Yeah those guys are so lucky. Great teacher, great warrior in the ring, and truly one of the actual nice humans in the sport. Feel like he's the kind of guy you would learn something pretty much any time he speaks
He is in a class where basic kicks and punches have been learned, drilled, and perfected. Now is time to practice, but should be at a level where you can control your weapons. At this level you should be able to show and threaten, but control the weapon.
When you are training at a gym, the people at the gym training with you are teammates. You aren't supposed to try and kill them, you want to help each other get better. Your ass would be hated if you did shit like that
GSP is one of the best MMA fighters of all time. I use to watch this man fight, quite a bit, when I was watching UFC religiously. I still watch it, but it really just depends on who's fighting. This man is a legend. For me, it would be an honor to learn anything from him, in the ways of fighting. TERRANCE OUT
He's 💯 right. The oblique kick is really dangerous in sparring. I've foolishly used it before and I really had to apologize to the dude I sparred with feeling so bad 🤦🏽♂️. A master of this kick is also Jon Jones.
Well, just drill the defenses constantly first like picking up the knee and recoiling it into a teep or side kick counter or using the lift into a lead superman punch counter like GSP did. Remember, you could still attack with your lead hand, leg when the threat of oblique or side kick to the knee comes in since your weight is on your back leg.
Just throw it on the highest part of the thigh or directly on the hips. If you don't train it, you can't use it or defend against it. Train smart and modify it in training. Don't fall into the whole idea of "dangerous techniques should be keep away from sparring" that has killed numerous good techniques (like Judo' Kani Basami or leg locks back when Gracies were still a bunch of pussies and banned it)

Man. How incredibly lucky to get tutelage from a guy like that, and the thing is, you know did is an incredibly nice dude too. Man. Those guys are truly blessed
He sure was fun to watch in his prime!!! GSP was P4P #1 for a long time and never got the credit he really deserved from most fans. He was one of the first to be very good in all aspects of MMA. Good stand-up, great wrestling and his ground game was crazy good, if he was on top, his ground and pound brutal!!! And he could could transition so fast and efficiently. One second you're being elbowed, and the next he's working on an arm bar or setting up a choke!!!
Been teaching this to my hundreds of young black school aged students for four decades , it's affective but more affective when circling around that same knee that's kicked !
LOL, my recommendations are on point, a bit ago I saw a video on TH-cam shorts of a guy in MMA doing this exact same kick as his opponent stepping in for an attack. His opponents knee broke.
This was the main defense I learned in wingchun classes, and we got to do it full power at knees and groin due to a handy use of a redman suit. If this is practiced hard thousands of times against three people at once it becomes a really powerful way to keep average attackers at bay on the street. It gave me time to process what to do, on a few occasions. If you notice his lead hand reaching out, that is the second most logical step. A fast straight eye jab. After doing a hard knee/groin and an eye jab you can then start to apply a punch or kick or throw .
Man! I remember the days GSP had a neck! Back in those days it was hard to see any martial arts matches on TV. I was skipping school one afternoon and there was some fight on. Was odd time of the day, and was odd to see fighting. GSP was still in university. Think they said he was fighting part time between school. As soon as I saw him I said that guy's gonna be something one day. It was quite evident, even then, that he had talent above the rest.
"Longest weapon against nearest target" Bruce Lee, another thing GSP uses that Bruce talked about is fighting powerside forward. GSP is left handed and said that was his "secret weapon"
I think he may be the GOAT. Never used PED’s, remarkable record. Only losses he ever had, he avenged. Both were mental issues rather than physical skill. And he fought MONSTERS. I think he’s the best.

Don't want to break someone's Knee to win a fight. They need to be able to fight again and make Money. Gotta Win on points, submission or KO.
