I think one of the reasons for this is that during TNG, some of the actors, including Mr. Frakes, got to direct episodes. I would think that would be great experience for an actor.

I quite like the somewhat softer way Patrick Stewart plays Picard now. It took some getting used to but it's actually cool. I actually wasn't a huge fan of the grumpy, sterner Picard in the first couple seasons, who hated kids and just wanted everybody to be straightlaced.

But the script they were given with the story line let them be on camera acting the way they actually feel - as old friends enjoying each other's company for possibly one of their last times. I did not like season 2 of Piccard. My wife forced me to watch season 3 after she watched the first three episodes. This last season is far and away some of the best story telling in the ST history line. It wraps so many story lines together. It was also great to see the evolution of Jordi and Worf.

as a boy that grew up with and on Star Trek TNG, I love it so much how basically the on screen personas (now even more so as it is portrait in the PICARD series) is also the real life relationship between the two... with Patrick being the singular genius, in his craft above so many and Jonathan seems to be the guy that makes everything run in the backround, sort of one of the only ones that can tame him. and basically behind all of it, simply a man-love :)

We really had something special with Star Trek TNG, and really all the 80's and 90's Star Trek shows. They showed an optimism and positivity that even the new shows just can't quite seem to replicate consistently, and I struggle to pinpoint exactly what the difference is because Strange New Worlds is very optimistic and lighthearted overall and pretty well balanced with action and drama, but there's just *something* about those older ones that was some kind of special TV magic we may never see again.

I wasn't a fan, but I respect that other people have their opinions and tastes. I didn't appreciate the dark and gritty aspects of the newer trek shows. The idea that Capt Picard was motivated to be a consummate professional because of trauma from his mother - I very much disliked that. Picard season 3 is some of the most enjoyable TV I've watched in a long time. Having so many TNG characters involved is gold, but the non-TNG characters are equally fantastic. It's just good.

I just finished Patrick's biography audio book, he says he keeps acting simply because he enjoys it, has never cared much for what his age is and has no desire to retire.

Absolutely LOVE Frakes, Spiner, and Stewart. What a true triad of heroes.
Man. What I wouldn't give to get *their* V.O. on "Diamond Dragons", too! 😮 Stewart would be a BRILLIANT Leiji. Frakes would make a fine Titan. And Spiner could easily do Jeeg, Dupe, and Bard in a heartbeat! 😁 Wow. Never occurred to me until this moment. Won't ever HAPPEN, but... all good.

However it is that you feel towards the Picard series in general, the interactions between the TNG characters in general are pretty great, but the scenes with Riker and Picard are absolutely amazing. Even though they're playing characters in a script, the mutual respect and admiration they have for one another easily shines through it all.

Patrick IS Capt. Pickard! I feel that dialogue comes natural to him. It must. Nobody else could do Pickard.

Frakes plugged Spiner for the show, and like so many of the things he does, he makes it totally natural.

Many people didn't like "Picard" but I did. It's always nice seeing my friends again. I wonder if they are going to do anything with Seven as Captain and Q still alive. Seems that has been put on the back burner?

I love that Frakes is a top tier actor, as well as a top tier director! Otherwise Sir Patrick would be having none of it. Working with your director, that was your co-star for hundreds of episodes, id fantastic. They love and respect each other, and that they will go to the moon and back, speaks to the mutual respect and talent they possess. Having been costars only requires minor corrections: faster, slower, emphasis on X. As a film maker, I love the idea of working together so long that you have a short hand and you can crank it out so quickly, but so genuinely!

I have been watching this guy since he was wearing his sprayed-on spacesuit, his oversized blazers asking _did you know,_ getting kinda' mad at him when I found out we agree on most things politically, but yet... I've never seen the big guy so *comfortable* as he is now, as a 1-man show in and of himself. He has humbly gone where no man has gone before, and is kind of the HMFrakesIC around those parts, in spirit if not title. Michael talking about 'the set' felt like me talking about the military; yeah, there are times, but yeah, I'm good ;-)

I mean, I would love to hear Brent Spiners impression of Patrick (and Ian), but can we take a moment to appreciate how utterly seamless and perfect Jonathan's own impression of Patrick is at the end of this video?... aaaand that's why I could never be an actor. This gift to be able to copy people so perfectly is just one that's not given to me.
