    You raised a very solid point in this video. People, especially newer basketball fans, just look at stats to determine how good a player is when they never watched a player play. That's why we have people like Nick Wright just looking a Kobe's field goal percentage and saying that he's inefficient. Kobe's playstyle, in which all of his shots are heavily contested and 80% of them perimeter shots, warrants a 45% career percentage. Saying people like Kobe and Dirk are way less efficient than LeBron is illogical because shot selection does matter. Comparing someone who takes predominantly perimeter shots to someone who shoots 60% of his shots in the paint is ridiculous. By that logic, DJ is more efficient that LeBron, even though 100% of his shots are dunks. People say Iverson shoots ridiculously low from the field, but given his teammates, he had to take a bunch of shots that were heavily contested. This happened in the 2015 finals when LeBron shot 39% because he had no help. He had great stats, but they weren't efficient. But we all know that his %s were warranted because he had no one around him. There has never been a roster that Melo had prior to last year where you can say, "That team should have won the conference" or "Melo had so much talent, his fg% shouldn't be that low". I swear, 90% of NBA twitter just use stats to say who's better.

    Melo doesn't get the respect he deserves. As u mentioned , look at them teams in the west he was going against every year. Melo was one of the greatest scorers of all time. And for those of y'all who think he should come off the bench in Houston, y'all need to learn the game of basketball. Why would u bring him off the bench with eric Gordon who is already one of the best bench scorers in the league and is in the game to get buckets. If u do that melon won't be able to get in a rythym just like when he played with westbrook. He will fit in much better with a real point guard like cp3 who will set him up and feed him the rock unlike Westbrook who likes to chuck up 50 shots a game and pad his stats.

      Melo isn't the same and he still thinks he's the godlike scorer he used to be. I'm not on the hate train on his past he was a beast but with what he is now not playing defense still tryna be the iso king while being slow he needs to cut the ego come off the bench bust like 16-18 off the bench then sit down. He should not start unless he magically learns to play D because his offense isn't on the level of making it worth the trade.

  • @emccauley49
    @emccauley49 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You made a lot of good points. One point you didn't mention is the lack of development/evolution to Melo's game. This is reflected in his I ain't coming off no bench mindset but I think it's huge in how he's been received. He's always been expected to be on par with Bron or at least 2nd to him in terms of on court performance. Coming off of that NCAA chip & the numbers he put up in year 1 the notion was pushed forward. It just seemed early on that Melo was most comfortable with where he was as a hooper than the others he was lumped with from his draft class. They all added to their games while he just refined what he naturally had. What he didn't become seems to be what pisses his fans/haters off the most.

    during 2006 to 2010 most of my classmates had PG/SG as their favourite player, someone likes Tmac, someone likes Kobe, someone likes Arenas and for me is Nash.
    There's actually one guy who thought Billups was the best player and played like him, another one was AI's no.1 fan but played like Ray Allen.
    The day when Billups/Iverson trade happened, both of them cried saying it's the worst trade.
    Then it turned out Denver became scary in the playoffs while Detroit totally irrelevant since.
    In my memory watching nba everyday since 2004, Anthony's best time was only with Billups, not that 2013 playoff run. Besides 2009 & 2010 playoffs, his team looked to get destroyed every time.

      @@FAlynn92 you can't say that he is a detriment to his teams because of two relatively bad seasons the knicks or nuggets haven't got enough succes since he left . He is 33 years old so he is naturally declining in his prime he was a decent defender and was better and better at scoring so it's false to say that he didn't add anything to his game . He chose money over winning but that was good for the knicks because it made the relevant to the league and the market. About feuds I don't know

    • @FAlynn92
      @FAlynn92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nuggets were still a good team the next 3 seasons after he left. They didn't drop off until 2014. Decent is about the best his defense ever was. Getting better at scoring doesn't add anything else to your game. He still isn't/wasn't a defender, rebounder, passer, playmaker, etc. And his style of offense is very discouraging to his teammates, who often get caught ball watching because they don't expect to get the ball after he jab steps 1000 times (detriment). His style of play discourages his teammates on both ends. Him choosing money over winning wasn't really good for the knicks. If anything, it stopped them from getting any other players to put around him. and the Knicks would be "relevant" with or without him, seeing as they are a NYC team, which always get attention just because.

    As a die hard Knick fan it is hard not to point a finger at JR Smith for them losing to the pacers in 2013. JR just wasn’t himself after he got suspended in the first round. Then the next year the Phil Jackson era came in during the 2014 season and well that was awful. Once the Knicks got Andrea Barngani it was game over for Melo and the knicks

    The hate that Carmelo gets comes from... I'm not sure tbh. I guess people don't see him as a winner, or someone who WANTS to win? He couldn't work alongside Iverson in Denver, he forced his way off of a pretty decent Nuggets team to go to a worse Knicks team, which he made even worse due to the fact that they gutted the roster for him and he couldn't co-exist with Amare Stoudemire, and when he got injured in 2011-12, Jeremy Lin carried them for a little bit. Other players returned from injury and played well alongside Lin, but Carmelo got jealous and even admitted that he didn't like the offense being run through Lin. He then went on to sabotage D'antoni's system (and Lin's 15 seconds of fame) by turning it into his usual iso ball offense (jab stepping at the 3-point line for 10 seconds after getting the ball). He made D'antoni step down, and couldn't get the Knicks to home court advantage in the playoffs. Then, next season, several veterans (Jason Kidd, Kurt Thomas, Rasheed Wallace, Marcus Camby, etc) showed up and carried the team, leading them to their best season in years, but when the playoffs came around, the old players were tired and Carmelo couldn't get the job done. They never made the playoffs again. Carmelo didn't (and doesn't) want to win. He just wanted to be in NY for the media attention and be in a low-pressure situation where he isn't expected to win. All the drama going on in 2016-17 and he seemed 100% ok with it. A sane player with a winning mentality would NOT want to be constantly questioned by the media after every game about the front office/team/coach drama. The media probably made him feel like a big shot by finding him after every game to ask him 1,000 times about the drama. Also, he refused to accept a better role for the team in OKC by coming off the bench because of his ego. So, to wrap this up, people probably don't like him because he is a proven loser who goes about as if he has won something in the NBA. He clashes with teammates, clashes with coaches, has NEVER added anything to his game, got fat & out of shape and took a ton of money to stay on a losing knicks team, just for that precious NY spotlight. He doesn't make anyone around him better, and his ego makes sure he doesn't make his team better. His game speaks for itself. Iso ball = all about Melo.

I mean come on, the people who hate him are literally nobody compared to him. I understand where he's coming from. But I do agree that he needs to take on a lesser role. But then again, when you've had that much good things going on for you, it's really hard to swallow your own pride.

  • @sandernista6499

    Melo has never been as good as advertised and has always been arrogant. From pushing for a trade from denver where the knicks traded all their assets just so he could sign a bigger contract extension. And turned down the chance to go to the bulls when he couldve helped them overcome the heat because he cared about his "business" in new york.
    And then not accepting that he isnt a superstar anymore and going to the bench. And turning up overweight when people from his same draft are staying healthy. Even a guy like Kyle Korver is fitter than him despite being older.
    The guy thinks he is lebron when hes no where near that level. And he never learned to play defense despite having the body to be a decent defender. If Melo was humble and didnt make everything about himself, he would be more liked. Dwyane wade is guy that is a winner (and a better player than Melo) and has taken paycuts and a lesser role to win. And he even went to the bench when his team asked him.

  • @LuckySpumoni
    @LuckySpumoni 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Carmelo was one of my favorite players of the 2000's when he was on the Nuggets. Once he FORCED his way out, that's when I knew Melo wasn't gonna make it. He had two good seasons in New York, and after that he's been ass. Facts. Could have been on the Miami heat with BRON and WADE but he didn't want to take a lesser role to LeBron and to Wade. Melo is just selfish...and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the ball stops when it's in his hands. I just summed up why people don't fuck with Melo anymore.

    This sentiment I have felt even when he was with my New York Knicks. I was noticing his “black hole” ball hogging and disinterest in improving his game even then. I vividly remember talking to my friends about Melo’s shitty style of play as far back as 2013...
    When he got to NY, the media and fans were expecting him to be someone that would be able to be the #1 guy and turn the Knicks into conference contenders. I feel that he got too much hype and his career is a little overrated. All the hate now is because his deficiencies are so pronounce now that he’s out of his prime. He was never a good play-maker, horrible defender, and literally ball-hogged his teammates out of any rhythm. That’s not hate that’s the truth. #ThankGodHe’sOutOfNY

    i think the vast majority of the hate comes from him playing with okc. anf i think it's really just him being used as a scapegoat. okc deserves criticism for losing like they did, and people are directing those feelings at melo, rather than the actual cause of okc's failure, westbrook's selfish play.
    westbrook can be great and plays in a very pleasant way for average fans. but westbrook whether consciously or not, actively ruins his team's play through his selfishness.
    melo's behavior felt like a strategic move more than anything to me personally. melo knows how to negotiate with teams, and how to throw teams leverage. and with the rockets he's never given the organization as much leverage over him, so i doubt he'll do much to rock the rockets' boat
