Thanks for this piece on Robertson. He was an able and brave staff officer. The NPS owns his unpublished diary on the war, which was donated by his family.
The Union army gave these metals out like purple hearts are awarded today. They eventually codified the process and only then did they tighten the requirements. Over 1500 Medal of Honor awards were made during Civil War.
No doubt the threshold is significantly greater today ,however the heroes of the CW justly earned the award. There were more than a few " who were recinded after the award up on scrutiny..."
I’m looking for the definitive biography of Miles. I am thinking that he became more well known as an Indian fighter after the Civil War. A dry goods store clerk, who as mentioned had no formal military education, Miles was the last person to hold the position, Commanding General of the United States Army. Edit: I hadn’t watched until the end when I wrote the above.
Another fascinating story. Thank you for your diligent research efforts.
Another interesting video. Thanks!

Nice video
Thank you for your excellent research! Sometimes like today, it would be nice if you put up a battlefield map during the story to follow it better.
Thanks for the excellent suggestion!
