- Blue Crabs, in this video we'll be setting our blue crab traps (pots) in the Indian River Lagoon area. We baited all our traps with chicken. After letting our Blue Crab Traps soak for 2 days we pulled them and ended up with 24 blue crabs. When we got home we boiled the blue crabs.

Joyce is such a good sport, putting out and lifting those crab pots. Then coming home to whip up some delicious crab meal. Sam, she’s a keeper.
She won't let me pull the traps If I pulled them I'd make her cry lol. It's part of our keep moving plan, not to get old lol. Thanks for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors I can believe that Sam. She gets so excited at times when the nets or traps come up with crabs. I appreciate you guys sharing your cooking, crabbing, shrimping and fishing adventures.

Hey Sam and Joyce.
Watching from Swansea south.
Love yalls content.
Tim I heard that's a great place to live. We hope everything is going well for you.
Judging by the number of females caught, that area of the Indian river must have a high salinity that they use for hatching their eggs. When a crab sheds its shell, the salinity of the water determines how big the new shell will be. The fresher the water, the bigger the crabs.
Always a pleasure watching your videos, and it doesn't cost anything to subscribe.
Nice hearing from you again. You're right, the salinity in that area is high. Thanks again for Watching
Looks delicious!
Thanks and Thanks for Watching our videos

Great crabbing I use Tony's creole spice on my chicken bait it works awsome I swear on it I never though to take skin off I will try that ty for awsome video
I never heard of putting spice on my bait, I'll have to try it thanks for the tip and Thanks for Watching
Crab steam facial!
Heeeey guys, ready for our trip.
Right, let's catch some crabs
Use of tongs to pick up crabs on the boat deck, brilliant! We just used to use our hands but your Blue crabs look feistier than our Oregon Dungeness.
You're right blue crabs are a lot faster than Dungeness Crab. Years ago we were in Oregon catching Dungeness Crab and I told our son and daughter that you have to be very slow to let a Dungeness Crab pinch your fingers. A few minutes later I heard our daughter screaming, I turned around and saw that a crab had both of her hands one in each claw like handcuffs. After our son finally stopped laughing at her he helped her free herself from the big crab. Thanks for Watching our videos
I am so glad you got the wind resistant mic's, I watched a 2 year old "Stone crab" video you made and the wind was terrible. 🦀🌬
You're right, the mics do a pretty good job. Thanks for Watching
I bet the 3rd one will have the most crab.
We'll see lol.
Love you guys❤
Thanks and Thanks for Watching our videos
❤ On to the next one😁
Right, Thanks for Watching
And so considerate. Not making those crabs eat thru the skin😀.
We're watching their cholesterol lol. Thanks for Watching

I'm so jealous🥺. I miss going out blue crabin with my grandparents. And if me and Grandpa went and did have a good take. He'd always stop by the local crab shack and pick up a dozen. So it looked like we had a really good day lol... RIP ( GRAMPA PANE ) And ( GRAMMA TAKACK ) .
He sounds like a great guy. Thanks for Watching our videos
I would love to know all you hot crabing spots in Ormond beach
There are some good spots in the Tomoka Basin area. Thanks for Watching our videos
GOD DAMMIT NOW I WANT CRAB FOR BREAKFAST
Lol
Joyce with Sam driving that boat you will dry off real fast.
Rose, I told her to hang on lol.
Oh Wow. Nice Catch. I love you and your channel. Yall ought to try in Central FL. Chassahowitza area. Anyways an idea.
Thanks, We'll look into it, thanks for the tip.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors It's beautiful out there. I know it's a good crab area. Beautiful springs at head waters and then into the flats and spoil islands. Be careful for rocks on initial launch and first half mile. Anyways it's a safe place and gorgeous. I LOVE YOU MUCH. Wish I waswith you.😘
Great to see you back on the water. I’m curious- how do you decide whether you will clean them before or after cooking?
Several reasons, if we're in Mississippi we always clean them first so it's not so messy in our room when we eat them, if we don't have a lot and we're going to pick and eat we cook them whole, if we're going to use the shells we cook them whole, if we don't like the water they came out of we clean them if we have a lot of crab and want to make crab cakes we clean them so we can pick them faster. Thanks for Watching our videos
It ain't far from gumbo time, so catch the big ones.
Thanks for Watching
I see stuffed crab that are frozen in a bag usually say Louisiana on the bag . I'm guessing the stuffing is freeze dried bread with a couple of bits of onion and even less bell pepper . The crab is probably water that a processor blanches theire crab with. But the fancy restaurant will charge $ 5 a piece for them after shoving them in a microwave.
I'm sure you're right. That's how they do things nowadays, we were in a restaurant recently and asked if the mashed potatoes were made in house and the waiter said that they come in a plastic bag and they heat them up lol.
I’m guessing you will be up to 14 K next week. I’m hoping for you.
Maybe with a little luck. Thanks again for Watching
Nice mess of crabs you got there today. Sam, did that y'all get a new camera. Your clarity was really good on this video.
Same camera Ed, I guess the sun was right lol.
Old couple where are those life jackets y’all making me nervous be careful
It looks worse than what it is. Thanks for Watching our videos
Question : How long does it take ya to pick the 2 dozen ?? thanks MB ..
It took me about 1 1/2 hours, I'm slow and fussy (no shells). Thanks again for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors , thanks ....
I love deviled crab, curious to see if it's similar to stuffed blue crab!!
It's similar but Joyce always does something different. The video will be published Wednesday. Thanks for Watching our videos
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Can't wait!!!
Nice mess of crabs. Maybe next trip there in a couple of weeks the big boys will invade your area. Good luck and thank you.
I hope so, Thanks again for Watching our videos
How do you know where to find your traps. Do you mark it on GPS?
If I put them in a straight line they're easy to find but if I scatter them I sometimes use the gps. Thanks for Watching
Do you use fresh chicken or rotten chicken? Or does it matter?
I think fresh chicken works best, that's what we use. Thanks for Watching
Question have y’all ever catch a sea turtle in your traps. From what I’m seeing is when you pull your traps there’s no bait and very little crabs to pick thru. I’m guessing they are eating your bait and getting out of your turtle excluders
In over 60 years I've never caught a turtle. Something is eating the bait in the Indian River (salt water) but not in the St Johns River (freshwater). Thanks for Watching
you ever get soft shell????How are soft shell when they deep fry them whole..I was going to go to a restaurant and try them
Soft shell crab are our favorite, but you have to have a tank to put the crab in until it sheds then take it out right away before the shell gets hard. Thanks for Watching
What is to stop someone else coming along and emptying your traps before you do?
Nothing, except that it's a felony and FWC doesn't play games. Thanks for Watching our videos
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Oh ok...gotcha! 👍
So going to your local fish monger for fish scraps is not the better choice for bait?
We usually have carcasses from fish we catch but sometimes we get a good deal on chicken which we use when we handline crabs (it works better). Thanks for Watching

Great mess of crabs your wife is pretty strong to be lifting the cages out of the water on every outing . I NOW KNOW HOW TO MAKE DIFERANT MEALS USING CRABS THANKS TO YOUR WIFE .
She likes to pull them, at our age you use it or lose it but they're really not that heavy. Thanks again for Watching our videos
