And the magic of teental. The superb fusion of melody (notes) and rhythm, and intricate string work keeping pace with the rapid rhythm, makes Hindustani Classical stringed music (no regional bias, here, though) one of the greatest wonders of the world. The sitar and the sarod especially, can explore the full tonal range and string intricacy that this school of music offers. The "music of the spheres" as Shakespeare says, about the greatest melodies.
Vilayat Khan is God. The music that came out of Vilayat Khan's sitar as I heard him in the early years of my life, didn't seem to belong to this world. The sound of his sitar strings, the melody created through them, the fast taans, truly transformed the space of the audience and stage into a magical sphere, which was removed from the regular world, through the transformative potential of its music. Hard to beat Vilayat Khan.
Eduardo Pires Riter Thank You. Happy to learn that there are other music lovers in the world, who respond to his music so deeply. Have you heard Budhaditya Mukherjee, by any chance? He too belongs to the Imdadkhani gharana, and is very, very good. Do you listen to Hindustani Classical music, often. And Raag Puriya is divine too.
Sreemati Mukherjee I AM a student of sitar, and have greater interest in the Imdadkhani Gharana. Yes, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee is great exponent, and I love his playing! But I also enjoy all forms of ICM, specially Dhrupad. I live in Brazil, and have travelled to Benares to start learning sitar. Hope to be back soon, as in Brazil there are no teachers for apropriate training, what to say about guru-shishiya?! Thank you for the interest and this amazing recording. Pranam
