As I wait for a verdict on the planning application for the new bunker, I make good progress in the tunnel and get the equipment ready for the big dig #bunker #tunnel #construction
Thanks Dave, that's big progress on the tunnel, it feels seriously long now! Lights look good! I'm amazed how quickly you come up with those sheet metal folded designs. Don't stress yourself out with this, we can wait if things take longer! Keep spending your time with your family, they're much more important than us on TH-cam, even if there are 30k of us.
Thanks 👍 when I am doing a project I can’t help but to give it 110% commitment, it’s just how I’m wired up, hopefully next video we will have some big progress 😀
Roots of some plants can definitely go deep to find moisture. If you have a layer of gravel if collects and keeps water so the roots travel down it. We have pipes at 2-3 m sometimes and the tree roots find their way in to them
Nice update! So glad the planning permission for your original build is going through! You worked out a good alternative but I’m sure that was a great relief! Enjoy yourself and ice that elbow!
I guess the Planners would have mentioned that if they really want you to remove something in order to allow the new thing, the most effective thing is to say (as a condition of the permission, set out on the decision notice) you can't commence or occupy the new thing until the old thing is demolished. Alternatively they would give a timeframe to remove it. Unless you are in the Green Belt and there is a limit on the volume of extensions to the original house, I still think (admittedly without the benefit of knowledge of the site, area and local planning policy) it is a bit harsh to require you to remove the conservatory.
Awesome progress on this! Like the new signage! I think it was a good idea to incorporate that lift for the buckets of dirt! Bringing old relics back to life such awesome thing! Well done!
I was going to do it, I thought use a scrap engine powered by another with a big tank etc but then I thought I will have the tunnel finished before I get that done and the pipe would cost a fortune, maybe next tunnel 😂
If it’s never been excavated or never been dug out, you can possibly run a small gold vine with all the dirt you’re already taken out and I know you’ll find something
Good morning, Tunnel Dave [Oz time] I must be nearly cured of my claustrophobia, I am able to watch without turning away. I had a thought bubble to share. I was wondering if you connect the bilge pump up to a solar charger so that it could run continually. Just a thought, just wondering if you get any sun like we do. 🤔 And the lights are brilliant. Cheers
I was thinking of running the 12v tunnel electric off a solar charged battery so it’s always ready to go, the lights are great, just cause some flickering so need to change my frame rate I film with I think 😀
I don't know how you manage to work on your back like that for so long. I spend 5 minutes on my back working on my car and I'm absolutely beat. It's crazy how exhausting it is to hold your head up while working on your back.
Found this channel from Colin's - very cool, but I honestly have no idea what this guy is building haha. Very small little tunnels underground that he has to crawl through? Terrifying.
@@Tornado_Dave Thanks for the detail! For some reason I get great enjoyment out of watching people build tunnels, so I'll subscribe and continue watching :)
If that hoverboard is using its original battery I wouldn't like to be down there if it decided to self-combust as they do sometimes - lots of toxic fumes. Lead-acid batteries would be much safer for use in a confined space.
@@Tornado_Dave They can also fail during discharge - probably a small chance but very serious consequences if it did when you're deep in the tunnel trapped behind it
First video I am watching so no idea if covered before but how are you getting mobile or WiFi signal while down the end of a 25ft metal tube underground? Do you have an access point aimed down the tunnel?
@@Tornado_Dave ah must be a powerline device. Was just interested as I work designing networks and WiFi and an underground small metal tube has to be one of the worst RF environments I can imagine. Was surprised when you had your phone out streaming video down there. Would be interested to where it is located in reference the the tunnel.
I think it will be better like this when finished but only time will tell, if you could come back at the end of the project and give your verdict that would be great because I personally think the small tunnel makes the theme of the finished job better 😀
@@Tornado_Dave You will regret bldg it like that as you get older. Making it so small does not make sense. How many times do you have to hit your leg, head, hands, etc on it before you admit you made it too small.
Congratulations on the progress, Dave! Awesome job. Did I understand correctly that the planning commission gave the go ahead for your original construction plans with the larger addition? If so, well done and congrats! 🫡
Brilliant news, I like how you said you will take the conservatory down at……….some point lol
Im being honest, it’s just along way down my priorities lol

I find your "happy go lucky" demeanor, so refreshing.
Yes, always find things will work out in the long run so you just have to keep on going without letting stuff get to you 😀
I feel like Dave is moving faster than Colin! I'm betting on Dave for first place.
Colin's tunnels are a lot larger ... Larger equals more material. The main thing is safety!
Colin’s build is a lot bigger scale and in a harder location, I think he is also making some good progress at the moment as well 😀
This tunnel shows why men build everything on earth, not because it is easy, but because we want to ❤
Never thought I see a man make a 30ft tunnel yet here we are
it's fun, hush
I had my own doubts that I could do it when I started 😂
I was thinking LED light strips could be cool, but I like the look of the bulbs!
Great news on the planning. This project just gets better and better.
Thanks, some big videos hopefully coming soon 😀
The speed you reach on the hoverboard trolley is quite something! After a few beers things could get interesting . . . 🙂
Yes I think it will be safer once it is lined with wood 😂
The lights look really good!
That’s an amazing job Dave
Thank you
So glad it seems to be going your way. Happy digging....
Thank you, hopefully I will have good week on it this week 😀
Awesome Dave, so happy for you. Don't forget to clean the outside edges of the tracks too 😀
Yes I need to hoover them up 😀
@Tornado_Dave make a brush attachment to your cart that cleans as you zip up and down the tunnel 🤪
Saw you on fb thought i give it a watch but what a Awesome video keep up the good work definitely going to be great watch for the future 👍
Awesome thank you!
Roots of some plants can definitely go deep to find moisture. If you have a layer of gravel if collects and keeps water so the roots travel down it. We have pipes at 2-3 m sometimes and the tree roots find their way in to them
But the roots don’t go through the red gravel above it
Loving the progress, keep it up.
Appreciate it! And I will try my best 😀
Nice update! So glad the planning permission for your original build is going through! You worked out a good alternative but I’m sure that was a great relief!
Enjoy yourself and ice that elbow!
Cracking job. I am amazed by your motivation and reward. God almighty that must cost a lot in stainless, let alone time!
Thanks for the video
Thanks 👍 it’s galvanised steel so not too expensive, would of cost a bit too much for my budget in stainless 😀

Cracking progress Dave. Can’t wait for the excavation!
The Goonies and The Ring movie vibes in one 😅😅
Congrats on the planning... sort of 😂 When you doing a collaboration at colins tunnel. Id love to be part of it
Hopefully soon if we can fit it in 😀
Your doing an amazing job there and an inspiration to the rest of us.
Thanks for the nice comment 😀
Awesome progress on this! Like the new signage! I think it was a good idea to incorporate that lift for the buckets of dirt! Bringing old relics back to life such awesome thing! Well done!
Glad you like the mix of the content 😀
You missed a Stalag Luft III tunnel. After the escape and Harry was sealed up, they started a new one out of the theatre and called it George.
Awesome news on the planning, Dave. We’ll finally get to see it finished one day.
Yes hopefully more progress now 😀
Great video Dave! I'm honestly surprised you haven't made some sort of giant hoover with a tube into the tunnel to remove material 😅
I was going to do it, I thought use a scrap engine powered by another with a big tank etc but then I thought I will have the tunnel finished before I get that done and the pipe would cost a fortune, maybe next tunnel 😂
@@Tornado_Dave Exactly my thoughts, nice material for it. I think it would work! 2nd life for the sports dumper 😅
I’ve enjoyed every foot of this dig 😂
So have I 😀
Epics news Dave !
Great work so far , keep digging 🏆
Thank you 😀
Excellent
Brilliant news about the planning mate. Looking forward to the next video!
If it’s never been excavated or never been dug out, you can possibly run a small gold vine with all the dirt you’re already taken out and I know you’ll find something
Absolutely brilliant Dave , would love to visit some day 👍
Great video's,, love watching the progress..
Glad you like them! 😀
Very exciting, nice job Dave!
Looking 😮 great 👍.
The tunnel train looks so much fun.
It was till I caught my elbow on the side at the end of the video 😂
Great news, glad you stuck with the original plan after all, can't wait to follow the progress!
Yes it was always my preferred route, can’t wait to get it built 😀
You should pan the dirt for gold! Lots of cobble stones in there! If you find it, this channel will explode with subscribers!
If I find gold It would be a bonus 😀
''which I am.....at some point'' lol, good on ya.
I will see all the terms and conditions at the end of the week once I’ve finished digging it all out hopefully 😂
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of tunnel stays Tornado Dave from the swift completion of his appointed digging!
Absolutely brilliant news about the planning 👍👍👍
I new you wouldn't give in, that wouldn't be the Dave I know.
I’m sure they will, but I will see if they slow me down much or not
Cheers Ronnie 😀

Geddon Dave, congrats on the planning the only way is up now 😅😅 awesome video by the way
Fantastic and great news. Was going to offer a free weeks labour to do some digging for you but looks like you have it covered. Well played Dave 👊🏻💪🏻
Yes the tunnel job is about done now, hopefully I will break through next video 😀
Definitely deserve more subscribers............
They are going up ,gradually 😂 I’m sure by the end of the year the channel will have grown a lot more 😀
Getting there Dave can't wait for the extension build great job
Thank you 😀
Hoping for the best Dave looking forward to seeing more content 👍🍺
Thanks 👍 next time I’m hoping to join the tunnel into the hole 😀
Amazing you get reception or wifi in the tunnel
I have a router down there 😀
Good news finally on the planning front and the original design 👍
Yes back on plan A after I had redrawn it all 😂
Great news!
Mate id be siving for gold in that river bed material
Yes I need to 😀
How cool 😮
You watch your head, I'd feel better if you had a hard hat on when your flying down the tunnel
Love the content though 😁
He doesn't go fast enough to bang his head, though the hard hat may be cumbersome, it does add style..
Dave, how long will that plated sheet steel last down there? Is it galvanised or Zinc? Thanks, great project
This project is awesome. But the motorized tunnel sled feels like a brutal injury waiting to happen.
I know about that my arm is still hurting 😂
@@Tornado_Dave What if your head hits the top?
Superb as always 👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
It'll come down, at some point.... sounds like a job for your grandson!
Yes let’s see how much they want it took down 😂
Cool, a claustrophobic future death trap!
I don't know how you manage to work on your back like that for so long. I spend 5 minutes on my back working on my car and I'm absolutely beat. It's crazy how exhausting it is to hold your head up while working on your back.
After 6 months you get used to it 😂
It would be cool if you went deeper and add a 2 story bunker
Found this channel from Colin's - very cool, but I honestly have no idea what this guy is building haha. Very small little tunnels underground that he has to crawl through? Terrifying.
Designed for electric tunnel carts and connecting 2 underground bunkers, the theme of the tunnel is the great escape 😀
@@Tornado_Dave Thanks for the detail! For some reason I get great enjoyment out of watching people build tunnels, so I'll subscribe and continue watching :)
Would love to see the bottom of the well
Ok if it drys up a bit more I will include it soon 😀
Possibly a bind weed root, that stuff will go down miles
There is no growth above it though, it just stops in that layer of grit
If that hoverboard is using its original battery I wouldn't like to be down there if it decided to self-combust as they do sometimes - lots of toxic fumes. Lead-acid batteries would be much safer for use in a confined space.
Yes it’s lithium, I was under the impression they normally burn when being charged though and I can do that outside the bunker 😀
@@Tornado_Dave They can also fail during discharge - probably a small chance but very serious consequences if it did when you're deep in the tunnel trapped behind it
Its the roots of evil so dont touch them!
Yes Dave! 💪🏻
And council's wonder why we hate them , they are power trippers
There's light at the end of the tunnel. 😅you have made a lot of progress
Yes it was good to get a lot of digging done, in the jcb now and it’s a bit easier 😂
I think you have a cookie in your tunnel
First video I am watching so no idea if covered before but how are you getting mobile or WiFi signal while down the end of a 25ft metal tube underground? Do you have an access point aimed down the tunnel?
I have a Wi-Fi extender that runs through the plug sockets somehow, I will try and include it on the next video 😀
@@Tornado_Dave ah must be a powerline device. Was just interested as I work designing networks and WiFi and an underground small metal tube has to be one of the worst RF environments I can imagine. I can almost hear Bernard Cribbins, you need a bowler hat, F.A.B. Dave
Considering the fact that prior to ww2 that area was likely farms, the root could be no older than 100.
Could be but it doesn’t look like the ground has been touched above it
How much has all the sheet metal cost you so far?
I think it costs about £50 per foot so about £2k including the escape hatch
@Tornado_Dave that's actually really good. I woukd have thought heaps more.
Thanks for responding!
You're building metal walls that directly touch the wet soil? That doesn't seem wise.
Galvanised steel, then going to be wood lined
Cock on mate. I live in Chesy and it would be good to see this project being as I`m an ex miner.
Ruddy politics and nonsense. I like the path you've chosen. Make 'em make a fuss about an eventuality.
Sounds like they wanted to punish you because of the conservatory.
Yes just wanted to tell me off 😂
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮
GOLDDDDDDD
👍
Did u watch peaky blinders and figure you want to build a tunnel? Hahahahahaha
Did they dig a tunnel? I don’t remember that
Argh, not sure if I want you to dig the pit then break into it, Or just keep digging in the pit until the soil falls down and opens the pit!
It will take along time to dig out the bunker from below 😂
@@Tornado_Dave I know, but the fun of making a sinkhole/collapse thou...
First comment!!!
It is a good build. I do not like it because you did not make it where you can walk down. It would be 100% better if you could just walk down.

Yes, absolutely, what they said was unsuitable is now good, I’m pretty sure I will have to take the conservatory down before I start though 😀
there is only one thing to say TBM TBM now and then, just kidding. god job by the way
