Hello, Sir! My beloved grandmother (*1929) passed away this february and we are currently cleaning up her apartment. I found a "Rotbart Mond Extra" (Redbeard Moon Extra) razor today, that might be a heirloom of my grandfathers (*1925) father since it looks like it was made in the 1920s to 1930s. Although I shaved yesterday, I immediately cleaned and tested it. It's an open comb and I am a bloody newbie (started wet-shaving with this kind of razors just three weeks ago)... but it felt great and I only got me on one critical spot on my neck. I used a Feather blade and it felt unexpected mild and incredibly smooth. I'm going to watch at least 3 to 4 of your videos a day since I just found your channel a few days ago and I like your videos enough to watch them all from the beginning :-) Pretty sure that this was not the last comment. Regards, Alex!
For me: 1. 1956 Red Tip re-plated in Rhodium 2. 1930's Long Open Comb 3 Piece Gillette re-plated in Rhodium 3. 1953 SuperSpeed TTO (I have two, re-plated in Rhodium and 24K Gold) I also really like the Fat Boy but don't use it regularly but maybe I should. I also have two re-plated in Rhodium and 24K Gold. Ken, see ya tomorrow at Big Shave West in Olde Town Pasadena! Mark
I was there from 10 till about 3. Hit up King Taco around the corner before we left. The next time you're around the LA area you have to hit King Taco. Best tacos in the city. Hope you brought home a good haul. You should have a lot of products for future videos :) I made out really well. Tons of samples and I purchased a couple of soaps at the shop as well. Great shaves ahead! Good days start with great shaves. Hope you have some great ones!
Beautiful razors . I have a Gillette fat handle tech coming . It will be my first vintage razor . I'm really looking forward to shaving with it . I hear the are mild so I will put a sharp blade in it .
I’m 55 years old and just started collecting DR razors. Can you put these razors in the Barbicide? And if so what’s the best way to clean? Saw where they need to be oiled after.
ken , your not the only one with the email problem , i missed a job interview on the 11th of march ! good old vodafone ! - lovely video , hope your feeling better - i suffer with asthma , and especially now due to pollen etc - take care buddy .
I want to get a 1969 black beauty because it's the year I was born. Your video sealed it for me. Do you recommend eBay? How much do you think I should pay? Probably have it restored ?
Great looking razors! That Red Tip looks amazing!! Check out a Bostonian. For me it is the best of my vintages. Keep the vids coming. Glad I found your channel!
If you don't mind me asking, what length is the handle on you're Black Beauty you say is the long handle version? I have one myself and the handle is four inches long but not sure if it's the long or short handled version. Good pick of razors, I would love a Fat Boy eventually lol, some day :) Adjustable with big heavy handle....My Merkur Futur but I find the Black Beauty hard to beat.
It's the long handled one I have (Black Beauty) I also have the Russian clone, it works equally as good which was a bit of a surprise, I press the spring down above the dial and slide through past the nine, I then set it to four, way more aggressive but not too much, I think Gillette said you could do this with them, when I hear people say they are a mild razor I'm not sure if they know this, I think it may travel past the nine again but for me, I don't need it, I have mentioned this before but to whom I can't remember lol. Handy to know this as one can pass on to others that pre fare aggressive razors but have a super adjustable like a Black Beauty, slim, Fat Boy or Russian clone but think they are too mild can up their game if they are too tame for them, for me this is one of the best things about them, almost a hidden secret and why I think they are called SUPER adjustable. I have read in forums people saying "super adjustable not so super adjustable, pity, sooo wrong they are. Oh,had to Sub.
The handles on the Black Beauties are aluminum. I assume that they are powder coated, as I have never seen an example where the black coloring has worn or chipped off.
hi Ken Good choice on the vintage razors. I have fatboy .. slim and black beauty. I find setting 5 no probs on them all. However am looking for gillette flare from 1964. Keep up the splendid videos.
Great recovery Ken!!! Thanks so much! That was certainly worth the wait!
I would have done it sooner if I had known...LOL
I better check all mailboxes next time 👍

Great vid Ken. Excellent choices, the only one I have no experience with is the Red Tip. The Emporium did an excellent job on the restore. Cheers.
Thanks. The Red Tip is a great razor, but a little on the aggressive side.👍

Hey Ken, it was nice seeing you in Pasadena today! I hope you had a good time and hope to run into you again, same place next year :)
Thank you very much John. It was really great meeting everyone. One fun show. How long did you stay?

+John Thomas I bought a few soaps and took in a ton of free samples too. Even got those free razor blades to try.👍
Remember Mennen Afta conditioner? I still use it. It's still great.

Just a word of warning . I got some Crabtree and Evelyn shave soap on sale . 50 % off It is garbage . Even Arko is better . Warn people off it .
Dev9172 thanks for the tip👍💈
Yes Ken. I am sorry to say something is not good . I was very disappointed in the soap .
I’m 55 years old and just started collecting DR razors. Can you put these razors in the Barbicide? And if so what’s the best way to clean? Saw where they need to be oiled after.
TheVman I don’t think the barbicide will hurt them. I put all my used razors I buy in it with no problems.
my 3 favorite? that's easy because that's about all I have at the moment. but I've only been wet shaving for about 2 months
m z productions You will add more and more. It's a fun hobby👍

livnaway EBay is great, I use PayPal it's very secure. Sometimes you can find the black beauties so good they don't need restoration👍👍💈💈
Mr. Mountains. If you are patient on eBay, you usually can find great deals👍👍💈💈
Great looking razors! That Red Tip looks amazing!! Check out a Bostonian. For me it is the best of my vintages. Keep the vids coming. Glad I found your channel!
Thank you very much Pete. I'll have to keep an eye out for a Bostonian on eBay 👍

Hey mike Rose you just finally got your very own Black Beauty now you can answer your own question! 🤨 @Kensurfs..... 😇
The handles on the Black Beauties are aluminum. I assume that they are powder coated, as I have never seen an example where the black coloring has worn or chipped off.

greg morgan sounds like you have an awesome collection. My black beauty is on of my favorites👍👍💈💈
And to think, a razor that once sold for a buck 95 is now a pricey collectable!
Ken Smurfs
Billy Judd Lol 👍👍
I don't believe that the "black beauty" you have is a true black beauty. The true black beauty has a black plastic tray.
Garrett H. They were stainless steel until the early 1970’s when Gillette went to plastic to save money. My 1976 black beauty has the black plastic
@@kensurfs My 76 (1st qtr) is stainless steel - I thought they went to plastic in 77?
Doug Warren I believe you are right
