Ummm,....the Mets aren't likely sellers? Aren't likely? As of today they sit in a wildcard spot. I think it's safe to say they'll be buyers.
not to mention the Mets swept the Yankees, So i dont see anything tough about that series again....

What?! The Mets, even with a playoff spot, they have no shot at beating the Phillies or Dodgers and the front office knows this. They’re on a little hot streak that won’t last. They are going to sell off pieces like Alonso Marte other FAs and bullpen pieces for prospects.

I don't think they will gut the farm system to someone like Tanner Scot. I think they look to bolster their bullpen from within and adding one outside piece. A lot depends on how they do against the Yankees, Braves and Twins.

The Mets are a dangerous wild card team if they get in. They just need a bullpen arm or 2. They hit the ball as well as anyone and Alonso hasn't even heated up. Maybe a month and a half ago they would have sold, but not now. Plus they will get killed in the NYC media if they sell.
I will say this on Tampa. When was the last season they didnt have the majority of their starting rotation on the IL? Like it seems every year at least 3 starters are on the long term IL. Be curious what teams would offer for Eflin though.
The Yankees need to fire Boone over the All-Star break, DFA Grisham,DFA Lehmaiu, and trade for a centerfield or infielder. Kevin Pillar is a gold glove outfielder who is having a great season. They could probably get him for a middle-level prospect.

I will say, trade Cortes & Rodon. Then, involve Lamehu and Torres in a trade for a good bat/ outfielder... Finally, add few prospects to persue an elite closer...

@@johnnyd63 Under Boone, this team has built a big lead before the allstar break only to collapse. This is a very talented team that has no fire, and Grisham and Lehmaiu have been so bad, that almost player you pickup would be as good as them.

We’re forgetting an important factor on all this, we’ve seen how stupid these owners/gms are when it comes to trades. We might think a pitcher is gonna get a huge haul and then gets traded for pennies
Values for pitchers are going down, their arms are all ticking time bombs these days
@@howard2031 I agree. The need is greater, but the risk is higher. Some team may roll the dice and make a trade, but I think more teams will roll the dice by holding what they have and hoping for the best.
Not pitchers who have additional years of control. They are the most costly resource in baseball. In fact, they hardly ever get traded.
Do the chances improve if the O's pony'ed up Basallo for Oaklands Miller or Detroits Skubal player for player? I think the odds severely decrease!

I think any team that trades for Crochet will do so with the intent to move him to the bullpen so save his arm and then stretch him out in September so he can start in October. Its risky and would chnage the value he brings back if teams treat it as they're trading for a reliever. But I think the overall interest is so high from teams that hes gonna get moved.

I feel bad for Jim thinking the Blue Jays are going to compete over the next several seasons. Blue Jays ownership may need Vlad Jr to help sell ballpark amenities however, Vlad Jr doesn't need the Blue Jays. No reason to resign with Toronto. He definitely has a higher chance of 0% to be traded. The Blue Jays window is slammed shut.
Now days, 12 teams make the playoffs. That's almost half the teams getting into postseason. There are less teams dumping players. Right now, every team has had pitcher injuries and is looking for help. There is very little help available. The prices may be too high and a lot of teams drop out of the buy mode. They stand pat. The fans are screaming for trades, but I don't think much will be happening. GM's will probably ignore the fans and do what's actually best. Every year a team makes a trade during the season, they increase the need to do it again the next season...until they have no more prospects to trade away.
As a pirates fan, if they go after low dangling fruit AS USUAL, they will ONCE AGAIN lose this season! Jazz ( mia) should be their first priority then maybe trading with Baltimore, LAA or Oakland

I get it this wasn't the year they have hoped for but also Clevland and KC took massive jumps that I don't think anybody saw coming so I think next year there's bound to be regression from those 2 clubs so I do think that in 2025 and 2026 Detroit can contend for the division tile headlined by an elite pitching rotation
So true. Fans of teams that need pitching are really under estimating what it will take to get Skubal. Detroit doesn’t need to trade him, so the offer needs to be enough to get the conversation started. Most “offers” I’ve seen put out there by fans are laughable. You don’t trade a Cy Young contender on the cheap.
Great video Jim as usual. How about my Phillies sweeping Dodgers and Orioles getting swept at home by Cubs. Phillies are now 23-13 vs teams above .500 which leads MLB. Phillies pitching completely shut down Ohtani, Smith, and Phillies killer Freddie Freeman. Held Dodgers to 5 runs total in 3 games.
