    If you lift a wrangler 6in you still have 9in of clearance because of solid axles. Larger tires are the only way to gain clearance.

  • @robertpierce1981

    If you add 6 inches of lift to a wrangler you still have the same ground clearance because you’re not changing the distance from the axle to the ground

      Suave House yeah the v8 without the turbos would’ve been better. I own a naturally aspirated Gwagon. (2005) It’s more than enough to lug around this box. Getting 15mpg average.
      With that being said. Simplicity truly is the best. Amazing vehicle. More amazing without the turbos.

    You get what you pay for... I often wondered why- one would buy a vehicle from Mercedes, when there are ALOT of competitors.-THAT thought quickly leaves your mind, after you have owned one.-- Just search on autotrader for ANYTHING "G" class- and be prepared to be shell shocked on the price. 15year old g wagon, that cost more than a Brand New Jeep..-- It shows the long term capability of the G- Wagon. THEN Drive one..--YEP you see the value.

    "Ground clearance" is not the be all and end all to offroading. Articulation, in most cases will be more useful than a base criteria of ground clearance. And that is because ground clearance is measured at the lowest point of the vehicle (minus the tire touching the ground). So it can be deceptive to say the least. The axel pumpkins are usually that point. And you don't get more clearance by adding "lift", you get it by putting bigger tires on. The lift allows for those tires to work with the given wheel wells, but it does not give you more clearance.
    This brings us back to articulation VS base ground clearance. If you are going to simply drive over an object and not take anything into account, yes base ground clearance is what you need... but in reality, that seldom is the issue. That is because the way we drive, our pumpkins tend to rise over objects at the same time as our wheels do, so... not an issue. Only if you straddle an object with your wheels does it become an issue. And again, that is normally not how we drive "offroad".
    With that in mind, it shows why we drive vehicles like this one (and the H1) differently than we do other offroad vehicles. Their base ground clearance is not really a benefit in most situations, and their lack of articulation for the wheels CAN be. I am not saying this makes them "bad", but there is a difference and their higher ground clearance does not give the advantages that these videos like to insinuate they do. And a lack of articulation can actually cause more instability, and thus a safety issue when offroading..... more so with a taller center of gravity.
    Again, that is not saying that these are "bad" vehicles or bad things. They are just DIFFERENT. And you have to adjust your driving style and lines accordingly. It just gets really annoying when "ground clearance" is tossed out there as some show of "greatness" when not taking into account all other factors that create a truly great offroad vehicle. And then ignoring what TYPE of offroading is going to be done. Are you going to do casual trail riding, overland expeditions, rock crawling, muddy vs dry vs sand, and on and on. And that is why you see so many different setups and they are NOT all based on "ground clearance", let alone have that being the first consideration.
    I understand these videos are meant to HYPE the vehicles, and that is fine, but far too often it is done in a way that is inaccurate to the point of being past misleading into the realm of a lie by virtue of misleading. And one would think you folks would care about your credibility more than to do this.
    Just food for thought....

    1:00 adding a 6" lift nets exactly no additional ground clearance. It's onlywith larger tires or axle mods that ground clearance is gained.

    • @Offshore1977
      @Offshore1977 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Do R/C! True with solid axles like a Jeep, tires give you the clearance under the diff. With independent suspension, you do get the height with a lift alone.

    • @Creating_Space
      @Creating_Space 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      if 9" of ground clearance is with 31s, you'd only have 13.5" with 40s. Definitely not getting anywhere near 18" with a wrangler.

    • @elijahbrooks8589
      @elijahbrooks8589 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LSanti Sorry but lifting the suspension even with ifs ground clearance doesn't change. The lowest point of your frame remains relatively low, lower control arm is not moved until talked tires are added.

    • @Offshore1977
      @Offshore1977 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Elijah Brooks I've installed multiple suspension lifts both on solid and independent axled vehicles. I agree the lower A-arm may not rise but the frame and most everything attached to the frame will go up. Only difference is the axle on a solid axled vehicle will not rise, but everything else will.

    • @fastdude2002
      @fastdude2002 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What a couple of idiots complaining because Mercedes is selling a off road vehicle to people who will never go off road. Do you know how many Corvette owners have never been to a race track? Or for that matter people buying Porsche's, ferrari's, lamborghini's, Maclaren's, Who will do nothing with them but go to Starbucks??? Hell do you know how many people by wranglers and don't go off road? Do you really think that every Ford F150 owner works in construction or has horses to tow any place? Vehicle purchase has very little to do with intended use, People buy vehicles that suit their personality that they can afford, Manufacturers build the vehicles that represent the personalities of their buyers period end of story.

      you got something wrong. they did not complain. They had fun with this g wagen. Look up videos about the real idiot, posting reviews about the g wagen, than you know what aim talking. Many idiots comparing the g wagen design with new "design cars". Those idiots know nothing about the g wagen.

    If you have a stock jeep with 9 inches of ground clearance and you lift it 6 inches you get 9 inches of ground clearance 6 inches more articulation though bigger tyres is the only way to give ground clearance even with 35inch tyres you’ll only get 13 inches of clearance
