The SBS and SAS are not "on the same level" as you stated. They're 2 entirely different types of units/operators. The difference is along the same lines as the US Navy SEALS and SWCC.

@@unitforce7417 Quite rightly said. Sometimes the rep is so great that the just-as-tenacious training of the other SF of the world gets overlooked. That said...the GSG9 was trained by the SAS in the formation phases. At Mogadischu, two SAS men led the assault by breaching the aircraft entryway (they were deemed specialists, and the German govt chose to take all measures for the safety of the hostages - on its own a great credit to the political process then in place). I believe the Canadians have greatly accredited SF units too...not to mention the US SEALs, Green Berets, etc etc.

I remember reading a few news reports just after it happened saying one of the crew members caught the men hiding (near the engine room i think or in an open cargo container) I don't know if its fake news but this is the reason i know that they did it and also the reason they didn't prep weapons beforehand. the reason is because traditionally we have only ever had a small regular military, so we have had to focus more on quality than quantity. because the US has such a massive military budget and a huge army it isn't as necessary for them to be as specialised. they can simply overwhelm with force and superior equipment. but the british have to find some way of multiplying force so the emphasis has had to be on quality. that said the US special forces and british special forces do a lot of training together and share intelligence and methods etc.
These guys are doing a job, of which they are very good at not looking for medals or congratuations or being told how good they are, they do it becouce they are trainned to do it and it needed doing god bless these guys. Keep up fellers.
Almost the exact same thing happened this week. Oil tanker was seized 5 minutes off of Poole. SBS responded within 9 minutes. No casualties, just some awful pirates in custody. Can’t wait for the eventual episode on the incident.

Look at the Iranian Embassy siege, it's a fact no other special force could pull it off so smoothly even of the few hiccups that did happen. This is such a childish view on things, the majority of people appreciate the special forces and also the regular forces, they’re allowed to appreciate celebrities too and their talents, very narrow minded to only appreciate what you think is worth the approval. @@unitforce7417 Quite rightly said. Sometimes the rep is so great that the just-as-tenacious training of the other SF of the world gets overlooked.
That said...the GSG9 was trained by the SAS in the formation phases. At Mogadischu, two SAS men led the assault by breaching the aircraft entryway (they were deemed specialists, and the German govt chose to take all measures for the safety of the hostages - on its own a great credit to the political process then in place).
I believe the Canadians have greatly accredited SF units too...not to mention the US SEALs, Green Berets, etc etc.

I remember reading a few news reports just after it happened saying one of the crew members caught the men hiding (near the engine room i think or in an open cargo container) I don't know if its fake news but this is the reason i know that they did it and also the reason they didn't prep weapons beforehand. Spur of the moment kinda thing. They probably didn't even know they were that close to the British shoreline as well. I can't remember where i read this thought could of been from any of the major news websites.

the reason is because traditionally we have only ever had a small regular military, so we have had to focus more on quality than quantity. because the US has such a massive military budget and a huge army it isn't as necessary for them to be as specialised. they can simply overwhelm with force and superior equipment. but the british have to find some way of multiplying force so the emphasis has had to be on quality. that said the US special forces and british special forces do a lot of training together and share intelligence and methods etc.
Only 5 minutes, it takes me that time to look for my keys before leaving my house! These guys don't mess about.

Almost the exact same thing happened this week. Oil tanker was seized 5 minutes off of Poole. SBS responded within 9 minutes. No casualties, just some awful pirates in custody. Can’t wait for the eventual episode on the incident.

@Rob Wilton It's about training and professionalism which the SAS and the SBS dominates over everyone else. Look at the Iranian Embassy siege, it's a fact no other special force could pull it off so smoothly even of the few hiccups that did happen. Knowing how stuck up and stubborn the Americans are they even have to admit the British special forces is the best by a milestone
@Rob Wilton Yes there was other reason such as the Loyalist Volunteer Force commanded by Billy Wright which was the smallest loyalist paramilitary force which was only targeting IRA and INLA members throughout Co. Armagh, intelligence wars by MI5 and Special Branch by paying of informers. Anyways most special forces throughout the world is based on the SAS as they are the first and most experienced out of all, if you watch old videos from say the 60's even if it is just on patrols you will see the British military in general was nearly 20 years ahead of time or maybe more

We may have a pathetically small military now yet they are trained upon quality. Face the facts, technology and the latest weapon isnt going to save you from the best trained soldiers in the world with a perfect shot. Foreign militaries copied but never improved but slackened our tactic.

The men were jailed for affray offences following a trial at the Old Bailey.They were cleared of attempting to hijack the 78,000-tonne Grande Tema ship following the same trial.
Popoola and ringleader McGee were jailed for 31 months and 32 months respectively for making threats to kill and affray.
In mitigation, it was claimed Popoola had acted out of "desperation" and that McGee had been fleeing West Africa to avoid being forced to join a "tribal gang".
Sunday had made an "impulsive decision" to hide aboard the ship and "wants nothing other than to go home and rebuild his life", the court was told.
