad last year so I am with you. My dad was the one who instilled the love of photography in me. We both always had a camera with us. Of course I still do! Thanks again for sharing and hugs for you and your family ❤!
I'm so sorry to hear that but thank goodness for dad's who gift us with such wonderful interests!
What a wonder of a man
My condolences. A beautiful life and love.
❤thanks for sharing your father with us :)
just finished watching all the way through - what a beautiful message and beautiful reminder. Thank you.
Love this. Very inspirational. Sending hugs your way.
Please accept my condolences. I’m blown away that you’re even online right now. I lost my mom not long ago and I know how hard this time can be. Thank you for your courage - sharing his work is so important. I really enjoyed listening to him. I am GenX so love the stories about his early career. He was clearly a deeply transformational man as well, clearly. I relate to his comments about meditation and grappling with the existentialism of life. Fascinating!! You must be so proud… I wonder if that barking dog was channeling someone? Follow your dream! ❤
May his memory always be a blessing. Wishing you and your family long life and comfort together at this sensitive time.
I recently lost my dad as well, he always supported my photography and it always meant so much to me as he didn't do much photography himself. Take care of yourself during this time!
trully moving and inspiring words , i have the luck to be the Behind the Scenes photographer for some cover shoots for Glamour Mexico - Latin America and now your father will be always in my mind when we are shooting the next covershoot . My condolences and prayes to you and your Family .
Wow!
My condolences to you. Your father lived a most unique and full life. I also lost my mother in law a little more than a week ago. She was a Parisian and lived and travelled all over. She was also from the generation that experienced the war and then all the subsequent changes that have followed after. I miss that connection to that past because she experienced so much. Irreplaceable people from that generation. People who believed and cherished humanity.
Condolences from me her in Sweden. May he Rest In Peace.
Tack
My condolences.

I feel this so much. My father was a musician who inspired me to do the same. I lost him to cancer 11 years ago. Give yourself grace in this, your year of firsts.
When he says that you, with your birth, brought back to him his inspiration after your grandma’s death, wow! You have always been his everything. Beautiful. Condolences and thank you for sharing! ❤
What a great speech. Bless you Ali , keep smiling ❤.
All of our hearts go out to you and we hope you heal and live life for the both you now❤
Thank you so much.
Ali, that really is a great loss. I think I can empathise as my dad was a great role model for me too and he left me a few years ago. All that matters is follow your dream, follow your dreams and that will bring you as close to your dad as you can get. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Beautiful words and reminder. Thank you.
Follow your dream. Thank you for sharing and he's back where we all started - in a better place.
He is indeed back home.

14:48 "It is absolutely magnificent where we come from. It is absolutely magnificent where we return to."
You look like him and seem to have a similar nature What an incredible life.
My deepest condolences. I very much know the grief you are going through. I lost both of my parents this past year. My heart goes out to you. All the best.
From England. You were both blessed to have each other.
I look forward to seeing more of your dad's " stuff".
By that, I mean everything you have!
Be strong, be proud.
Lots of hugs.
My condolences to you and your family and thank you for showing your father’s talk. While listening to your father talk about his life it brought back memories of my childhood in the fifties and although I grew up in America we went without until the sixties where I experienced the same rebellion and the Beatles. It also reminded me of the photos I took of my parents especially later in their lives. And lastly how much I miss them. I look forward to what I know will be your loving remembrance of your father’s life and work.
Love you Ali at this difficult time ❤What an amazing man your father! Lot of us are all in middle age where we think about our lives and what we want from it. Your father seems like discovered something earlier than many and went on his path and took his chances always
I'm sorry for your loss. He clearly had a life well lived. And what a legacy he left.
He looked and sounded like one of those great speakers who isn’t sure he is a good speaker. He talked about luck and fortune, but in my experience those result from the effort, care, and discipline those people put into their lives. How fortunate you were to have him. And I agree with the other commenters that he was fortunate to have you. As a parent I am sure you know that feeling that comes when you see your children grow and develop on the road to (successful )adulthood. It isn’t pride… it is more than that. He must have felt that about you. Thank you for sharing this tiny bit of celebrating his life!
Such kind words. We loved each other very much.
I could have listened to his stories for several hours - shame the format of the interview didn't allow it. What a great man and fantastic message. Hopefully you are surrounded by loved ones as you and your family process his loss. 100 agree that when he passed that he did so bravely.
I am so sorry for your loss. Your video is much more than a tribute, it is an inspiration for all of us parents: to be - with all our insecurities and struggles - the role models for our children. Thank you for sharing.
Very sorry for your loss, he seemed like a very kind man, full of stories. RIP.
You are so amazing and i love the purity of your heart and spirit. Thank you for the opportunity to partake in this homage with you. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a force and you are the byproduct of that and you are so inspiring. Thank you so much , Thank you! Praying for you and your family and your beautiful heart. Take time to yourself 💓
my condolences to you and your family.
My condolences! You had a wonderful father, what a life and inspiration! My dad died of Alzheimer too at the age of 90 in 2020. I miss him so much, my tears are coming up when I talk about him or even think about him, even after 4 years. I know how you feel right now, the pain will not desapear so easy but will lower as the times go by. The good memories and photographs will always be there to ease the pain.
Michel from Sweden!
Tack Michel
