    You were too eager to get back into combat you skipped that entire dialogue that explained how you revive sailors :)
    You're absolutely right though, there are a lot of systems but theyre all very underwhelming. I wanted more time on my boat and less on the island. The ship combat I found to be simple, strategic, and addicting. I look forward to to future updates!
    Couple of random tips from my experience so far:
    Attack the enemy ship's helms to wear down their shields.
    Always take the loot or upgrades when you finish a battle. You can sleep and instantly repair your ship. time has no meaning in the game.
    Sailors get abilities and lvl 2 and 5. They are randomly selected from a large list and some skills are significantly better than others. One ability for example makes the pirate immune to shark attacks. Each sailor gets 1 passive ability and 1 active ability.
    Hire sailors with high intelligence. They level up faster and wont break equipment when attempting to repair it.
    Invest in HP early on or you will constantly waste money reviving or hiring new pirates.

    • @enter_feeling6042
      @enter_feeling6042 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      1. attack the weapons, or the helm, just focusing on the helm gets you killed quickly, 2. choose what you need after the battle. 3. hire sailors with high stats, not just with high int, you can always gain more int later but you want the overall stats to be high, 3. dont overinvest in hp, the stat points are extremely limited.

    It could use some more variety in the quests and reasons to go out on the ocean. Stuff like delivering cargo to a specific person (with the option to steal it), wooing a governors daughter (or kidnapping her for ransom), escorting traders (or ambushing them), attacking certain ports (or bribing / sneaking your way in), smuggling goods (or reporting the smugglers). Just more things to do and decisions to make.
    It'd also be nice if you could repair destroyed ships and assign someone as captain so you could have more of a fleet rather than just the one ship.

If they took the time to improve the story and introduce elements better I think people would enjoy it more. • @CT2507
      @CT2507 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's not fair. If something is good why not use the same idea. Big game companies do the same. Just have a look at how many mmo's copied WoW's UI. Why? Because it does the job very well. No need to change what already is good. The changes should be in the game mechanics and game content.

    The combat reminds me of some kinda old mobile game with 1v1 td-management rts. It had a good story too for such a small game. But the combat was very intense and explosive. (It was called REDCON or smth, just had a flashback)

  • @jayjasespud
    @jayjasespud 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If the devs haven't already, they should look at a mobile game called Pirate Power and it's ship combat.
    Stardew Valley also has a rogue-lite section when you go mining, so it's not unusual for these types of games to bend or blend genres. Also, as much as I love Stardew, nobody would call that game's combat.. good. Or involved.
    I'd like to see the game lean more into the ship stuff and be light on the "chores," like watering, but I don't mind base management.

  • @whatisbestinlife8112
    @whatisbestinlife8112 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Completely in agreement on how attractive looking this game is. I'd think I'd like this game more overall though if it is to keep the base-building it's more along the lines of you find/hire farmers and others to basically automate that aspect for you as supplementary to resource gathering while the gameplay concentrates on the ship, the exploration, pirating, treasure hunting, crew building and ship building to more complex levels and more complex combat. Seeking out quests and storylines in the open world. FTL is very focused on its roguelike approach and there's no continuity or building between runs really. But an open world like this (and if randomization is possible for new playthroughs) could provide a kind of FTL-like with deeper, more extended playthroughs that we actually build up our characters (so it hurts even more if/when we lose them sort of like Xcom), so long as they actual combat and ship mechanics are themselves deepened and balanced well. One shining aspect of FTL is how sharply tuned its ship combat generally is, while giving a good amount of room to explore different approaches.
    One cool ship weapon they could add (if they haven't already) is balloons/bigger pet birds that can be sent over the enemy ship to drop bombs of various types (structural damage, crew damage, slowing movement/reloads, etc). Along with perhaps sending out harassing/damaging swarms of crows or parrots.

    Longer battles and way larger ships, combat looks complicated at a glance but its rather basic. Farming feels unnecessary, little slow and... borring. Maybe if escapades were longer and farming served as a way to make supplies etc would make it meaningfull (definetly needs to be feel tedious imho)? Maybe game takes of in this direction later, idk, if so then the start feels really slow imho

  • @KidMangaX
    @KidMangaX 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Respectfully, I like the "Harvest Moon" elements of the game, although I wish they would have been implemented differently. It's much too basic for a game to start you off with all of these lv 1. tools and expect you to want to use them again, for the umpteenth time. It would make _much more sense_ if you had to actively decide to buy a tool, because you are _incentivized_ and actively _want_ to use that tool to pursue a specific growth strategy.
    I do think there's too much story. Then again, the alternative to that is to have something like Pixel Piracy, where there is absolutely no text and the game feels "unpolished." So, it's a mixed bag. What I hate, however, are these completely tasteless stories that, for some reason, have become so popular amongst millennial writers. For instance, what kind of island is called "Seablip"? You cannot even select the sex of your character in this game, but you can give them pink hair and certain hairstyles which imply a specific gender... What's the deal with that? It's just so cutesy, unrealistic, and post-modern in its design, that I can't get behind it.

    • @anitacrumbly
      @anitacrumbly 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      what's your infatuation with needing to let the game know what sex you are also i've never seen a dye box with any restrictions on it on who can and can't use it same with hairstyles lol all these rules you make up for yourself are silly and keep you inside of a cell of your own making.

  • @anitacrumbly
    @anitacrumbly 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If all you want is a pirate combat just play a game that does only that. Skipping over story and impatiently trying to get to the part you want is what is making it unenjoyable. Also you seem to not like games with a combination of mechanics. maybe this game is just not for you and it's not the issue of the game itself. What i see is a good pirate game that has a story and other things to do within the game. Also it can be a cozy engaging roguelike there is nothing wrong with that. also this is the first video the was recommended to me by youtube and it wasn't a good impression I would say if you don't vibe with a game don't show it because it won't lead to subs or likes.

    Being able to have the same number of crew as systems seems like a flaw. You end up just having one person on each system and just sitting and waiting. If there were fewer crew and you could put two people on the same system it would add a lot of decision making and skill and be a lot less boring. Also the farming and stuff just seems kind of pointless at the moment. Yeah you can do it, but why?

    But deciding to make your game a 2d sidescroller (as opposed to top-down like Stardew Valley) really limits what you can EVER do with the game..
    As a dev, and as a player.
    I really dont think its a good choice for farming / exploration / building style games.
    Yes i'll say it, i think Terraria would have been even better if it was top-down instead, so you had more directions to explore than just "was that thing to the left or right".

      I'm not a Terraria fanboy by any means, but it is easily one of the most beloved games of all time, and making comments like just make no sense, especially since you are a self described dev. @@muzzypwnyou I personally prefer Starbound since there's so much more choice in character creation... you actually get 'character' out of it instead of basically picking gender and a couple of colors. With mods it's at least as fun as Terraria could ever be (much better imo) but this is all beside the point. These diggy/buildy side-scrollers totally have their place and they're fantastic games for what they do. This game just doesn't seem to stand up to the competition. At least not yet.
