    I think an important point to note is that quite a few of these models either started in the industry when they were younger (like Emily and Cara), which helps because you wouldn’t know how tall they would be and they have already established the beginning of a career before they only grew to 5’7”ish. Or have worked in the industry (as with Naomi’s niece and the boy that modelled for Kanye as you mentioned) and quite possibly had connections. It is quite difficult for an older model (18+) to get started in the modelling industry if they are on the shorter side. Possible, but it is very difficult without already having an “in”.

      Certified Tyrone the “average person” also doesn’t need to. Models esp. runway models should have a unique or elite beauty type look. These are exceptions. Also, Devin was the daughter of a world-wide famous chef Benihana. Emily R is a commercial model who only began to do HF runways (mostly only Miu Miu) because of follower count. So please make sure these (mainly females) understand that follower count, and having something to boast about will be important if you want to be a short model.

    • @noname89636
      @noname89636 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Also, Kate Moss is not that short, so even still, most girls are still going to have to be at least 5’7 which is Kate Moss height.

    • @lanik4072
      @lanik4072 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      prayl00185 Moss may not be short by average female standards but in the modelling industry. She’s really short. Most agencies only allow auditions for 5’9+ or small few starting at 5’8. And if I remember she is only JUST 5’7, could easily be 5’6. A lot of model lie about their height adding an extra inch if they don’t meet the standard. And depending on how exceptional, talented, etc. the model is, they agency might leave it. Kate Moss is an exception because she was tall when she started if you’d consider her age back then but she didn’t continue to grow due to her addiction.

    • @noname89636
      @noname89636 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lani K .... In most (not all) cases when talking about petite modeling, we are talking about putting short models on the runway. And not just any runway, but high-end prestigious runways like Chanel. We know commercial modeling don't care about height, but high-end commercial (like HM and Zara contracts for non influencers), and high-end runway you generally need to be 5'7 (even for a petite model). So for low end commercial, or non prestigious jobs, height doesn't matter, but the more prestigious and high-end the higher the requirements.

    • @lanik4072
      @lanik4072 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      prayl00185 I know. I get what you mean but still stand by my statement. I have worked in the modelling industry even backstage for fashion week so I know, not anyone just gets chosen when they stand at 5’7. Using Moss as an example isn’t really accurate. When you look at most petite high end models active now, most come from wealth, or already had a following. If someone is 5’7, they must have an amazing walk, presence, or look, no agency or casting agent will simply pick a female at 5’7 for a high end show.

    • @noname89636
      @noname89636 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lani K .... You are correct about Moss. Most people don't know that she already had connections in the industry. Very few under 5'10 girls walk a high-end runway.

      Érica Congo if your reliable source is google, then sara is 5’9. Her agency and herself say so. But I’ve been in this industry long enough to know if there’s one thing that you shouldn’t trust in fashion industry is models heights. Bella hadid is 173/4 range and if you see a pic of her next to sara you’ll get my point. + I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that sara is shorter in fact It’s exactly the opposite.

  • @beaulocon996
    @beaulocon996 4 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    I think in this day and age, there should be more inclusivity as far as height goes. It’s a shame that in order to get that, some sort of ruckus has to be made in order to see results. There are fiercely beautiful short people who deserve to represent the diverse body shapes and sizes that people realistically have (as we know). We’ve seen a break from uniformity on the runway with more racial diversity, even size, (all of which I’ve been feverishly rooting for) but when will we see someone just breaking 5’0” setting the runway ablaze? Print work is cool and all, if that’s even a realistic option, but I just want to see someone my height strutting down the runway. Whatever gender. Not by industry standards of “short”, but proper short people. I’m sorry if this comment came off aggressive, but it’s kind of this backhanded compliment, “yOu CoUlD bE a MoDeL iF yOu WeRe TaLlEr”, that just...thank you, but now what? Lol. Let us in, we won’t let you down.

      I see what you mean but theres a lot of people who are tall shamed so it goes both ways

    • @beaulocon996
      @beaulocon996 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kimberlystone9827 Definitely am aware of that, but it is more common for an aspiring model to not get a job for being too short than being too tall. Average height for men is 5'6", but minimum (short for them) 6' tall for a male model. Most are 6'2". Average height for women is 5'2", but minimum (short for them) 5'9". Designers at large fit their clothes for those figures. I'm sure there are exceptionally taller people who will get passed on, but some are made an exception if they have a special look, and can be used in specific facets of the industry - be it runway or commercial, whatever is needed. But, for short people, there isn't a glimmer of hope. In any facet of modeling in the fashion industry. We can't even do print because the clothes aren't made for anyone below average in height and measurements. Which measurements are a whole other rant. But yes, I'll extend the claim for the exceptionally tallER, as well. Lol.

    Apparently swimwear/underwear models tend to be on the shorter side because the proportions and fat distribution are generally different.
    For runway I think you need a very demanding presence, and height gives you that. So I think if you don't have the height you need other striking features to grab people's attention. These shorter models have amazing faces (and hair!!) meaning the lack of hight doesn't make them pass by unnoticed :))

    5ft 1 inches or above photoshoot model..
    5ft 2 inches or above commercial model....
    5ft6 and above runway model....

    Its depends upon whats your country average height because every country has different standards😊
    When you become well established name in any modelling industry you can also do runway modelling...

      Couldn't agree more, I work in the industry and I'm going to be honest and some people might hate what I have to say. One you are correct about giving false hope because the likely hood of a short girl getting signed more than likely not going to happen especially for fashion. These girls usually have a parent or someone in their lives that already work in the industry that can get them in. 2 this whole plus models are getting a look in again it's not true they're making you believe that by putting one plus size in front everyone but really its not the case. Agencies and clients still want tall slim girls and guys otherwise it's a no

    5'6" and 5'5" are considered average woman heights. 5"8.5" is considered tall for a woman. They might include height wearing shoes to make them appear taller. Libbie Depp was the only one that would even be considered short by most people at 5'3" even then would barely be considered short as not at all unusual.

So she would have been a model no matter what her size cause of her connections, which is so unfair but true! I don't really count nepotism models as real models - apart from maybe Kaia Gerber and her brother who are STUNNING and actually the right measurements to be high fashion models.
