Almost the exact same thing happened this week. Oil tanker was seized 5 minutes off of Poole. SBS responded within 9 minutes. No casualties, just some awful pirates in custody. Can’t wait for the eventual episode on the incident.
the reason is because traditionally we have only ever had a small regular military, so we have had to focus more on quality than quantity. because the US has such a massive military budget and a huge army it isn't as necessary for them to be as specialised. they can simply overwhelm with force and superior equipment. but the british have to find some way of multiplying force so the emphasis has had to be on quality. that said the US special forces and british special forces do a lot of training together and share intelligence and methods etc.

Love their motto - "By strength and guile" Had seen an ancient motto "by strength , not stealth", that stealth now being seen as a plus by the modern army as the end result now trumps the journey to get there. Nobody cares if you were heroic or brave, they care about what you accomplished. On a side note, just read a book on the SBS and learned of the inter-unit rivalry between SBS and SAS,. it appears that the SAS reguard the SBS as inferior and the SBS equally think of the SAS as arrogant and self-important. I suppose no matter how you look at it, both groups are 'top of their game' though each differs a bit in their expertise. I served in a British infantry unit and remember the regimental rivalries - serious at the time, but kind of funny now that I look back on it.
To all the bloodthirsty.....Yeah, I get it.....been there.....What you need to understand is that to be "the good guys", means control of the trigger...an additional risk to yourself by considering what's right and wrong....this is a gift of honor that a warrior gives to himself, his enemy, his friends, and the higher ideals he serves.....We're the good guys.....Well done, lads.
Why take back a ship that was only carrying our flag for tax reasons? This ship was in our waters, therefore we're gonna react to any threat in our borders.
@@cheekboy7247 Please enlighten me. You seem to know when SF response is required. You cannot compare the above situation to that of the Iranian seizure. The crew of the Italian ship was in immient danger, the crew of Stena Impero were not in any danger, they were looked after and diplomatic relations between Iran and Britian were ongoing regarding the ship we seized from them. Stena Impero was also moved into Iranian waters, infact was moved off the coast of one of their heavily guarded naval bases. The risks were higher, as well as the stakes. Special Forces response is of last resort, when all else fails & the potential that hostages might be killed, or already are being killed. Sometimes common sense is all that is needed. I am sure SBS & SAS teams were on standby in Dubai, if the situation had taken a turn for the worse, but it was unlikely.

That said...the GSG9 was trained by the SAS in the formation phases. At Mogadischu, two SAS men led the assault by breaching the aircraft entryway (they were deemed specialists, and the German govt chose to take all measures for the safety of the hostages - on its own a great credit to the political process then in place).
I believe the Canadians have greatly accredited SF units too...not to mention the US SEALs, Green Berets, etc etc.
They recaptured/resecured that ship in LESS TIME than it took me to watch this video lmao
That's got to be your worst nightmare knowing the SAS/SBS are coming for you lol...these guys don't mess about
Just wanna say, this channel is such a testament to what our special forces do knowing they are shrouded in secrecey. The best on the planet......FACT!
@soflo23 Well it's his opinion, he doesn't need to prove it.
I don't remember hearing about this event at all. I never knew modern day pirates became a threat this close to mainland Europe.
Not sure what they were thinking sailing straight into the lion's den.
Ikr, 2018 wasn't that long ago and I don't remember seeing this in the news
They probably wanted to be arrested in British territory.
Than they serve a short jail time and after that life in England on benefits
That’s why it wasn’t news
Probably trying to sign on and get council house they got it all wrong
Not exactly a 'threat' though, was it? More of an inconvenience.
Guess the 7 stowaways on the ‘Nave Andromeda’ didn’t learn from this haha.
Thank god we have our warrior angels the SAS , SBS and others we don't hear about
Thank you from a civilian

Outstanding, nobody else in the world can lay claim to be better than British Special Forces.!!
Almost the exact same thing happened this week. Oil tanker was seized 5 minutes off of Poole. SBS responded within 9 minutes. No casualties, just some awful pirates in custody. Can’t wait for the eventual episode on the incident.
Great upload mate, we appreciate it very much thank you. Love from Britains forces 🇬🇧
Me(a yank): yep the British still have the best special forces in the world
the reason is because traditionally we have only ever had a small regular military, so we have had to focus more on quality than quantity. because the US has such a massive military budget and a huge army it isn't as necessary for them to be as specialised. they can simply overwhelm with force and superior equipment. but the british have to find some way of multiplying force so the emphasis has had to be on quality. that said the US special forces and british special forces do a lot of training together and share intelligence and methods etc.
UKSF the best no questions or doubt whatsoever
No doubt about it
*SASR* hehe
Not disagreeing, but really any sf team could’ve done that
That’s why the elite Irish army rangers train with sas and seals
@@rob03tt46 alot SF train with SAS or use them as a role model
All the stories I've heard about our Special Forces make me feel incredibly safe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world.
Have you heard of America ? They can wipe out any nation at there choosing and would take multiple superpowers to stop them.
@@ToxicMrSmith Sure they could, but if they tried they'd receive a few nukes for their trouble, so they won't.
We're a valuable asset to the US, they'd rather have us as allies.
@@_Raven_ just saying that when it comes to ultimate safety and power it's the us everyday. And I doubt anyone is going to play nuke games with them either. Even Russia isn't that stupid as we've seen so far.
@@ToxicMrSmith Russia correctly takes the UK very seriously as a threat as well, as we've seen recently from their threat to nuke us. Maybe we can't steamroll Russia the way the US can, but ideally we won't have to. And if we do, America will be right there with us.
We could also factor in a lot of other aspects, but that's an entirely different debate
@@_Raven_ no one takes the UK seriously except for the fact they have the US as allies. And don't get me wrong I don't think people take Australia seriously either. Point is the only reason that the world isn't ruled by communist China is because of the usa. None of us could take them on without the yanks.
Who else is here after the very similar raid on a tanker off the Isle of Wight this evening?
The SBS boys went home with massive blue balls.
More likely they felt relief that no one, on either side, was hurt.
Looool!
Not every soldier is a bloodthirsy manic. You clearly never served.
Man oh man.. Could you actually imagine having 20 SBS, armed to the teeth, pumped up and ready go, coming for yo ass lol.. man oh man. Like seriously. 🇺🇲🇬🇧. These colours don't run mate.. 👍👍
Not surprising that the wannabe hijackers gave up, immediately on sight of the SBS team. I would imagine that the choice given was pretty stark.
The team should have shot the fuckers to send a message. It used to be a tradition in SF where if you are deployed in a situation like that you kill the fucking lot. Now they look weak.
@@mikechedzoy4866 Nah. I don't think that any reasonable person thinks that UKSF are "weak". The unreasonable ones are probably stupid enough to get themselves wiped some other way, before they get anywhere near a UK soldier.

I remember this I could see this, this was like 10 minutes away from me. When the ship docked after the incident I could see it from my work which I was on the other side of the river.
Brilliant job lads 👍🏻
As being British, we just do it quick no dramas all over. Back in time for beacon and eggs with a cuppa tea.
And the hijackers lived happily ever after in the UK. The End.
No, they were convicted, jailed and then deported.
Wouldn't that infringe their human rights?
I live down the road from the SBS camp in Poole, always seeing them train around Hamworthy and surrounding seas, amazing!
The hijackers didnt have any hostages for leverage either. I believe the crew along with the captain locked themselves in a room. Hard to negotiate when you've got nothing to negotiate with , haha. Glad to hear the SBS getting some much deserved recognition.
Shout out to the Brits from Canada 🤘

Not probably....definitely!
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when the boys from Hereford were told to stand down 'cos the SBS is gonna do it........
Be like ho fiddle sticks the boat boys going in Flipping hec
They would have known in advance that the shaky boat service would be assaulting the target being water borne no drama the lads from H are the go to firm when it’s a land based job
Why
What's the issue with the sbs doing this? 22 reg have one boat troop but aren't as readily to deploy on maritime counter terrorism.
SAS would have stood down with no dramas it’s a maritime issue, you would have had QRF wanting in the wings ready to engage if called upon.

Nice job to all involved that's why we need these special people. God bless all.
Not to victim blame, but you're telling me 29 sailors couldn't overpower 4 men who didn't even have guns?
Same in American military at times
To all the bloodthirsty.....Yeah, I get it.....been there.....What you need to understand is that to be "the good guys", means control of the trigger...an additional risk to yourself by considering what's right and wrong....this is a gift of honor that a warrior gives to himself, his enemy, his friends, and the higher ideals he serves.....We're the good guys.....Well done, lads.
the four men and al their families are now living happily in the UK
That's probably why they hijacked the ship in the first place so we can pay for their bed and board.

@@ShanksNLMB did we?i didn't know that, glad to hear it,it was really pissing me off that we weren't doing anything about it!
