    thankyou so much for your very informative video. I live in the UK and was diagnosed with breast cancer sept 2023, I also had my heart attack in Jan 2023, so I have been very busy changing my lifestyle before cancer with diet and exercise. The cancer diagnosis was a shock but all of your videos have made me feel informed even though we have the NHS and they do things slightly differently. So thankyou again.

      @shantazellner852 hi, I have just recently seen my oncologist and I won't be getting chemo - which is such a huge relief, but I will get radiation therapy as well as endocrine therapy.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for coming here to share your experience. The odds of survival are quite good. One option you may hear about is a short period of ovarian suppression, for example, 2 to 3 years. This treatment has been used to decrease the risk of recurrence without chemotherapy or endocrine therapy. Wishing you all the best.

    Can you please help me understand how tamoxifen is considered protective in decreasing the risk of heart disease, if it also increases the risk of a stroke? Also, my father had a-fib and a stroke later in life (early 80s); so far, I have no heart issues, but does this family history put me at a greater risk of developing heart-related issues when I start aromatase inhibitors in a few years, after tamoxifen? Thank you.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tamoxifen was originally thought to increase the risk of stroke, but other studies have shown no substantial increase in the risk. Recall that tamoxifen can increase the risk of blood clots, and some strokes are caused by blood clots. In general, the lives saved through the use of tamoxifen far outweigh the risk of stroke.
      Please note that tamoxifen is not an aromatase inhibitor. The aromatase inhibitors work in a different way and include letrozole, anastrozole, and exemestane. There is no increase in the risk of stroke with the aromatase inhibitors.

    Cancer drugs are very effective for treatment of the disease but the side effects are terrible. I’m on Letrozole and so far, so good but I know it’s coming. Thank you Doctor.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're absolutely right that cancer drugs can be very effective, and they can also come with challenging side effects. It's important to work closely with your healthcare team to manage and mitigate these side effects as much as possible. Thank you for watching!

    I was supposed to receive Docetaxel, (Oncotype was a 38) but I had a reaction to it, so my oncologist said I'd need an echocardiogram before being put on Doxorubicin. My echo came back normal, and I just received my 3rd out of 4 Doxo treatments. I'm also supposed to go on an AI after radiation. I already have high cholesterol and high BP (on meds). I'm post menopausal. This scares the crap out of me, and I almost chose to not receive chemo due to this. I refuse to believe I'll be the 1 in 20/100, but this is all so scary. Just sharing. 🙂 Thank you for this video (although I almost didn't click on it, lol).

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching and sharing your concerns. Your medical team can help estimate your risk of cardiac problems on the basis of the cholesterol level. That may be helpful information for you. Wishing you the best.

    Can Letrozol cause arthritis in the shoulders, because i had my mastectomy 2023 Augustst 12. I ddnt had chemo and still awaiting radiation but i have severe pain in both my shoulders and the doctor told me it could be arthritis. Sometimes i cant even lift my arms and i dont know how to sleep at night

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If the pain in the shoulders started within 3 months of starting letrozole, it is indeed likely that they are related to the letrozole. Joint pains are extremely common with aromatase inhibitors. Check out our videos about aromatase inhibitors: th-cam.com/video/LuI1mCJU2_U/w-d-xo.html and about aromatase inhibitor side effects: th-cam.com/video/ZkNwni7GYDU/w-d-xo.html.

    Greetings,
    Can you please explain influence of Tamoxifen on liver?
    My mother takes Tamoxifen for 7 years now, and from the first year she had a small increase of triglycerides and on ultrasound fatty liver (alt, etc are always good). Doctor is never suprised with that results and he always recommend to continue with therapy. But on the other side I'm really scared for her liver 😅
    Is there any suplements that can be taken?
    Thank you very much!

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great questions. Some people on tamoxifen do get a fatty liver. It is difficult to tell if it's always from the tamoxifen since so many other things can cause a fatty liver. There are no supplements that will reduce fatty liver. It appears that even a little weight loss can help reduce fatty liver. Of course, this is neither easy not right for everyone.

      Thank you very much for answering me@@yerbba!
      Does this mean that it is safe for the liver to continue with the Tamoxifen, until the ALT and AST are not raised more than normal ranges?

    Hi doctor , my mother diagnosed breast cancer last September. Now she completed 4 th round chemo . Her Bp raised to 165 so doctors stopped her chemo therapy. Now , she is taking bp medication for past one week Bp around 130/ 90 . How long it will take to start chemo ?

      Thanks for coming here to ask your question. Once the blood pressure is controlled, chemotherapy is likely to be restarted.

    I’ve had heart palpitations after completing taxotere and cytoxan. I also had 2 pulmonary embolism, but I think that’s from the port. I was told the taxotere could cause leukemia, but so far so good. A very rare side effects. I get my ticker checked every 6 months

    I don’t know why oncologists don’t bother to give you this information. It should be mandatory. Malpractice comes to mind.

      Susan, it's my opinion that their reluctant to be honest and forthcoming with all the side effects and permanent damage done. With all the different chemicals and radiation. They put us through. In order to rid or slow down the spread of cancer. It could be. Their trying to avoid people over reacting or refusing treatment out of fear. In truth some people can breeze through treatments suffering very few effects. While some of us get nailed with everyone of them. I watch these video's. I just want to cry. Or even throw up. As we're given the slow drip of such awful possibilities. Delivered in a soft lyrical voice. & a smile. As if that somehow makes this information any easier to take. There is an endless list of these video's. It doesn't get any easier watching them either. In truth Susan even as one who is going through this. I to would be reluctant to share the whole truth. As it's way to terrifying😢 & I wouldn't want the responsibility that I scared someone out of getting the treatment they need.

      Great point. In fact, chemotherapy consent forms do include this information. What we have found, however, is that when people sign those forms and get extensive teaching, they begin to "zone out," overwhelmed by the volume of information they receive. There have been studies done recording consent conversations followed by an assessment of patient's retention and comprehension, and patients retain less than 10% of what they are told. This is not because they are not smart! Rather, it's just too much. Our hope is that our videos can help people learn about specific topics at their own pace in the privacy of their own space. Thanks for taking the time to write.

    Hello. I`ve had a lot of palpitations since I started taking Tamoxifen. My oncologist says it`s not a common sideeffect of Tamoxifen or radiation. Is it true? Thank you

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Palpitations have been reported with people on tamoxifen. In reviewing patient experiences of palpitations, these seem to improve with non-medical interventions such as meditation. Radiation therapy for people with breast cancer is highly unlikely to cause palpitations.
